Running In Rb26 After Blowing In Headgasket
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks guys - i guess i can save some $$$ by not having to buy run in oil then...... P.s: this will be my 1st oil change for the gtr, does it hold the same amount of oil as the 25t's?, i use to fill around 4.5l on my old r33 gtst.... thanks -
Running In Rb26 After Blowing In Headgasket
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks for the heads up, so i don't need to use any special thin running in oil when only a headgasket was replaced???thats what i thought i'd have to do....if not ive got some really good oil/filter that i can use straight away:) -
Running In Rb26 After Blowing In Headgasket
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
So i can drive the car as per usual without needing to run it in at all? I hear mixed stories thats all..... cheers -
Hey guys, i just replaced the headgasket in my 26, done a clean/flowtest on injectors, new waterpump timing belt and bearings all replaced, new sparks, and all gaskets on head have been replaced.... Now i need to know whats the best way to run it it, and what oils to use and for how long a duration before using the good stuff? Also is it a good idea to re-torque the head after around 1000kms to make sure they havent gone out of wack slightly? Thanks in advice

Hey guys, im got myself some ngk bcpr6eix-11 spark plugs for my gtr, and was wondering if i can pre-gap them myself at .8mm, alot of ppl advise not to do this on the iridiums as they can fail if you gap them wrong or something?, will i be okay on a stock gtr keeping the plugs gapped at 1.1 anyhow? thanks

Flow Testing Injectors With The Injectors Out?

Thanks, by the way the injectors are a46-00, are these for an r33gtr as thats what car i have... -
Flow Testing Injectors With The Injectors Out?
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks, i may hold off on injectors right now, but they will never be able to work out injector duty cycles until the car is running right? how much should something like this roughly cost?p.s would it be dangerous to fit 555cc injector to a gtr without a ecu + tune? thanks -
Hey guys, just wondering if i can get my gtr injectors flow tested while the plenum is off and the injectors are easy to get at......i have an r33 gtr and the injectors are yellow top (gtr ones 444cc?) Does the car need to be running for the injectors to be tested?, and how much does this sort of thing cost normally? Thanks. P.s: I have uprated turbos on the gtr, and stock ecu, is it at all worthwhile upgrading the injectors while easily accessible anywyas?, my aim is around 300-330awkw max....

Head Has Been Machined Down Twice Already...what Thickness Gasket
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
i can find out for you.......thanks, is there such a thing as over machining the head? is there a point where its not safe to machine the head anymore?......like a mark on the head were past that point it shouldnt be done sort of thing? -
Hey guys, my head has just been machined down again (2nd time), and i was initially going to go 1.2mm thick headgasket, but now im thinking of going 1.5mm!, as its had previous machine work done to it already, even though the machine work that had taken place recent was only the most tiny minimal amount.... The previous rebuilder had put a standard thickness gtr headgasket on, and i was wanting something more thick to be on the safe side....besides are the factory gaskets any good compared to say the tome metal ones, ie if we were comapring same thickness factory, to same thickness aftermarket metal What is the stock thickness of the gtr gasket? is it 0.9mm? thanks.

Is this the same for when the rb26turbos get uprated, a oil restrictor should be put in its place?, if so where should i be looking, as the head is off, and the turbos are easily accessible.

Metal Headgasket Without Arp Stud Kit?
nsta replied to GreeceS13's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Most people advise to replace headstuds with arp ones when you doing the head, thats what im doing:), i got my headstuds for a good price aswell, well worth the insurance:) -
Hey guys, ive got a fairly stock r33 gtr rb26 engine, and have found a really good price on some r34 gtr n1's....and wanted to replace the ceramics with these as i know the ceramics can cause alot of pain to the engine if they let go!!! Do these n1 turbos need any modifications to fit to the standard manifold/dumps etc....or is it direct bolt up? Will i be okay running these turbos if my rb26 is not mofidfied highly? mods: acl forged piston (.5mm oversize) 1.2mm thick headgasket tomei arp headstuds 3" exhaust ARC panel filters no other mods, and factory ecu...would this be a wise idea, i just dont want to ruin my rebuilt motor by keeping the ceramics. thanks
-
Hey guys, as above i need a 1.2mm 87mm bore headgasket kit cobo (tomei), and some arp headstuds for an rb26dett (bcnr33), where could i look to get these, and shipped to new zealand, as i need them asap to fit my head back:) thanks. > Tomei Headgasket Combo Kits, And Arp Headstuds, Need these asap - where can i buy from? please pm or reply to post:)

how easy is it to fit cam gears to a stock 26? im doing my timing belt at the same time if i go ahead with it. thanks,
-
Hey guys, im going to be doing my timing belt while the engine is out, and was wondering if i would benfit from adj cam gears for inlet and exhaust for my rb26 engine?.....what gains are to be made, and will i get better response?, ive got hiflowed turbos, exhaust and panel filter mods...no ecu. Do adj cam gears make fitting a timing belt any easier, or at least the same?, is there much to the installation?, since they arent very expensive i was thinking of purchasing so i dont have to later on down the line.

Squish/quench Boring?.....trying To Understand It All
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
MORE PICS!!! Hey guys, couple more pics have been added to further show headgasket damage, and piston clearence at the end of its stroke.... Picture one, shows highlighted in blue, the area of the gasket which got damaged, that little gasket shape thing i highlighted was not even part of the headgasket when i pulled open the head, and i just attached to show you which area it was in.....basically this i feel was most likely the cause of having the exhaust side of the squish area on no.6 bore on the head to have been badly damaged while the rest looked ok....due to this little gasket highlighted in blue leaking and causing amounts of fluid into the squish zone causing it to deteriorate on no6 on the head....does this make sense? second picture shows the the protusion of the piston to block, with the 0.9mm stock headgasket, and .5mm oversize pistons.....should i be worried, or does this look all ok in terms of top of piston to head clearance.... Should the squish zone really need to be bored down a little?, or could i just get it repaired, and skim the head down and leave it at that?, as im going to be getting a thicker 1.2mm headgasket now.... -
Squish/quench Boring?.....trying To Understand It All
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hey guys, one other thing id like to note when i pulled apart the head........whoever rebuilt the engine not long ago, didnt replace the headstuds, how i know? 1) they are still factory ones.....also note they were over-torqued! 2) in the receipts for the rebuild, it had no indication of cost for new headstuds.... i think this may have well been a big contributer to my gasket problem!
