Put Up You Engine Bay Pics
DriftinThruLife replied to NOXCUSE's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Hi All. Real nice engine bays there. My Question is to Viet boi, R31 power, Nytsky, DuffR32....and others.. I noticed you are using silicon hoses (correct me if I'm wrong, just guessing as they are blue).....and I think you are using them for more than just air (oil? coolant?). I bought a silicon hose kit kit recently (pretty much just for the colour, to dress up the engine bay), but after reading the fine print, it says "not suitable for fuel and other fluid applications". And I was planning to replace pretty much all the hose that was around the same size in the engine bay. Although alot of these are for transporting air etc, alot of them would be for fluids of one type or another. I mean I guess I won't use it for fuel hose (not that I could find my way around an engine even with a compass). So....have you people noticed any problems with using replacement silicon hose? do any fluids eat through it and leak? If anyone else can recommend with hoses I COULD safely replace without any safety issues. Please let me know. THANKS ALL PS: I might create a new thread at a later stage with an engine pic, with groups of hoses numbered. -
R34 Gtt - Mysterious Cable Under Back Of Car
DriftinThruLife replied to DriftinThruLife's topic in General Maintenance
Oh i see. Thanks guys. Eiher way...whether it's some sort of cable for pulling (silent/sports mode) for the standard exhaust....or a cat temp sensor as you have mentioned....I guess I should leave it on (as opposed to cutting it off) just incase I ever have to put the standard exhaust back on. But yeh, for now I've just just used a cable tie to hold it up and away from the road. Still don't kow what that squeaking is. maybe something wrong with the suspension. I don't know. Oh well. But I guess the cable mystery is over.... Now i'll have to try and solve that other thread I have....about the mysterious unconnected hose in the engine bay. Thanks for everything people. Very very appreciated =) -
R34 Gtt - Mysterious Cable Under Back Of Car
DriftinThruLife replied to DriftinThruLife's topic in General Maintenance
Hey all, thank you sooo much for your replies. This morning I was like "damn zero replies"...and now it's like "ch-ching! jackpot". The fact that a few of you don't have it, puts my mind at ease...since it's not an absolutely necessary thing. Just out of curiosity..those of you who don't have it...do you have stock or aftermarket exhausts? Since iseekool mentioned it's for the geuine/stock exhausts...mine's aftermarket, yet the cable is there. But I'm guessing it WAS getting used, since the dettached cable and squeaking happened at the same time. unless it's a coincidence? I'll start looking more closely around the exhaust area, and see if I have any luck. If I can't attach it normally, I guess I could make some sort of metal harness for the exhaust to sit in (as long as that squeaking stops). PS: i seekool...is that anything to do with the SPORT/SILENT exhaust switch? Whenever i press it, I can hear something moving...but don't notice anything sound-wise...I guess coz it was meant for the standard exhaust. Once again, Thank you all veryy veryy veryy much -
Hi People, I have a fresh mystery at hand (without solving that other one about a disconnected hose in engine bay). Yesterday when driving home, I noticed a squeaking noise (sort of like the springs of on old bed) coming from the rear left of the car every time I would turn. When walking away, I saw a dettached cable coming out from underneath the back of my car (R34 gtt). It seems to be a steel cable wrapped in what looks like a thermal/heat-proof material. The end seems to have some threading (suggesting that it may screw in somewhere, or something screws onto it). But I can't seem to see anything except a few holes in the underbody (nothing with threading) where it may attached to. The first pic shows what it basically looks like. The second pic shows where it is attached (on the back left, inside the "support" for the rear bumper i guess). There isn't one on the other side (the place where it would go is plugged by a piece of rubber). It's on the side of the exhaust...So I'm thining it might be a cable to support the exhaust? But I've never seen a exhaust supported by a cable. -Is it possible the exhaust was making the squeaking noise when the car was turning? -Is this cable to support something to do with the suspension etc? if so, why would it be attached to the the inside of the bumper support? -Is it some sort of grounding wire? http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae103/v.../IMAG0130-1.jpg http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae103/v...23/IMAG0131.jpg The next time someone looks under their R34, please let me know what this is and what it connects to? Or if you want to be an absolute legend, take a pic on your phone

Hi, I've got nooo idea what that is. I should point out, that I have the mechanical prowess of an eggplant. It's just at the back of the engine bay....near the vaccum lines? It's this "thing" (for lack of a better word) with some electrical lines, and also air lines? coming out of it. Electrical wires are connected to nearby electrical points, and other tubes are connected to their relevant connections. Yet this is the only one that's not connected to anything. I've had a look around it, and there's nothing nearby (as far as i can see) that it would connect to. The engine is a Neo Rb25DET in an R34 GTT. So if anyone has the same car....pleas do tell

Hi people. I really need your help with this. i was cleaning (well trying to anyway) my engine bay....and then i saw a hose/pipe that wasn't connected to anything on one end. After looking around for any obvious points that it would connect to, I didn't find anything. there doesn't seem to be anything within its reach that it would connect to. Is it just an air bleed hose or something? i mean is it meant to be that way?(i doubt it). It's at the back of the engine bay. See the pic... the red arrow is where it is connected...and the part im holding is the mysterious end that's not connected to anything at the moment. I really need a clue with this, the next time any of you look at your engine bay, please let me know what the heck this line is. Thank you all. http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae103/v...23/IMAG0127.jpg

OK first up i gotta say that the heatshield looks awesome. BUT... I have to ask... You used perspex to make it from (I guess it's good coz you can still see the pod somewhat), and you used a "heat gun" to shape the "heatshield"....in other words since perspex changes shape with heat, how hot does the engine bay have to get before it melts??

This is a fairly old topic, but thought I'd ask anyway. As some people have mentioned, undercar neons are illegal. Does this also apply to ANY neons on the exterior? eg, above the number plate etc. What about interior neons? On my previous skyline I had neons above the front mesh, and never got pulled over/defected. I drove right past cops on many many occasions, and none ever looked twice. (though i must admit, it was more subtle than the way some people do it) I disagree with most people on here saying neons look gay etc. I think everyone likes their own car to look different and everyone has their own tastes, whether it be neons, or chrome wheels or whatever. I personally think that if it's done in the right way, eg. put them away from direct view, and just get the glow light up certain parts of the car, to compliment the paint etc, can be a good thing. But yeh, to each their own I guess.

Rust Under Gear Boot - Solution?
DriftinThruLife replied to DriftinThruLife's topic in General Maintenance
Yep that's right! the ring with the screws in each corner with the rubber piece in the middle. I'm not sure why the tighta**es down down at the Nissan factory didn't bother rust-proofing this piece, when it's clearly been happening in previous models. I also had the rust problem with a previous Skyline, but as that car wasn't that expensive to begin with, I wasn't too concerned. However I only recently got this one, and seeing the rust is kinda like seeing needle-tracks on a loved-one's arm. So the verdict is, get rid of the surface rust with some sort of rust convertor (as opposed to just sanding it off)... and then use a paintbrush or similar to treat it with a rust-proof/Killrust etc to prevent future rust. I think those ideas are awesome. Thanks heaps people! -
Lately the leather gear boot off my gear stick started getting loose from my console area. I decided to take it off and either fix it up or replace it. When I did i removed it, I saw that the metal "housing" (for lack of a better word that I can think of) where the gearstick sits in, was rusted over. Now I know this area is not going to be seen by anyone, but RUST=plague in my mind. I've thought about sanding off the rust and applying a rust-proof primer.... but going nuts with a grey primer INSIDE my car seems very idiotic, considering the vapours will probably permanently make my windscreen grey. What would be a more logical solution? What about that WD-40 stuff? Wondering if I can simply "Clean-off" most of the rust. Ideas please..........

Dave074 that's a sexy engine bay man -
My window (drivers side) stopped working properly. It would go down, but not back up. I would have to literally pull the window up while pressing the button. After doing some detective work, and pulling off the door trim/plastic cover, switches etc..... I could see, that the scissor-like mechanism that pushes the window up, connect to the bottom of the window via these plastic rollers (also called "cups") that can slide along the rail. Problem is, the plastic bits were broken....which is why the mechanism wasnt connecting to the window properly.....and which is why the window wasn't going up. Has anyone else had this problem? can you just buy those plastic bits from somewhere...or do you have to replace the whole power window mechanism?

Just wondering...for those of you who sprayed the calipers and then sanded the paint off the logo.... Didn't you get that part rusting up? I think I'll end up just painting the whole thing.

hi, wherabouts r u located? -
I don't know why people are complaining about that miss34's CM4 front bar...... it looks alot better than some of the other ones i've seen The Uras front bar makes me wanna sing "I'm Mr Plough, that's my name, that name again is Mr Plough". The Bomex one makes it look more like a supra with a kit. and some of the others eg. Nismo, look like they are standard factory kits. plus it's a bit different to the usual boxy skyline bars, without being spaz like a Veilside. Thinking of getting one myself now =)

R34 Gtr Front Bar / Bonnet On Gtt
DriftinThruLife replied to DriftinThruLife's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Damn.....I thought it would just be changing the bar itself + but Thanks for that ppl. Yeh I've seen ones for GTT, but they looked kinda weird. eg. URAS one looks like the car is a shovel/snow-plough Bomex one makes (although not bad) makes the front look more like a supra with a kit. I'll check out the R34 bodykits thread and see what's available. thanks again! -
Anyone here had any luck fitting a front bumper bar meant for a R34 GTR onto a GTT? I know the R32's have different sized support bars underneath ie. you would have to replace the support bar before you can fit on the GTR bumper bar. Are the R34's the same? Also, Im guessing if the above works out, you would also have to fit a GTR bonnet (since the GTT bonnets have more of an overhang at the front). SO while we are on the topic... what needs to be done to make the bonnet fit? I have heard the latch and hinges need to be changed. I can understand the latch, but why the hinges? PS: I'm not trying to disguise a GTT as a GTR, it's just that the majority of bodykits I've seen out there are for GTR's. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
