Reading Nissan Fault Codes Ecu Fault Codes How Read Them
Galois replied to *nigz*'s topic in General Maintenance
depends on the model, up to $420 delivered I think. Look through the misfire sticky if you want to try some other bandaid solutions first. Also, is it misfiring much? At higher rpm? Or just displaying the code? Does the way the car runs change when the code error comes up? -

I had that when my coilpacks were going. Performancewise has yellow jackets for cheap, theyve been pretty popular for a while now -
Can't you import one?

a damn good sign

I'm so sorry to hear that mate, that really sucks. Glad to hear you guys are okay though. Just wondering if it'd be worth calling one of the free legal help lines? Maybe a lawyer might think of or know of an avenue that us non-lawyers wouldn't think of. Best of luck.

Rb30/26Head Or A Rb28 Stroker
Galois replied to TristantheBaker's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The wider the rear tyres, the harder it is to pump the water from under the tyre outwards, which leads to less wet grip. Also choosing a good brand will make a difference, kumhos or federal 595s have a pretty good reputation. -
Hang on, so you can't be voluntarily breath tested? Why is it that when it comes to the road there's a high emphasis on catching people, but not on preventing people breaking the law? It's insane. There's no preventative measures, it's just diddums if you're caught at 0.051. I'm not saying it's okay to drink drive by any means, but ever since I got off my p's (4 years ago) I've noticed that I don't feel right driving between 0.00 and 0.05 BAC, there's a noticable increase in risk and despite following the drinking guidelines and always being breath tested when I'm in doubt (and not booked), it'd be good to know your bac for sure rather than hope, but apparently there's no way of doing that. Like when people get in trouble for flashing their lights at oncoming traffic warning of a radar trap, or the rta run mobile speed cameras. You can make people slow down, and then they're driving safely, or you can just catch them and in a few weeks they'll get a fine, and in a few more weeks they'll be driving the same as they were before.

i remember hearing about a dud vspec for sale in a dealer pretty cheaply a few months ago, had like wrong lights and kit and panels etc

Haha, awesome thread! rb25 your insight into the other side has been awesome, thanks. For some reason I always thought that police wages were fairly low, not sure, but 100k to do hwp sounds like a great way to live. The old saying is true, if you like guns and fast cars, join the police! I'd definitely be keen to read a blog about your times, but I'd guess that's against regulations.

hey mate, i'd hit up the for sale and want to buy forums on sau, a LOT of random parts go through there

Be sure to only take your car to specialist mechanics who really know skylines, there are many many horror stories of people getting fked over by their local mechanic. I took my r34 to my local mechanic for a simple clutch change, took 5 days and he cut a hole in the bell housing, simply because he didn't know how to change a pull-type clutch.
-
Also check the battery terminals are connected firmly, very embarrassing when that's the source of your not-starting, not un-alarming problems
-
That is funny, but from what i can tell this is one of the best skyline forums in the world, there are heaps of international members. There certainly is no lack on knowledge on here.

Rb30/26Head Or A Rb28 Stroker

Which v8? The aussie built ones certainly shouldn't be much trouble for an rb with an exhaust and extra boost. The european ones on the other hand. I understand a little what you mean in the wet. You can drive slowly and controlled but there's no extra acceleration if you want it. I keenly remember being unable to keep up with various kia shitboxes and falcodores in my gtt, heading uphill from some traffic lights. Had 265 nankangs on the back and no grip at all, could barely take off without wheelspin. -
Motul has brought out a 10w40 8100 if you want to give that a try
-
Nulon 10w40 is a decent oil but way over-priced for a semi-synthetic. Spend the extra 10-15 and go with motul 8100 xcess, or whatever the new one is, or royal purple fully synth for the same price (if you can find it).

You might like these then mate http://smh.drive.com.au/motor-news/speed-doesnt-kill-says-benz-20100304-pjin.html http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor-news/140kmh-safer-in-australia-safety-expert-20101011-16fer.html There was another thread like this a little while ago. The whole speed limit system in this country is messed up. Why does someone in a 400k km commadore towing a trailer have the same speed limit as a skyline, or any other sports car? There is an acceptable risk that an accident may occur, the speed limit is adjusted for that for an average or less than average car. So when you're cruising along at say 110km/h in a skyline with fat tyres, abs and airbags, and an enthusiast concentrating on the road and knowing how to drive, you are definitely gonna outbrake the guy doing 110km/h next to you for the same incident. And if you have to swerve, you'll own that too. The s-class mercedes abs and stability control are designed with this in mind, apparently the stopping power is unbelievable, and the computers keep you straight. But owners of advanced cars like that are still restricted to the same speed limit as b-doubles on many roads. But this country believes that it is speeding that kills, doing the wrong speed for the conditions is fine.
-
Ohh and don't forget money, our money
-
Unfortunately the culture in this country puts emphasis on speed limits not safety, so an elected government would have an uphill battle trying to raise the speed limits. People are so concerned with the speed limit (and we have to be) that it is costing safety. Tired drivers focusing on keeping to 115 rather than the risks, doing 40 through a school zone on narrow streets with parked cars and hundreds of little kids around, that's all fine and legal, but certainly not safe. Speed is blamed for most crashes, but these aren't people doing 120 on the freeway, it's dumbasses doing 120 in a 50 or 60 zone, it's people doing the speed limit in torrential rain, they're the ones that cause the big and preventable ones.

Missfire Boost@4500-5500 RPM - The Answer! (for me at least!)
Galois replied to Nightman's topic in General Maintenance
Replacing coilpacks ends up being a must for the long term skyliner, they're probably the cause of your problem. The coilpack loom sometimes needs to be replaced too, they're like $180 from nissan or something (I can't remember, that might be way off). From the picks you might be up for one of these. Coilpacks have a few options though, depending on who you go with. The nissan coilpacks will be just under $200 each, which is why people use splitfires for half that, or yellow jackets for ~$400 for all. -
Yes what type of ferrari is that? It looks very new! I have pretended to "drag" v8 m3's to the speed limit simply because I wanted to know how much faster they are tot he speed limit, and want to hear that v8 at >6k rpm. Well, I would have if my partner in the passenger seat hadn't loudly objected haha

What I meant was that the nrma 200pt checks were meant to be the way to go, at least they were meant to be good. And mine was jack sh!t

Pod Vs Panel Air Filter's
Galois replied to Myfine Skyline R34!'s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
If you go pod you have to build a heat shield, otherwise it will only sap power and promote detonation. They do make it sound better apparently though. The verdict, thread after thread, tends to be go with a decent panel filter, and cold air intake if you're hardcore -
I got an nrma test done when I bought my 34, it was completely useless, didn't find out any of the things I actually needed to know but didn't notice, such as the wrong tyres for the rims on all corners, the front two tyres being completely different, the spacers on the front were different sizes (wtf!!!) etc etc etc
