  1. wow old thread, my coppers are fading at like 4000km, will switch to bosch plats at $38 for 6 soon. should also point out that the metal used doesn't impact the explostion of the fuel, ie: the power. and the metal lost is kind of insignificant, the bigger problems are damage to the plug by using a plug which is too hot or crap forming all over the plug from running rich etc
  2. no highways or anything?
  3. was taping up my coilpacks to try to solve a missfire while i save for yellow jackets and had a look at the spark plugs, only to find them very very black. I'm using ngk bkr6es plugs with standard 1.1mm gap and they have about 3500km's on them. do i need a higher heat rating? or is it running rich or something? car is a stockish r34 gtt with 3.5" catback somehow boosting to 12-13psi (still trying to figure out why that is)
  4. not sure if resetting the ecu would help, but it wouldn't hurt... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Re...de-t266512.html
  5. ~90oC and 2-4kg/cm2 on my r34 gtt
  6. ahh thank you so much pipster, i get it now, i'll get in and have a look tomorrow. cheers
  7. +1 for twisting and nuckle maiming *tends wounds after coilpack maintenance*
  8. hey, so i took it all off but the drain plug is too tight as well. i know now that i was using a 1/2" square bolt instead of a 13mm one so i'll try to track one down and "gently" persuade it in if the bolts aren't oo mangled. from the diy i read the guy said they came undone really easily, oh well. anyways, how do i tell the difference between the brake master cylinder and the clutch master cylinder? i've found one and a slave but not sure which one. sorry for the newbie question...
  9. yeah, it didn't come up on the aust post tracker thing but maybe it's too early, dunno, will try again later today... now to tape coilpacks lol
  10. money lol. just want to try the basics, and to learn more about it, before i take it to a mechanic
  11. looking forward to it, cheers mate
  12. hey, thanks for that. i'm still pretty new to this stuff, i don't actually know where the master and slave cylinders are... i think if i could see it i'd understand it more if i could see it. im having trouble with the clutch, it doesn't seem to fully disengage at high rpm, so i want to change the clutch fluid as opposed to just bleeding it. so much to learn lol, thanks for the help. if you could put some pics up it'd be awesome, thank you
  13. did anyone find pics for this? cheers
  14. haha careful mate, this site will take ALL your time!!
  15. hey mate, yeah 10w40 for the engine, and either motul 8100, 300V or turbolight 4100, royal purple, sougi s6000 or m5000 (if you can find some) all seem to get good ratings. some people prefer the mobil 1 0w40 etc, but each to their own. on the gearbox oil, im changing mine today with castrox vmx-m 75w85 with a small bottle of the nulon g70 additive. wanted to go pentire sin75 but out of my pricerange for a little while... im sure birds will respond, how will the vmx-m go?
  16. have been doing so this morning, just undid the circlip. the engineering place i spoke to suggested similar things, ie: heating, but strongly recommended i find a new plug as they may destroy the old one in the process. thanks for your help, now to get millions of sheets and towels to line the car haha
  17. hey, ive been looking at gearbox oil changing guides but they all use the filler plug. how do you take the gearstick off to put the oil in? thanks
  18. sorry, also don't want to hijack, but does anyone know what type of actuator this is
  19. impreza's, the rx and rs's anyways have a pretty impressive power to weight ratio, i think they're about 1200-1300kg (?) and the 2.5L 4 pot boxer engine has decent torque. you pay a fair bit for them though. mr2 and mx5 are both 2 seaters (bothers some people), and the mx5 is often hailed by top gear as the classic british roadster reborn, ie: lots of fun...
  20. because otherwise you pour oil into the car? thanks for the response. what is the circlip?
  21. Has anyone else had trouble with their transmission fluid filler plug? Mine would not undo, I couldn't budge it at all. It looks pretty roughed up too. What is the next step? If it has to be destroyed to be removed, how do I get a new one? Thanks
  22. oversteer is both fun and unsafe, and easy to stuff up in the rain and put it into a ditch. there are HEAPS of fwd cars that are lots of fun to drive. i drove an mx6 before i bought the skyline and was really impressed. the gearbox on that one was fkd but to drive it was very enjoyable, tight and neat and had a decent chassis. didnt get any understeer, which is the fun killer with fwd. if i were you i'd be looking at how cars feel, rather than their drive orientation. eg: mx6 was much more fun than commodores of that time, havn't friven any gts's tho in any case, most driving won't be thrashing it around corners. and when you do, a bit of understeer is much more controllable than some oversteer. even in terrible cars you learn to control it so understeer isn't ridiculous anyways (except the holden vectra haha).
  23. agreed. also remember to take climate into account, eg: on average its hotter in aus than in japan. and that oil requirements change over the life of an engine, and that every car is different ie: different cars are happy with different oils
  24. argh, so bought the gear oil (castrol vmx-m, wanted sin 75 but didn't want to pay, will replace this soonish when funds allow), mixed in a 125mL tube of nulon g70 (g90 doesn't exits it seems), bought castrol super dot 4 brake fluid for the clutch too but didn't get up to that, because i COULDN'T GET THE TOP SCREW UNDONE!!!! Spend so long trying but gave up with lack of light... will take it to a mechanic tomorrow, but i may have fkd up the grub screw...' if the grub screw is stripped, how can it be undone?
