  1. the battery hasn't been touched since it was installed a couple of years ago, we live near a beach tho so maybe corrosion could be a contributor?
  2. hey guys, so apparently castrol seems to be the way to go? what temp does the diff tend to run at? the castrol site recommends their 80w140 diff oil if operating "consistently above 30oC". would this be ok in my stock gtt? obviously im a noob, but im constantly amazed at how much there is to learn, eg: engine oil, diff and gearbox oil, spark plugs etc... lol any advice is appreciated, thanks
  3. Hey guys, So my brother jumped in his '94 camry this morning and went to start the engine, only to cause a massive bang and steam to come from the engine bay. The battery had exploded, blowing one of its sides mostly off. Any ideas what could have caused this? Cheers
  4. damn. so the r18 235/35's front and 264/30's on back are pretty horrific for fuel haha
  5. *further resists the urge to call the previous owner to express some pretty strong opinions* this adds to a very long list of things the previous owner did wrong by the car. thanks mate, hopefully im on the engine healing process now.
  6. ok so i changed oil a couple of weeks ago to kind of flush the engine as I wasn't sure what was in it before i bought the car and it was overdue for a service. i filled it with 10w40 nulon stuff. i changed it again yesterday with 8100 and the old oil was completely black, after only 1200km. any ideas why this would be? thanks!
  7. thats the error message i always get, usually round 10 mins into the first trip of the day, the tc system fails and the car sounds like a wrx lol. i guess its coil packs?
  8. hey guys, so that nulon stuff isn't real synthetic? damn lol. so the proper synthetic oils are royal purple, sougi and motul 300v and 8100? I had a look at the 300v the other day but ws retailing at $105 for 4 litres! the 8100 is cheaper but ive been running the car on the 10w40 stuff for a while. I guess the question is: how will i know if the motul 5w40 is too thin for the car?
  9. that's true, but id hope to be quicker up a wet hill than a stock, falcon wagon. that was a disappointing day
  10. i have this problem as well, seems pretty common. did anyone find a fix? cheers
  11. im a bit of an alpine fan, go to jb and see what deals they can offer you, they always bring the price down if you ask.
  12. i paid 790 for my 18" ns2 nankangs (inc. wheel alignment), 9"s (went with 235) on the front and 10"s (went with 265) on the back. but i'd advise spending more than that, they're a bit of a challenge in the wet and i can barely keep up with kia's lol. fine in the dry and infinitely better than the old ones i had, where rain made me reconsider driving.
  13. ooh, i have that. whenever the climate control is above the minimum temp (18oC) it blasts out hot air. is that easy to fix? (did a quick search in general maintenance but couldn't find much useful)
  14. i will do that sometime in the near-ish future, but atm slightly conservative on the mulahs. just wondering tho, why would coilpacks bailing cause the tc to fail?
  15. *oil pressure sensor, not gauge. oops lol, soz for confusion
  16. *coughs* yeah, sorry about that peoples. but got the ignition error code, so i guess coilpacks are the problem just as was suggested, reset the ecu as well and wow is it happier. response is so much better, and more power, it was very nice. however, having the ignition on "on" without the engine running for 5 mins resulted in my bro and i trying to bump start it up a hill for half an hour hahaha
  17. fuse maybe? when i put sound in my old camry we blew so many fuses lol.
  18. i guess here is as good as anywhere to ask this: i recently changed oil and filter, but not the pressures seem to be all over the place. before, on whatever sh!t the previous owner ran the car on, the oil pressure was just over 4 on start up, and just over 2 normally. but now, on startup its above 6, and in normal driving while warm will move from 2.5-4.5 depending on load. i put that nulon "100% synthetic" 10w40 stuff in, and changed from an old, large oil filter to the nissan one, which is significantly smaller. also, where is the oil pressure gauge? i tried to search for this but no luck any insight would be great thanks
  19. urgh and by unbalanced i meant out of alignment, shouldn't post when tired
  20. lol ill answer my own question for anyone who may have been awaiting an answer: error codes can be checked using this method http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Re...de-t266512.html lol, being a newb is a little tiring sometimes. i'm yet to do a search for coilpack problems, but it sounds like that's going to be the problem cheers
  21. it now fails every trip about 10 mins in, then is fine after 2 restarts. it pops instead of running smoothly, sounds a bit like a rex. how do i see the error codes? sorry to repeat the question
  22. got a mate who would sell you his twin turbo, 400hp, 793nm soarer immediately. nice and reliable, loves the car but he's selling it to buy a house. i know its not what you're looking for, but if you're running out of time you could buy something you'd prefer later
  23. dunno if na_r33 still reads the forums, but thanks for the many hours of entertainment, best story ive seen on sau!!!
