My R33 Rolls too much! (track preparation)
PLYNX replied to David Kemps's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Put the biggest, fattest front sway bar on the front that you can find as most of the rolling is set up by the front of the car. Youll be shocked at the difference. -
Electric Water Pump & Thermo Fans
PLYNX replied to PurpleR32's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Hey I was looking at an alternative to both ! I'll bounce it off you guys and see what you think. I've owned and built a few engines over the years and was always chasing every bit of horse power I could get for free. Seen some interesting ones over the years. The most memorable being a fan driven altenator. But I digress. I looked at drving the standard water pump electricaly and finally after seeing a fan on a Lexus V8 got me thinking. You see the fan on that engine is drive by a small hydrolic pump through the power streering pump. So I wanted to try and use this pump to drive the water pump itself as the power steering pump runs any way. I dont think the load would be much higher so you might get some free horse power from this set up. Just a bit of food for thought and if I run across one of those fans in a wrecking yard I might give it a go -
Cryogenically treated RB26 engine internals
PLYNX replied to Shaun's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I think they were called the LSW group (02)9708 0888. They were claiming 200-600% in strength and durability. I looked into the process when it was only available in the US. The companies over there were at the time first dropping the temp of the components down to -240 degrees C and bringing it up to 125 degrees C then back to ambient temp over about 48 hours I think. It is a destressing process designed to negate the micocracking in the metal structure. From what I remember of my metal technology I dont think it actually realigns the the granular structure of the metal. To do so youd have to first heat the metal to about 900 degrees C or so so it becomes semi plastic and hold it there for quite a while to allow dendritic structures to grow with in the metal for extra strength. Then it must be cooled very slowly to allow the entire structure to hold in its present pattern. But its been awhile since I looked into the process and maybe things have changed Hope this helps -
No dont do it ! Dont EVER use any cloth to wipe dirt or dust from your car. All your doing is turning the cloth into sand paper . No matter what material its made of it will sooner or later reach a saturation point were its ability to absorb dirt stops and becomes a ABRASIVE cloth. No disrespect to your mum, dangerous_daveo, but I had a run in with an enjo sales person who offered to wash my car with an enjo cloth and a jug of water. We had quite a run in after they tried to ram (figuratively speaking) this product down my throat. I wouldnt have it and they got very upset and asked what would I know about the micro fiber technology involved. I told her a little, as I am an industrial chemist by trade and if she would proceed to wash her brand new Mazda 6 euro I migth consider it. Need less to say it didnt happed and I was outter there ! I sure enjo make a great product but not for me I affraid !

Hate to burst your bubble of denile Liner Dudes but this actually happened to me (but I aint on my Ps). Got pulled over in my Line by a RBT and was asked the standard question about drinks in the last 15 minutes not realising that lemon lime and bitters had alcohole in it . Blew into the machine and the cop asked what drink I did have cause I was registering ever so slightly on the unit. Luckly well under the limit none the less it still showed up. So be careful out there Dudes and Dudetts !

1000+HP GTR's For Sale on Yahoo Japan
PLYNX replied to NXTIME's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Hey their mine ! What the hell are they doin in Japan ????!!!!! -
If you are overseas (I assume America ) and you have doubts about the pistons then why dont you buy some of the other brand avaible over there ? Like Aries or Venolia etc. I myself am putting together a RB26/RB30 bottom end motor at the moment. Its using Wiseco forgies and I have had the tops of the pistons coated and the combustion chambers as well. All the reports I have had about these pistons has been very positive so I went with them.

Funny ! I was just having a discussion with my boss today about blending racing fuels and their costs at the moment. Said he used to blend fuel for the big petrolium concerns many years ago and still had the formulas. I said that they have to be non lead based and he said that wouldnt be a problem.Keep you guys posted

benl1981; Dude ! I do new reproduction R33 knobs. What suburb of Sydney you in ?
-
Hey Leech_, thanks Dude, the guage actually sits inside the Din parcel. I think your right but you'd probably get away with 2 guages there, a third would be pretty tough.
-
Dude for what its worth do a search for the Wiseco piston people they have info sheet on piston specs. Someone in NZ, on of the traders, does make an adapter plate to fit the RB30 into the GTRs. Also do a search In the RB30 Conversion Post in this forum.
-
Thanks Dude ! Like I said bit of a bugger to get it in there but I really didnt want the guage or turbo timer to be a target for thieves or the cops. About 3-4 years ago, I think, HKS had a very small boost guage but they discontinued it . It was about an inch or so across.Could get my hand on one so I managed to fit the 50 odd mm one in.

I got a Splitfire one but it was hanging out like dogs balls so I gutted it out, bought one of those blue LEDs the use for your wind screen washers, mounted it in the center of the steering coloum cover on top, mounted the pill holder under the blinker arm and hind the rest of the electronics in the space inside and underneath the steering coloum.

For all you girly men who are worrying about the ferry you actually dont have to go on it just keep crusing past and it ends back at the ferry on the other side. I'll be going and probally early and do a bit of fishing as well. I got a AusDay Bar-B-Q at Catti State Recreation Park. So its one or the other or all of the above.

What size mast/cyl brace bolts
PLYNX replied to grepin's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
There M6 I think ! -
Hey Ive taken mine out of my R33 GTST ! It was a bit of a job though ! From memory you gotta take every thing off the air con pump itself unbolt it from its bracket. Then move it around so you can get to the bolts that mount that bracket to the block. Then with both loose you can move the mounting bracket around to get the pump out followed buy the bracket.
-
Dunno ! I'll measure it for you. It took a bit of moding to get it in there and the top and bottom 3-4mm of the guage arnt visible but the rest is ok. I'll try and arange a few pics but I got no camera so I gotta borrow one. let you know soon

I put mine in the Din parcel thingie under my CD player along with my turbo timer. The lid closes up nice so you carnt seem them unless you flip it open.

Nah ! The herd I seen was at Wetherill Park Maccas
