  1. well, that doesn't help with the psi readings lol. cheers for that
  2. That's pretty much what i thought when i saw that: front + dump + separate wastegate all in one, i didn't know they existed. Its def the type of thing im keen on, its on the list!!
  3. ...yeah thebottom of mine said R34-37-2A (not much help i suppose). But the import sticker said 06/99, which i assume is year? the tc and hicas lights are orange, the speedo and tacho are white
  4. very good. I'm in the middle of a cash flow erm, discrepancy? atm so simply happy with what i've got (tho trying to figure out what "that" is) and making plans for the next few steps later this year (it is nice to dream). definitely looking at front and dump pipes (their stock) and maybe a better catback and tip, as well as cat, and pod filter etc.. just aiming for smooth flow. will be good to finally determine whether or not its running stock boost, though i'm sure you feel the same
  5. lol, yes, to make it clear it was my question that was the noobie one. i'll have to have a look, it sounds like the differences are painfully subtle if you haven't seen them before. buuuuuuutt. i'm reasonably sure that its a 1999 model, and i read elsewhere the series 2's were 2000 onwards. I say reasonably because the guy i bought this from had no idea: he had tyre pressures less than you'd put in a camry (the car has 235 front 265 backs and 18" rims), different front tyres, different spacer WIDTHS on the front (not even kidding), illegally huge spacers on the back, 3" catback exhaust (not 4 as he said), he didn't know the kw (and was surprised to hear it), nor the turbo type (as in different to r33), thought the amp under the passenger seat was an additional computer... (takes a breath) need i continue? so yeah, how do i check what year it is? I assume it's somewhere on the engine, or in the engine code?
  6. umm, we're sorry? any reason for that? what's that supposed to mean? that the stock gauge doesn't work for mods? that it takes these upgrades to get to 11-12psi? it was a team effort
  7. damnit, such a noobie question lol: how do i tell :$
  8. Adding to this: Don't forget that the skyline engine is far more advanced than the falco-dunny-door ute engines so the efficiency from engine to wheels would be less than the skyline, ie: they lose more power. so that 290kw might be less than the 218rwkw we usually calculate (30% loss). Also they weigh what, 200-300kg more? Which smashes the power-to-weight ratio.
  9. not so keen to sell it, to be honest it's quick enough for the moment. 6 months ago i was driving a 2.2L 1994 camry, so anything would have seemed hugely fast. I'm not one for much but have been pretty even (up to 100km speed limit) with v8 utes even though the tc tries to kill the fun (lol), the only car to stay ahead was an xr6turbo a mate of mine has put extensive work on clean air in is NA supra which is now pulling 160rwkw which is a little concerning haha Yeah, thinking of keeping most of it stock and improving airflow, drone etc... 300rwkw ~= 400kw at the fly ~= 530hp at the fly > ferrari 430 (in max hp anyways) (>2 x stock!!!) holycrap lol now you know the cost, would you guys do it again? have you had much trouble with mr plod??
  10. do you have any exhaust mods? that might be the difference? just guessing tho
  11. hey, sorry don't want to steal your thread mate but isn't the stock boost in an r34 gtt up round 11-12 psi? mine is running with no mods and the in car gauge is up there...
  12. ahh, yes, sorry distracted watching the f1 gp. its 3" cat back with 4.5" tip. I'll check out that thread now, but i was more wondering what goals you guys did/would have? Cheers
  13. Hey guys, I bought a stock r34 gtt with 18" wheels and 4.5" cat back exhaust. I was just wondering what you would do if you had an unmodified skyline? Thanks for input
  14. Hey guys, A couple of months ago I bought an r34 gtt. But lately it has developed a new trick. Within 10 mins of the first drive of the day the tcs off and slip signs come on, as well as the malfunction indicator light. It usually just takes a few stationary restarts to get it back working, but i was just wondering what the cause could be? I had a look round for similar topics but most people seem to have permanent tc problems, whereas mine is only in the first 10mins of driving and temporary. Any clues? Thanks heaps
  15. It's mainly low speed turning and carpark manoeuvring. It does it intermittently (which is annoying). As far as I know there are no suspension mods, but the guy I bought it from got it as a mid-life crisis toy and didn't know a thing about the car. The back end looks higher than other r34s I've seen around. Could it have anything to do with the spacers on the wheels? Or the irritating fact that the front tyres are different? Many thanks
  16. It was only doing it in the high temperature of mid-wednesday. Does that narrow it down? Should I be regularly oiling something in the suspension/steering/axle area? Cheers, Ben
  17. Hey guys, My r34 has developed a creaking sound when I turn the steering wheel left. It sounds like its coming from the front left wheel area, any ideas? Is it a cheap fix? (fingers are crossed lol). Thanks for the input
  18. Hey guys, I bought an r34 skyline almost 2 weeks ago and yesterday went to check the tyre pressures. The wheels are 18inch and 225mm at front and 255 at back. The front tyres said their max pressure was 50psi and there was no such info on the back tyres (weird?). The pressures were down at 28psi so I pumped them all up to 42psi, was this right? Should the backs be the same as the front? Also the front left is a Nexen, front right Kumho Ecsta spt, and rears are Falken Ziex. Is this a problem that there are 3 different types of tyre on the car? Thanks heaps.
  19. Hey guys, I had a mongoose m80g and greddy turbo timer put into my r34 gtt skyline a few weeks ago and have noticed that when I lock the doors with the engine still running (on turbo timer), the system will automatically immobilise 30seconds after the engine turns off, but the alarm doesn't activate. Is this normal? Thanks in advance
  20. Hey guys, Thanks for the feedback. I ended up getting a mongoose m80g and a greddy turbo timer. It's all good now that I've figured out how to use the alarm lol. I like how the greddy increases the time depending on the turbo temp. I bought the alarm and greddy at autobarn and got them fitted at jb with an alpine head unit, all for 1200, the nissan dealer was going to charge that for just the greddy and alarm fitted. Cheers
  21. Hi all, I have just bought my first skyline and could not be happier!! Its a 1999 gtt with very few mods (as far as I can see), including a catback 4" exhaust and a computer under the passenger seat (not totally sure what that does though). I was hoping some of the more experienced (which is probably all of you) could help me out on a few questions though: The power steering boggs down when it is strained in parking. It starts to get stiff about 3/4 of a turn before full lock, any ideas? Is this even a problem? What is the rear wheel power of a standard gtt? Its round 280hp at the fly right? How much would exhaust/extra computer add? A mechanic is putting in a mongoose immobiliser and alarm on thursday for $900, does that sound ok? And finally (for the moment) how much should a turbo timer installation cost? Thank's so much for your help. I have always loved driving but now I can't get out of the thing. I am even missing the exhaust note as I'm typing this haha. Cheers, Ben
  22. Would the conversion kit take care of all of this? Cheers
  23. Hey guys, I just joined the forum so coming in a little late on this convo. I'm looking at buying an r33 gts-t from a mechanic for about 11grand. It already has all the mods I was going to do over time so I'm pretty happy with it. The problem is its an auto and the gearbox didn't seem very happy with the boost. Though that was possibly amplified by me driving it lol. I've had a look around and almost every gts-t for sale has a front mounted intercooler, which in nsw at least is illegal. Anyways, I want to convert it to a manual if I buy it. Are there any inherent problems with changing from auto to manual? eg: problems with wearing parts or electrics or even as simple as the pedals being in weird places? Thanks for your help, Galois
