  1. Haha good video link. Was a pretty accurate summary of the race. Imagine if that guy heard the aussie commentators though, he'd have another 6 minutes on that
  2. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/360304-buyerssellers-beaware-of-stateroads/ Not much of a problem for the buyer though, but if everything turns out fine but the car is left there in a dismantled state you'll be in a tricky spot. ALWAYS be careful who you let fiddle with or work on your car, plenty of people will take a job on an import assuming they can do it, after reassuring you they've done it many times, then you find out to your cost and heartbreak they don't know what they're doing.
  3. You can't make a turbo non turbo. Critically, turbo engines have lower compression, so when you take away the turbo the engine has no power. So even if there was some way of magically turning off the turbo (for example by keeping the wastegate open somehow), or just taking off the turbo, you's be out dragged by everything you can see on the road. Owners not knowing about cars isn't necessarily a terrible thing, but it does mean there's probably stock coilpacks, a shitty no name clutch, poor tyres, either poor service history or the wrong grades of oils etc used in the car. All that happened to me when I bought my gtt from someone who didn't even know it's power output. Unless you're buying the car from the importer, it'll be unlikely the newer owner will have the import papers. As long as it's registered (do a revs check), it's fine for aussie roads. As to the auction grade, it can change a lot between when imported from Japan and when the current owner comes to sell it. And yes, you can hear a sucking sound. Love that sound, miss it terribly.
  4. Yes, that^ Excited for china, though it's not exactly the most exciting track.
  5. That was a freaking great watch, watched a fair few more of them too. Great series like that make motorsport, these overweight shells STILL running underhead cams are just not as interesting as any david vs goliath style battle (big v8's vs nimble less powerful cars). Sport is also largely dominated by bogans too who think that 1. the cars on track have any relation to the cars on the road 2. that v8 supercars are te premier motorsport 3. that introducing some interesting variety will ruin the sport's bogan history over the past couple of decades 4. introducing another make would bu un-strayan Stripped out factory cars with suspension mods make for a great series. Remember the btcc, 5-10 years ago almost every manufacturer was entered, and the cars were damn fast for their "milk bottle" engines, would give the v8's a bit of a run on a twisty circuit.
  6. Here's a good start http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/forum/13-wanted-to-buy/ Also have a look through the classifieds http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/forum/29-for-sale/
  7. What restrictions? Are you a p plater? Insurance? It is unlikely to be any cheaper for a highly modified car, which is essentially what an engine transplant is. Think about it, it's not a gtst, it's a gtst+engine swap, which is a lot harder to replace than just a gtst, which there are many of these days.
  8. I know the 34 has a viscous lsd, but i don't think it made a difference in the diff oil choice. There's a letter on the diff number that indicates what type it is, i can't remember what it is though lol. That might only be r34's :S. If you follow the advice on the castrol website you'll be fine, they seriously cannot afford to have the advice fking peoples cars up and ruining their rep.
  9. Doesn't the vh45de have variable valve timing too? Looks like it's going to be an awesome build mate, keep us posted!
  10. Why not just use a hand pump? Might be a good idea to test the pumps out before you dump the oil too. Going through the cabin is just begging for an oil spill. Can't remember exactly, but isn't it between the lsx90 and lsx130 or something, as the operating temp difference between the two is something like 30 degrees? The g70 can be used in both diff and gearbox too, it's good stuff. I don't think blowing will help get much more oil out once the bulk has drained. As for torque settings I'm not sure, but don't use loctite or anything like that. Someone did on my old skyline and it caused big problems trying to get it off. In the diff, do r33's have viscous or contact lsd's? Do they all have lsd's or just some models?
  11. I put one of those switches on my r34 back in the day. The stock boost controller had failed and was allowing 12-13 psi boost, so I connected a switch in series with the power line for the boost controller which meant I could switch between 7 and 13 psi. Turbo timers aren't really needed for normal driving, esp as most people spend a few seconds parking which is enough. It's more for if the car is worked hard, it'll give it a chance to cool down properly.
  12. Out-freakin-standing hahahahaha. hooon, what was the car originally, gts or gtst. swapping an engine over is a lot of effort, your $500 quote is probably for just swapping an engine with another of the same engine with things going well. The car would have required a new ecu, wiring loom, and engine, and the addition of an intercooler, plenty of piping, turbo etc etc to be changed from gts to gtst. The NA section has heaps of info there if you search for it, sooooo many threads detailing engine swaps and costs etc. Also why do you want to go NA anyways? If it were me I'd be putting an rb25det in there with a highflow turbo.
  13. wow, good on the saunsw guys for jumping up to help
  14. lol that's because 1. Learners can't ride (well most can't, it takes a failry long time to learn how to ride properly). 2. A lot of learner riders just want to be hip and cool and will never be enthusiastic enough to ride for sh!t. and 3. Half of them ride posties (exaggeration). The fastest l plate legal bikes can be bought for 6k and do 0-100 in a bit over 5s (with rossi riding anyways).
  15. It was a racing incident, happens to many cars every race, and both driver had to pit as a result anyways, which would have cost them most of the 20s anyways. FIA sometimes go overboard. But wasn't hamilton the one who made more than one defensive move? That warrants a penalty, but misjudging the width of front wing trying to overtake someone breaking the rules at 300+ km/h isn't exactly a malicious act.
  16. +1 high flow. There's a couple of long highflow threads with heaps of info in them. And the dyno thread has plenty of high flow results, so you can have a look at when the car makes peak torque and compare it to stock turbos.
  17. Lol, aren't forums just awesome for direct info haha. The very first thing i thought when i read this was why you need an fmic? Here in aus they're defectable, on my old r34 i actually had a cop look for 1. a pod, 2. a shiny new turbo and 3. an fmic, whilst under the bonnet. I had none of them and was on my way in no time. Are you doing trackwork? Or regularly hitting the drag strip etc? The advantage of an fmic, as you said in your OP, is that it keeps intake temps cool when you repeatedly run the car hard. On the road you don't really need one in normal applications for sub 200rwkw. Did you ever consifder upgrading to an r34 smic? They're bigger and better, not sur eon the cost but there are a few diy's on here. Also what makes the Chinese ones so much worse? Are they that much worse? Does it make any difference <300rwkw? I'd have thought if they're made of very similar material, with similar thickness of the cooling element and similar dimensions that they'd be fairly similar, maybe a bit less reliable? Do they maybe not cool quite as well and not support higher hp? I'm just wondering why the bigger names charge 2k more?
  18. Welcome so sau mate. You've probably already spotted the for sale section, and there's a "things to look for when buying a skyline" thread somewhere (might be in for sale, or gen maintenance, searching should find it pretty fast). Hope you enjoy it here.
  19. How do you figure, over the past year he has been regularly beaten by his significantly younger and less experienced team-mate, which is the only person who you can easily compare him to. He's come back into the sport to wrestle with people like Alguersuari while Rosberg nips off ahead (of the 17 times they've both finished Rosberg's been ahead 12 of them). Maybe he's better than some of the newer drivers but he's not exactly scaring people with his limitless talent (well he did scare Barrichello in Hungary last year).
  20. Why do you want to fill through the cabin? There are two other places you can fill from, the filler plug and the temp sensor.
  21. Sweet! I've always wanted a vtec rb20 rotary!!!
  22. Definitely call fair trading, and the free legal hotlines (cant remember what they're called atm). Also post up some pics so we can see what's been undone. Someone on here may be able to help identify what has happened.
  23. Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Companies are just so trustworthy, would never manipulate or try to fool anyone. So much lol.
  24. That was a damn good idea nismoid, i'll have to remember that. SLDN what has your insurer (if you have one) had to say about it?
  25. Personally, I'd struggle to justify spending $55 to make an oil or plugs change slightly easier. If it was a bigger job then for sure. That said, EVERY time I go to do something for the first time I find myself wishing I just conveniently had a hoist I could use. Esp for things that take a bit more time (such as everything first time round).
