  1. yes definatly one of your better posts Marc. While i have your attention, do bike speedos work in cars?
  2. awesome , so im not going crazy what I would really like to know is would you recomend the fuchs supersyn cause I can get a great price on it. Was goin to get 5_30 as per standard but longevity is a bigger concern to me than anything else so maybe the 5_40 would be better and I could buy in bulk and run it in all 3 cars cheers
  3. exactly, its almost instinctive. But even if the oil is doing a perfectly good job it can noticably different. When i went from 5.30 to 10.40 in the honda even the wife felt the difference, there is nothing wrong its a perfectly good oil it just feels a little sluggish.j Now this may appear to some to have no real world affect to the performance of a vehicle . Then againI was talking to a guy at track day a while back who said he had gained close to 30hp from an oil change, now thats a difference I'd imagine you would FEEL
  4. Well I have nothing to offer you then Get back to your lab Rolls. G'night
  5. yes i know and they nearly always recomend something between 0 and 40, i mean what manufacturer recomends a 60 oil there is just no need for a street car.. Now maybe this edge stuff has gained a reputation from a crowd that thinks burnouts are the eppitimy of performance, but I dont see any car manufacturers recomending it for dailys.. i know what your really saying is I have no solid facts to base my theories on and you are right. But I do notice or FEEL differences in oils and these feelings I believe can be just as important as any factual evidence. When you get your car tuned do you just trust what the dyno says to determine the cars performance or do you go and drive it and judge performance by the way it feels to drive. id say its a combination of both Or , when the golden gate bridge fell down, do you think a bunch of engineers sat around trying to decide if it was going to fall down, while some guy stood on the bridge and said "holy f**k this thing feels like its going to fall down" he didnt need a group of engineers to tell him that he could feel it!
  6. Oh, what about the half that dont fall down? What i was trying to say was he noticed a difference in idle and it was easier to start, I was just trying to find out which one she thought was the better one cause he didnt say, all he sad was he tried 2 oils and they behaved differently but didnt state which was which
  7. so what your saying is the feeling under your foot is irrelevant? And any difference you FEEL is imaginery dont you feel your engine rolls, dont you just start it and feeel it vibrate and listen to it purr and take it all in so much that when the slightest little thing is out of place you know it... go on rolls, go out and be at one with your machine absorb its presence and sense its being.. Then change the oil...lol
  8. Im sorry so which oil PERFORMED better. Which one made the car FEEL nicer to drive my moneys on the mobil..
  9. so which feels better??
  10. yeah for diesel id say lean towards the newer gen utes not so much 4wd as maintenance can be costly..but the new gen utes arent exactly cheap yet so a Falcon is probably ideal.. As for saying a 4wd will be too hard to park.. maybe it would be easier if you take your blouse off..
  11. you can, but its not that great
  12. haha. Mine had a HJ Monaro with a well worked 308 but 3.08s in the rear was good for 14sec. But fully loaded with a trailer would sit on 160km happy to do 200 fully loaded with no trailer
  13. pretty sure newer monaros are 4.11 or 3.9
  14. exactly that.. Older muscle cars always had lower gear like 3.08 thy would put 4.11s in for drag racing. These days 4.11s are pretty standard and they have better gearbox gearing so its not reving so hard on the freeway
  15. both were running factory oil. In the 2009 mazda diesel with 40000km the change was instant. went from full syn 5.30 mazda oil to penrite semisyn 5.30 extra 10 so effectivly 40. The honda 2004 with 150000km now was also 5.30 mineral, i put motul 4100 in that with 7500kms on the oil . It has been to adelaide 4 times, i would fill up in deer park just out of melbourne and roll into adelaide on empty. .This time i filled up in bacchus marsh about 50 to 80kms further out, wil have to double check that figure but the main thing to note is the empty light came on around the same time. I will try get some exact figures later on that though. its hard to tell cause the missu always uses different fuel too like e10 i use bp ult my main point is really I think a full synthetic 40 will serve a road carin good condition better than a 60. My other ute didnt need a 60 till it got up over 300,000kms and it copped a flogging, but i think you have to be flogging it pretty hard to justify a 60.
  16. will a car acheive higher top end speeds with power alone or does gearing need to be changed to go faster.. For instance if a GTST tops out around 240 how much faster would it go with same gearing but double power..
  17. this is my experience, my work ute was getting on average 700km per 55l on stamdard 5,30 oil I changed to a penrite 5,40 cause it was a good price and all of a sudden im averaging 650km per 55lt.. I use a tank every 2 days or so and have it all logged.. As for the honda well im not entirely sure, but it used to get melb to adelaide on a tank of fuel, with a 40 weight it didnt quite make it there or back and i was driving alot nicer than usual too..explain that...lol. im not ...saying it it will make 50ks difference on the skyline, but it can make a difference, it may not be noticable enough to matter though but your car definately will move more freely with a lighter oil, just make sure you get one good enough to protect for your driving style.. im not knocking castrol edge, ive never tried it, i guess it all really depends on cars condition.
  18. theres a gasket too I dare say whoever did the timing belt on mine ditched the gasket and replaced it with goo then..lol
  19. way to kill my sale Paul anyway the one I have is specially made, it sounds so awesome and the increase in powah is definately noticable I mean at least 10kw
  20. what about Mobil.1 comes in a 10..50 (think penrite syn might too) mgiht give you slightly better fuel economy too. i went from a 30 to 40 in my work car and lost 50km a tank same with the missus car. Somethin to think about if fuel economy cocerns you. i think if your motor is in good condition a 40 would be fine jsut get a full synthetic of a good brand and it should handle a flogging ok should you decide to flog it a bit
  21. i got one somewhere bolts straight up, he can have it for 100$ I dont need it since I changed my turbo setup
  22. wow that bad huh , cant upgrade to an OP6. So you just have to pull it out and replace housing and manifold or just gaskets? You must be doin quite a few trackdays then, im pushing more power through the same housing but it doesnt get flogged anywhere near as hard as yours, well not consistently anyway be interesting to see how it lasts I guess my ebay gasket will no doubt give up before anything else , at least I hope it does Trent fixed her up for me last week too,, come round and have a drive if you like sometime its running great. 430nm at 3500rpm See what ya think
  23. eewww.!! What if you put the car in reverse apply a little brake to lock the fronts and drop the clutch?
  24. wow screws, i would have used cable ties. You must be a profesional
