New Garrett Gtx2860R / 2863R / 2867R

This is a video demonstrating the noise of the GTX wheels, never mind the the short shifting I was actually nursing some coil packs that were starting to break down and had turned the boost down a bit too as a result, but you can really hear that shrieking at mid throttle noise and it was addicting as , I loved it. The sad thing was I finally got the car running at 648hp with stability in the end but never got a competitive lap at this level as things like coil packs and a blown clutch destroyed two of my days before I could really dial myself in at the power level for some Lap times. I still managed to kill the lap time record with 550hp, so with a 100hp more would have been nice, but I couldn't keep going back trying in the end as I was already living in Perth and flying back to my car in Brisbane all the time to do it all. I think the new owner will enjoy exploring it's huge potential still yet to be proven in lap times. Guys if you have a stroker RB26 the GTX 2863 conversion was worth it every day of the week. I also must add that I always ran E85 full time even on the street. -

Yeah 4th gear Piggaz. The tyres were 295/30/18's. Being a RP 2.8L it didn't need to rev all that much and I never drove it out of the adequate power band, shifting at 7500-8000 was always heaps, even shifting at 7000 was enough. It had stock Diff ratios as always was one for some big 5th to 6th gear action at certain cough cough, race tracks. The torque improvement I don't remember as I don't know what I started with, but the final figure was 802 ft ibs of Torque, and man did it feel like it. Gee I still get goosebumps from thinking about it, really wish I didn't have to sell her. -

Yes but the mid range is a huge improvement over -5's, the GTX 63's in the -5 housing is a huge improvement over stock -5's. -

Here you go Piggaz, looks a bit different to when Aaron owned it, but tried not to bling things up too much https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/t31.0-8/903465_10151741799428907_1720408699_o.jpg https://scontent-a-lax.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/t31.0-8/1397283_10151741797813907_394527824_o.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/t31.0-8/1102679_10151615560593907_1474084632_o.jpg -

Here we go, I found one of the graphs on my phone, this is not the max power figure and final tune, but very close to what it was when finished. It was only a bit more in the top end that really changed. It is a before and after graph. It ended up exactly 100hp more at 648hpatw when it was cranked up to 33psi, but that was the limit of the turbos well and truly. The actual figure we ended up getting out of the -5's was actually was 580hpatw but was really straining them real bad and the mid range was still 90hp less regardless, so the 90hp mid range increase was a real world change that was the biggest difference out of the GTX 63 upgrade and on track coming out of corners in 3rd, holy moly oversteer even with full torque split turned up 295's all round in a Semi 03G Dunlop This is the real world differences that were seen being nice and conservative. 90hp increase mid range, 68hp top end increase. 100rpm better response. It may not seem like much, but on track it was a totally different car to drive, especially on the limit, It started to feel like a real hardcore time attack weapon. I won the fastest GTR lap record times in QLD by almost a second and I'm sure if it went back to Victoria a lot of people should be very worried including modified R35 owners, they are nowhere near safe from this 34. Anyway it is now sold to a nice young fellow in Sydney and he will be doing the same with the car as I was and Aaron P. I think he will need a bit of time to get used to it though for competitive lap times, but he will be up there soon I'm sure, a very sensible person who will edge it up bit by bit. I hope this helps some of you out. NextUp Performance in QLD were the ones looking after my car since RacePace. -

My car was Aaron P's old car from Victoria which Racepace originally built, the 2.8L still but now with full E85 setup, Platinum Pro ECU 272 deg 10.1 cams, which suit the GTX 2863's pretty well. -

Somewhere mate, I have just sold the car a few weeks ago, I'll dig around for it, but just moved from Brissy to Perth, so I have crap everywhere.......lol. The difference was awesome on my car, and the sound of the turbo howl at mid throttle sounded amazing, little bit like a supercharger. -

Just put the GTX 2863 cores into -5's with the machined front housing, save yourself a whole lot of stuffing around. I made 90hp in the mid range with mine and 50rpm quicker response. They ran all the way up to 33psi with 478kwatw, bloody awesome mod IMO and my car was a crazy animal at the track, they totally transformed my car IMO. -

With my -5s converted into GTX 2863's it has really made a big difference to mine, and the lag Sean is talking of is a bit of a mystery, because I actually decreased lag and found a little bit more low down, and heaps from mid range to the top. Even with the cams on my -5s I found my cams to be a bit big 272/9.7 but now with the GTX turbos, the cams really seem to be more efficient, especially the mid range. I was going to take my cams back to a 260 but I don't think I need to as much now, the power delivery from these GTX's is fantastic IMO. Hey Sean, maybe it's worth giving your 2860's another go, and get it tuned at NextUp, John really got the benefits out of mine quite nicely. And considering you have the same 2.8 as me, it doesn't make sense really that I have decreased lag with the 63's while you saw a decrease? -

Cams are now 272/ 9.7's I would probably go back to 260's for a perfect combo, but even the big overlap with this GTX upgrade it feels pretty darn near perfect for response and power. I went to the track yesterday, and the corner exits were pretty much bang on, even with 2nd gear short shifted into 3rd it still had plenty of mid range to keep it pulling really well. The green graph was the power level I had last time, and now this is the new figures. I unfortunately had coil pack failures on the 3rd lap into my day, and the power level had to be dialed back down. I was trying to break the lap record for fastest street car record in QLD and I only had 2/10's of a second to have it. With the extra 80hp I was sure to have it, and the laps where everything was fine, I was driving pretty carefully whilst monitoring temps etc from my recent head gasket change and turbo upgrades. I am now selling my car and don't know if I will have a chance to try again. The potential for this thing now is truly getting crazy, it has been an amazing car. -

Just got my car back with the GTX2863's in my -5 housings, and it is heaps better, I have 30psi with 638hp at the wheels on E85 now, and the response and power in the mid range picked up heaps. -

I'm just about to do a cartridge drop of a pair of GTX 2863's into my -5's next week with the modified front -5 housing, I have seen GCG have said it wouldn't work? but I'm pretty sure you can't go backwards than having plain -5's. I am running this on an RB28 HKS engine, and was even looking at the 2867's, but I'm not very confident I need the extra power, and the response would start to suffer a bit. My -5's have a slight oil leak developing and this is the reason for the change, but I was worried about the 2" -5 housing as opposed to the 3" one on the complete turbo, do you any of you really see the benefit of changing the whole turbo over when the -5 mods looks very viable, especially with a drop in type approach by comparison? It looks like status saw some good results from this approach, has anyone else done the -5 rebuild with GTX cartridges? I seriously this needs to be looked at, because it would be great for people with -5's to upgrade far easier and cheaper than the other way. Sean's job looks great though, and would be the other way I would do it with a complete GTX item, bar the exhaust housing. -
Gee, what a bargain, this car is awesome value for money, if I was buying a GTR at the moment, this would be a no brainer. My 34 is up for sale in the next few months, will be a very sad day for me, I can tell you. Good luck with sale mate, don't drop the price anymore, someone will come along who appreciates your car.

This is a pair of Nismo AFM's. -
I'm selling the 34 soon, I've only done around 15 competitive laps since I bought it from you Aaron, and I have spent 15k on it easy too. Virtually no Kms been put on it except the drive from Melbourne to Brissy. It's a bit sad for me now too, but life just hasn't allowed me to use it anymore. Nearly 14 months injured didn't help. It broke the fastest GTR lap record in QLD on my second lap in it ever too......lol. It's .2 seconds off the fastest lap time for a street car in QLD now too, and it did that with less than 10 laps to get into the groove. You probably wouldn't want to buy it back as you have already owned it, but you would have first grabs on it if you were interested in it again.

Top stuff Aaron, the best things come to those who wait, and you my friend have waited long enough.......lol. Can't wait to see it in action, and hopefully that wont be too far away. The maintenance costs may hurt a bit, but I just spent approx $550 on a full oils change, and that was me doing it myself. $790 if I put it in the shop

Fair enough mate for oyur 35, but mine is an R34 GTR, but heavily modified and they know there RB26 engines very well. NextUp is only a new business hence the website status. On another note, are you going to the Norwel Track day on the 21st April? There is a heap of us 34 GTR boys going, and would be cool to get other GTR owners there too. I'm not sure but a mates 35 might be going too from Brissy, he has only just got it, so I bet he is looking forward to his first day in it.

Do you even know the two ex employees I'm referring to? They might be a bit younger compared to Gavin Woods or Godzilla MS, but there work ethic and care is fantastic, and have been doing long enough professionally and privately. My care gets treated like one of there own, and even washed sometimes just so I can drive it home clean. There prices are awesome too, no need to spend excessive amounts on your GTR just for the sake of it, it is just a car at the end of the day and not a high tech space shuttle.......lol. The reason why they left MM was for the same reason customers wont go back, and since they left MM it has fallen apart in so many ways, so I'm pretty sure they were the only two guys trying to keep it together, but when you have someone like Trent running the show, it doesn't make any difference.

Mark, your spot on with that info from my observations too, but not machining the flywheel.......what the. That is a day one, lesson one task, how do you not think that is essential on a clutch change.....lol. They probably put brake pads back on rotors with a 1.5mm lip too. Ahh shell be right.......lol. I haven't been to Gavin for a tune before, but ive heard good things, and as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. I am using NextUp Performance at Rocklea now, who are two ex MM employees (not hard to work out what happened there....lol.) and they are a great duo to get work done. I have had three separate jobs done at NextUp now, and every time I have been very pleased with there professionalism and high work ethic. I can also hang out in the workshop with my car and be on the dyno with John whilst tuning, it is a real car enthusiasts workshop. The price in which they quote is strictly stuck to with them and is almost never gone over, except where new parts of something else is discovered throughout the repairs etc. MM bill used to come back in at pretty much double there original quote which really got my back up, as they would never advise you before embarking on new work on your car. Sometimes I would only scrape to pay a bill because of this, and it was a regular occurrence. Almost all of the work performed by MM has been completely redone by my new workshop because of shonky workmanship, hopefully my recent repairs have been the last of that saga. I strongly advise anyone from getting work done there. They are very good at marketing to the masses with a high first time customer base, but for major performance work it is like playing Russian Roulette with your car IMO.

Not even one bit of Jealousy mate, I too was a Mercury customer for a year, and so have a few of my mates, and none of us will touch them again. First of all has your car been pulled apart extensively and modified? My mates car had a timing belt changed, they didn't do the front harmonic balancer bolt up, and within a short time his engine blew the oil pump from vibration, and his whole engine was ruined, and yes it has been verified from another very reputable workshop in Brisbane. They also did not put his oil filter hoses on the right way and reversed al the contents of his oil filter back into the engine. They have only given him a very small amount of money in return to fix his engine which is a total insult, and his engine build will cost 4-5 times the amount they gave him, and his car will be off the road for at-least 8 months as a result. My engine was tuned on the totally wrong setting, and was not told who was tuning my car, and I thought it was there old tuner, but didnt know until I went to pick my car up. My car was essentially a test car for Trent to tune a Haltech platinum pro on, and he did not put it in VE mode. My car worth a lot of money, and this type of rubbish workmanship is totally unacceptable. Put it this way at the track my car became hot, and with this tune, the ECU does not retard timing nor change AFR's to compensate, this can blow your engine very easily if not picked up, but luckily it was running on E85 which was a good amount of insurance on the day. Some of my parts went missing, bolts were left off and I had to go through he workshop and find them myself. I asked to have my parts compensated for and my car to be retuned, but after many phone calls back and forth, Trent straight out refused any money back my way for parts he lost, which he admitted to, nor was he going to refund the tune money, as he stated I did not give him the chance to fix it. I'm sorry but if you make that bigger mistake, your not getting another chance with my car. This is only the tip of what has gone on here, and the fact you have had no issues.......yet is great mate, but if your are using MM as a performance workshop to extensively modify your car, be very vigilant. Basic services and alterations are probably not going to cause you any problems for obvious reasons. Maybe before making claims about me being Jealous.......what a joke, you should check to see what other people and customers have gone through before commenting. And making claims about being the best with tall poppy syndrome....lol. Who the hell are you to get on here and say that crap about me, whilst you have not a single idea about who I am, nor what I think or do? Oh well good luck to you bud. I have thought long and hard weather I would ever talk about them in bad light, and when nothing was rectified for months and months, and I even told Trent I would keep my mouth shut if he fixed this rubbish up and did the right thing by me, but he never did, and now I think I owe it to the car enthusiasts to know at-least my story and some of my mates extremely bad experiences too, before others get burnt like we did. Trust me, I am only one of many, many horror stories that has taken place whilst guys have had cars under there care. I know more than you could imagine, from very reliable sources. I was a mechanical engineer in the Navy for 12 years and managed complex ship systems with many people in my department to co-ordinate and direct, I'm pretty sure my opinion is very valid and speak from a strong foundation of experience and workplace engineering ethics, not just some generalised rant about someones workshop. If you wish to keep taking your car there, that is your business, and good luck with that.
