yep I agree with Guy - GTRs are very hard to launch. See how many goes it takes Keir Wilson or John Munro to get their cars down the drag strip. I reckon the good launches would be 1 in 10 - even with their tough clutches/drivelines etc. Of course that is an extreme example, but you get the idea. Unfortunately Andy, most GTR clutches would fry on the spot with an 8k launch. Few people even try it (I know you are an exception to the rule ) Yes I agree with similar power GTR and a well sorted auto would be a tough battle. Remember too that is takes 0.2 seconds to change gears - so having an auto that changes instantly saves you about 0.8 seconds too!

nah I mate I don't always bite Can't wait until we have a drag strip one day to give you GTR some lessons ROFLMAO I am sure by that time I will own and R34GTR or maybe even an R35GTR
-
That is how you blow a trans
-
yep that is exactly what you do Andy. With the stock box and stall converter I can stall my car up to around 2,300rpm - which is just on boost and more than enough for a good launch. But when I get my stall converter upgraded, I will be able to stall to around 2,800 - which in my car is making around 10psi boost and around 100rwkw You would be very surprised at how quick my car is off the line. Can't wait until we finally have a drag strip I can get some numbers on.

yeah true, it all comes down to personal preference. I was just disagreeing with - and yes, I realise it says lol But I say don't make statements unless you have been through the hills in a tiptronic - it just makes you come off as ignorant. - like I said, (once I get my shift kit & trans upgrade) I guarantee you I will kick any manuals ass with the same power through the hills
-
^^ sorry I have to disagree with you Lee, and totally agree with Allan. I haven't yet done the kevlar plates/belts, upgraded stall converter and valve body to my R34 yet, but even with the standard auto trans I would kick the living snot out of a same power R34 anywhere - including the hills. With my steering wheel controls in semi-manual mode, I can change gears and apply power significantly earlier than a manual could - hence take higher speed into the corner (change down to slow myself down with my foot still on the throttle), then change up past the apex with my foot planted to the floor. I would be gone and have 2 gear changes done in the time a manual could match revs, clutch safely and apply power safely without spinning the wheels. And once I get my trans upgrade done I am assured it will be 100% better, faster and stronger. I can't wait - and it will cost a lot less than my twin plate Exedy cost me in the S15

^^^ unless you get a tiptronic R34 - once you drive one you will never go back.

Sambo33 is the man to speak to
-
yeah that is what I thought too Darren - until I checked the pressure and they only had 30psi in them! My old man explained that they are moderate quality tyres (they came on the Rays when I bought them), so presumably the steel belt is not strong/well constructed, and when the wheel spins centripetal force forces the middle of the tyres to contact the road first/the hardest. But yes, some skids may have played a part, as for about a month after my tune I would chirp it up in 1st when hitting boost, cos it sounds so cool

cool Luke - it really is an awesome day! Not sure what music they have this year, but some years they have great bands play too
-
awwwwww I was going to see Chris this week to get some new rear tyres - my rears are bald in the middle - not sure how that happens .... damn , now where local do we go for tyres?

After many years of successful years of hardcore drinking and weiner eating at Shutzenfest, may I extend an invitation for another SAU social get together - without cars of course. As usual I will be there bang on 11:30am Sat 12th January to hold a big table/chairs, and need some other lads to help me hold the fort and setup a top position from which we can come and go all afternoon/evening. Info: Schutzenfest 2008 Enjoy the Oompah music, dancing, food – and of course, the beer – at Adelaide's annual German festival, Schutzenfest. You can enter the Strong Arm Beer Stein Lifting competitions, or take a Traditional Bavarian Slap Dance lesson! There's children's entertainment, stalls serving traditional German food and drinks, cultural heritage displays and more. It's a fabulous event enjoyed by more than 20,000 people every year. Other attractions include Air Rifle Shooting Range with prizes for King, Queen and Open winners, and of course the large range of thirst quenching German beers. The 2008 Schutzenfest opens at 4pm on Friday 11 January 2008 and 12pm on Saturday 12 January 2008. Gates close at midnight both days. Be THERE or be SQUARE If you have never been before, then you don't know what you are missing. It is a tops day out, with all varieties of grog from (very alcoholic) apple cider, to German wheat (and other) beers, other imported beers like Hoegarten and Asahi, and of course pre-mix bourbons and the like. Then add all varieties of awesome food - including authentic German fare like Sauerkraut, Leserkase, kranskys, etc. Then add the fact that is is normally 35 degrees and there are literally THOUSANDS of half naked drunk chicks (and if it is hot enough they put up a spray tent - awesome entertainment to sit at the end of). Wives, girlfriends and others welcome - the more the merrier! Any volunteers to come early and help me hold some big tables/lots of chairs and have a BIG day out? :
-
yeah mate things couldn't be better really. He is sleeping very well (up to 8 hrs a night), and doing all the good baby stuff. Has started smiling and giggling a lot now, so is a lot of fun. Yep will be at Schutzenfest with bells on. Have the usual lads lined up for a big one. Am planning on putting up an SAU invite shortly. Might do it right now.

yeah how do you find out your profile link to share with others? -
Should be well under $100 to remove the turbo timer (it is a 30 minute job at worst). Or do it yourself and leave the wiring in there. Agree - get the installer of your new alarm to remove the old one - while the car is in 1000 pieces is the cheapest and easiest way to remove the old, then reinstall a new alarm
-
OMFG I couldn't be more jealous! Seriously, are you willing to take some other Nismo enthusiasts with you next time? *drool* Unbelievable once-in-a-lifetime pics! Keep them coming! p.s. I can't believe the RB26 is running internal wastegate turbos .... I guess they are limited somewhat by factory specs ....
-
yeah would love to Andy, but a 6 week old son, and wife off work for 6 months makes it harder to part with the cash - especially when I am so happy with the R34 atm - it is so much fun. But for the right $$$ I would do the deal!
-
sorry mate but that pic looks like it has the intercooler piping going through a hole cut in the body - that needs to be welded up prior to Regency. The certificate you have there says the fibreglass bonnet is legal - babow in SA - no fibreglass bonnets can be engineered due to different safety laws - these are just the tip of the iceberg. This car is a whole boat load of trouble - I would imagine a Regency inspector having a FIT when he sees an Sr20 in a Skyline (and yes they definitely know).
-
buy my R34 4 door off me instead - I will happily give it up for the right $$ and buy myself an R34GTR 230rwkw is nothing to be sneezed at!
-
Sorry mate it wouldn't last 2 seconds anywhere near Regency, nor any cop. You would spend your whole life defected and end up selling the car dejected. The validity of engineering certificates is iffy too - depends what mood the inspector is in. IMHO you are asking for MAJOR trouble. Surely the aftermarket turbo and ECU can't be engineered, and cops here are now trained how to spot non-standard turbo setups etc etc. Don't even consider taking those wheels anywhere on SA roads - the offset is clearly crazy Jap style, and won't last even 2 seconds in front of any cop, let alone Regency. Above and beyond everything else, why the hell would anyone put an SR20 in an R34? Shame, shame, blasphemy, shame
