  1. With NSW being one of the most draconian states and much more restrictive than most, you jest surely! I wouldn't put much faith in national guidelines either, in the ICV field, they've existed too for some years. At the coalface, when personal or state fiefdoms are at stake, the feds usually get rolled. The experience nearly 20 years ago, getting six points with intrusion registered in NSW - even with feral engineeers at that stage - was nigh on impossible, removable members, being the simplest solution. I'd take anything on BMSC with a large boulder of salt too, seems to be populated with a vast array of "sky is falling" types.
  2. Hope you're not contemplating working in control....or have the head games started already?
  3. Not sure how often you planned to plug and unplug the Motec if you went that way - and having done it once before, found the whole process more than a pain. Might want to get advice from Motec on disconnects, a lot of the multi-pin connectors have limits, I seem to recall the AMP ones we had were around 100.
  4. Ah, was thinking about a dark coloured car up the very top of the rise, asked us what we were doing, other than running around like headless chooks. Now I think of it, more than a couple of cars up there. Aerosmith is pretty bad, although that Tyler bloke with a face like a smashed crab can pull some women! That longish stage on day 5 was almost as revolting, conga lines of cars overtaking then finding no taillights to follow, hard on the picks, repeat to end of stage. Not sure there is skyline data there, suppose the first prerequisite of going at any pace is seeing the road though, screens are supposed to be around $500.
  5. Can't remember who was up on the embankment on the Silverdome this year furiously applying rain-x or trying anything and everything to prevent the screen fogging on day one. Del over on the ip forum tells me he might possibly be able to assist if you want to outlay a few sheckels and avoid the 12v dryers and not so magic potions, never know, might even get snow in November too!
  6. Infineon raceway near SF has teamdi just opened recently....if you're petite and dainty, seem to have small suits and odd size boots/gloves/etc they can't shift on special frequently. Probably heading in the wrong direction unless for SFI apparel, most of the stuff seems cheaper in Urope for FIA. The roundy-roundy Nascar places and also speedway outlets are generally cheaper I've found rather than circuit racing places, just be aware there can be a state sales tax implication if you buy from a storefront.
  7. 2" v 3", something to think about should the sudden stop happen - Scroth
  8. I'd believe the odds on that, would be verging on astronomical in the circuit racing sense. Even at the upper levels....or especially, a paid drive is a rarity, the Aussie A1 kid (or his father anyway) was paying 50K per round before that all fell in a heap and one of the F3 tyros looking to do Atlantics, was expected to bring near 7 figures US for a season about 8 years back. At the other extreme - and in sedans, some of the V8 guys at the 12hr at least didn't have to put their hand in the pocket - which otherwise you'd be looking at around 12k for the average punter.
  9. No recent experience of Nolathane. I'd avoid Noltec like the plague....not isolated incidents of them crumbling to pieces, even unused in the pack. If there's no compliance required to get the suspension to work, some turned nylon, if not sphericals would be a better option imho.
  10. Rules on fuel and oil runs should be in the category regs not the schedules. Other than Nascar, can't remember anything prohibiting brake/clutch fluid line in cabin.....and the past and present car would be in the doo-doo if that was the case. In the 2nd category they do have some specification on lines. The 3rd category one I'm familiar with, permits fuel in cabin with only bulkhead fittings and no other joins, no spec on whether flexible or hardline either. You'd be hard pressed to look past bundy for brakes, fwiw, annealed stainless is used in some aircraft fuel systems, vibration support being the important aspect.
  11. Short answer is yes.....pretty well every time, baggage truck comes in handy. Helps to make friends with locals if the tools you have at your disposal don't match the job at hand, should it get to the desperate stage. Also worthwhile not burning bridges either, came across a couple of stories of competitors ripping-off those who provide workshop access, labour or parts, small communities have long memories and word gets around to the long term detriment of the events.
  12. If things in NSW are a taste of things to come elsewhere and having had an argument at the RTA not so long ago after they changed the rules, according to the "staff eyes only" guidelines, R'nR imports are not permitted to drive to and from events, if you have a Au delivered vehicle you can, within certain parameters. To add to the absurdity, you can drive a prohibited vehicle on an out of state permit here with total impunity, so with the possible exception of Tassie, expect the float requirement being part of the price of admission to the lunatic asylum.
  13. Not sure he'd be prepared to sign his rep away on something a bit unknown, have used this guy several years back on spaceframe beaming and torsion... engineer If you're in NSW, for 3D eligibility matters, Lance Smith would be your man to speak to if you think something is possibly over the line, long association with ASSA, should be on the list of approved scrutineers. If the worst does happen and the cage can't be approved, we got a few ckd Evo FIA 4130 cages for the 12hr out of Italy relatively cheaply a year or so ago...just add filler wire!
  14. Won't be $80! Out lasts hex, easier than a spline and low profile snap-off location by dowel and pin.
  15. Find it hard to believe a council is going to send a road crew out to sweep up a few pebbles - will never happen in this fine State, they'll let a few cars do that. If you want evidence of that, the yearly resurface of certain stages a week or two prior, will have kilometres of newly laid bitumen complete with marbles....usually accumulating on corners for good measure.
  16. Jesus, some whingers out there! If you want to see some committed corner cutting, should re-wind to 94 or 95, a certain Celica having somewhat more than a wheel off the road might convince people how well off comparatively they are in the scene now. Fuel, meh, no one's holding a gun to anyone's head to go E85. Cheats (and rumours of cheats!), inequalities in car classing/categories has been around since the inception......few will admit it's the nut behind the wheel and the risks they're prepared to take, which will determine the outcome for 99% of the field.
  17. Expect you could have kilos in variation depending on construction. Near new, semi sporting Bridgestone off a jap import, about 12.7kg.
  18. Murray actually services those canistered Ohlins shown earlier - possibly not the other varieties, Frank (who I'm assuming you're referring to and won't touch the car shocks) seemed to think the pistons had an off road bike basis, so maybe the internals had Swedish origins and just the bodies are done in Japan. Interestingly, some of the guys in the US use those MX pistons turned down in older 3 and 4 way TT44s in club Atlantic and so forth which may reflect the larger part of their market and on-going development. In a non Nissan installation, valving and springing as supplied was a good way off for local and a certain O/S track condition, tellingly, the new build is MCA to avoid all the back and forth and $$.
  19. Might be an image somewhere of Peter Saunderson's Radical, a handy steerer.....probably Sports 1300 Qld newsletter, he has a support structure off the ROPS he's been using for 5 odd years to assist with lateral G which might give some ideas.....not sure I'd want to have a bingle with it though. Best practice I've seen was the Audi LMP (I think), with a removeable composite support up the cockpit center line a la open wheel norms from a few years ago - Mulsannes corner might be fruitful in that pursuit. Hope it's not spondylosis, do find the affliction helpful for spotting dropped money though!
