The police can't persue your vehicle if you're going over 180km/hr right?
-
This thread reminds me of the bashing the blokes over at Performance forums gave my Silvia.. I was saying I didnt think FWD cars where sports cars. All the losers with their FWD Hondas piped up and went on about how shit Silvias are. The internets such a wonderful reminder of how many dead shits there are in this world

Anyone claiming their 80's mazda shit box can beat a GTR in ANY form get's top laughs from me. :bahaha:
-
I almost broke a major organ laughing at this.. so true.
-
no, junkies don't have any respect for anybody.. they make up most of the people who break into cars. all junkies must die.

Mighty fine. How much does an RB26DETT conversion cost ?

Road Angel is nothing but a blackspot detector from my understanding. SydneyKid: Thanks very much for the tip. I'll definately try using that one and let you know how I go. I've -NEVER- seen a Queensland cop use a tripod.

I would imagine Skylines are one of the most lusted-after car in Australia. I remember seeing on the Channel 10 news one night, these guys broke into this asian man's apartment and demanded he hand over the key's to his GTR at knife point. Damn!

Hey Awill.. fair enough. Doesnt particularly bother me either way, but I'm curious why the Nismo site, and various others I've seen have seperated the power of the engines between the silvia, 180sx and pulsar gtir?
-
Hey Awill, This is actually a common misconception that most 180SX owners carry with them. Most Silvia K's owners who have done their homework keep this secret well hidden so the 180sx crowd keep scratching their head and wondering why our cars are just that small amount faster. I'll point you all over to the Nismo site which backs up my statement: http://sr20det.nismo.org/nissanengines.htm "Power: 205hp @ 6000rpm (180SX), 220hp @ 6000rpm (Silvia)" There's also a few other sites out there that say this as well. I have ABSOLUTELY no idea why the engine performs better, as the car's are pretty much identical. Maybe it's a slightly different engine configuration due to the popup head lights on the 180? who the hell really knows. I also understand that the 180SX weighs more due to the heavy coupe rear windscreen. When I first bought my car and it was stock as a rock.. it even had the rattling exhaust tin can fresh from the compliance department complete with "exhaust socks". I raced a guy in a 180SX with an sr20det, aftermarket exhaust system running 10psi.. I thought I was toast! He started with a much more agressive and successful launch but I caught up with him and made it past him before we both reached about 80-90 and decided we'd had enough.

Please give advice, i wanted to buy a GT-t R34...
pentae replied to [Tommy_R34]'s topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Take it to an a mechanic who mainly does performance cars and imports. Tell him you are interested in buying an r34 and your intentions are to take the vehicle to him for servicing/performance mods.. and could he kindly check that it doesnt have anything wrong with it. He may do the service for close to nothing to bag you as a future customer. -
I think a better comparison would be a stock s13 sr20det (silvia shape.. 20kw more power than the 180sx) with an r32 gtst. Silvia does the 0-400 1.3 seconds faster in stock form. I drove an r34 GTST and it still felt slow compared to mine. All I have on my s13 Silvia K's is a 3" turbo to tip exhaust system.. that's it. Soon to be added: - Air Pod - Oversized FMIC - Apexi Super AVC-R Boost Controller/Management System Overall Mod Cost: 3.3k Chapman & Chapman, a highly respected performance shop in Brisbane says I should expect high 12's after these modifications. How much money do you have to spend on a GTST to get it into the 12s? Disclaimer: By NO MEANS am I coming in here on the SKYLINE discussion forum to bag the shit out of skylines.. I LOVE skylines. They are amazing machines.. the GTR keeps me up at night. All I am talking about is a comparison. At the end of the day the Skyline will still turn more heads, impress more girls and be a more practical point-to-point car. And at the end of the day, Skyline drivers love their cars just as much as I love mine. But what I am saying is.. for boy-racer performance for dollars.. I am fairly confident the Sr20det Silvia is a better choice.

Hey guys.. lot of good replies there. thanks A few observations.. When i'm driving along the freeway/street and see a cop car way ahead in the distance... and i'm speeding? I do a quick mirror check and slam the brakes. I think everyone else does as well. So I don't think they'll "know" based on that. The radar mount point I was talking about was in the front of my body kit, mounted in my side air intake pocket.. staring out, maybe behind some perspex to protect it from road debris. This is also very interesting. SydneyKid, have you ever been pulled over for speeding by a cop doing this and said "Sorry Officer, me and my passanger both witnessed you holding the speed gun in your hand and not on a tripod. I was doing the limit so therefore you're reading is inaccurate." ?

Price of 1989 r32 GTR privately imported?
pentae replied to pentae's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I don't intend on buying the car for at least another year.. and no I don't necessarily want to pay bottom dollar.. I just don't want to pay 30-35 grand which is what they are asking for r32gtr's at the moment. I don't intend on buying one until the cars start coming in. What i'm hoping that will do is drive down the price of the later model GTR's (the r32 stopped in 93 or 94) to around the 22-25 grand mark so I can buy it. And yes, I'll probably have 7 grand set aside for tidying it up and bolting on some good quality modifications. I imagine these cars will also bring down the price of the r33's and the r34's will follow. by the end of 2004 it would be VERY sweet to be able to pick up an R34 GTR for around 50 grand. -
I did a search for ANWERS in australia.. nothing came up except a bunch of typo's for ANSWERS. doing a search for answers is an obvious waste of time Cops can trace IP's from forums, yeah. But fortunately for me the only people who can access my IP's are the moderators. Because I have not done anything illegal I don't think discussion is cause for concern either.. Loss of car. That is harsh.

darkstar you totally missed the point of the thread. please read it again including my follow up reply. -
Hey Guys.. I am dead keen on purchasing a speed radar detector and jamming device for my car. As I understand the higher end models are pretty good at detecting and jamming both radar and laser. It's my understanding in QLD that these devices in cars are illegal, right? I was considering putting a stealth setup in my car that was wired to my stereo system.. and the detector mounted inside the lower area of the engine bay near where the air scoop in my lower guard. If it blipped through my stereo speakers.. if a cop pulls me over i turn off my stereo. Is there a more cost effective way than this? What have you guys heard of that works well... Is it worth just driving around with it mounted on your windscreen with suction caps, and if you get pulled over quickly chuck it under the seat? What are the penalties for being caught?

pentae replied to pentae's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
15k sounds unbelievable. I am hoping that will knock around the price of later model GTR's (like 91-94) so I can scoop up a 1994 GTR with under 100,000 km's for around 25 grand. -
Gerby you're right, sorry my mistake. But I think you understood my point? I agree with you completely.. I don't think theres anything wrong with the sr20det.. if I had an sr20de (non turbo) i would drop in an rb20
-
That does simply not make sense to me.. why two cars with the same engine.. the heavier car has more top end power? I get that a lot about my Sr20det powered silvia.. "Oh six cylinder skyline will beat you over 100km/hr" I have raced SEVERAL r33 gtst's all the way up to 180km/hr, neither of us could pull away. And if anyone was slightly gaining it was my car. Sorry croat but this is first hand experience. It's a myth that originated with the 6 and 8 cyl commodore people imo.
-
Not to mention the r33 can actually fit more than 2 passangers and has a hell of a lot more road respect than my s13.
-
But it sounds like you go through a few clutches
-
Hmmm.. I don't think the cop did anything wrong. In fact I would have driven away thinking "What a good cop".. You see.. in the USA they are not allowed to breathlise you unless they have reason to suspect your drunk. Hence the 'walk the line please sir' test. RBT's in our country employ the guilty until proven innocent concept which is total bullsh*t!!! That cop was a good guy.. he believed you.

I drive an s13 with an SR20DET.. at least until I get enough money together for my GTR. I have very basic mods.. 3" straight through (turbo to tip) and modified r33 gtst's have a tough time keeping up.. even on the M1 all the way to the 180km/hr speed limiter. the 2 litre silvia K's packs a lot of punch for the $$. and with some tasteful styling like some good looking 17's and removing the rear wing, they are a very good looking car.
