hey Sean - the induction noise is now fantastic - you can hugely hear the sucking sound and the turbo spooling up! The CAI is very easy to fit. The whole operation of fitting the CAI and pod took around half an hour in my garage. By far the easiest thing I will ever do to it. The gauges however took a significant amount of bracket fabrication time and stuffing around. All up I think it took around 6 hours. The alarm, GPS, pager system, multiple internal piezos and various other security features were fitted today. Segregated front/dump pipe (from Batmbl), Enhaust Control Valve, high flow cat and Jasma exhaust go on Thursday. Then I have to sort the suspension thing out (and you can have your springs back). Looking at Apexi coilovers at this stage. So on the weekend that leaves: HID kit, replace other globes with LEDs, reversing sensors, rear 400W 6.5" shelf speakers, 12" sub in box with amp, front door 6" DLS Splits, change all indicators to smoked, fit radiator hood, and various other items to do. So little time, so many little mods

too short notice mate - if I had a couple of days notice I would have come for sure!

rofl "technically if your car is defectable it shouldn't be on the road anyway and you will get pulled over eventually cruise or no cruise." mate, according to the cops every single one of our cars is illegal - and if they can't actually find something, they will make something up. Sounds like you got extremely lucky, as some of the stories I have heard about harrassment are horrendous. Regardless of how well we behave, if we gather in very large numbers they will block off carpark exits and go to town with the defect notices. I will still go, just saying that there will be trouble. Such is life ....

I agree Mick - this is fast turning into a 'scooter' cruise ....

R34gtt And R33gtr Suspension
Nightcrawler replied to Nightcrawler's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
thanks Sydneykid - that is the exact explanation I was after. Thanks very much for your time!! -
yeah Batty I am driving her daily. Still plenty of things to put on her, but it all takes time. Give me a buzz when you get into town.

thanks for the generous comments guys! mad34 - the gauges themselves were only $200 from Just Jap, then I made the brackets to fit myself. Wiring up is quite easy (I cut into the factory loom for power, lights etc), but I haven't actually got any of them wired up to sensors. That is the big headache - one I may leave to a workshop when she goes in to get some things done. The boost is easy to do, but I haven't figured out whether there are stock spots you can put the oil and water temp sensors - I will have a lok at whats involved this weekend. In order to put an oil temp gauge in my S15, Car Toys had to drill a big hole in my sump and weld in a bolt for the temp sensor to screw into - was a major headache and cost. I am hoping the RB25 has factory plugged holes I can remove to use. Does anyone know?

I agree with Joel and Brad. Doesn't matter what import car you drive, as long as you have not just got your license and aren't going to do stupid things to draw attention to the group, the car should be welcome. Of course there are certain minimum performance criteria that need to be met so you don't slow the group down

hehe - actually, had I realised that V35 compliance was going to be available so soon, I would have one in my driveway right now instead of the 34. True I saw quite a few G35s in the USA and absolutely fell in love with them. But, it wouldn't have to be a black coupe - I spotted a very nice silver 4 door on Prestige a couple of months back - VQ35DE, Bose sound, leather interior, GPS/TV and 8 speed auto gearbox. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Strap a $15,000 twin turbo kit on and it would be good for easy low 12 second 1/4 mile times
-
yes you do. In my S15 I cut a big hole under the air pod and ducted air from the front bar straight into my CAI partition/pod
-
hey Chapman. Did you read the thread about my R34. The CAI looks good, and I love the induction noise now from the Apexi pod Thanks mate!

Vange - I have had good service and results from Turbo Tune, so I wouldn't worry. Michael has tuned my S15 for 2 years and always has a safe/rich tune (at my request), and will not try to get every last rwkw at the risk of detonating an engine (like some other tuners around will). Every workshop has people who have had bad experiences, so don't worry about what everyone has to say. My car was last there 2 months ago and I am very happy. Lots of the stories you will hear are from x years ago - so aren't really up to date. That said, everyone is human and every single workshop has had some sort of mistake or failure that people will always tell you about. You hear little of good reports. However, Boostworx is one workshop I have heard nothing but good things about. Maybe get Shaun to put it on his dyno just to make sure the tune and afrs look ok - if you are worried, that is.

hey DriftR33, not sure why you edited your post, but I still have my factory snorkel for my S15 - not sure if it could be modifed to suit an R33, but I would think it could be.
-
Tim - nah not going to go the bigger turbo option until maybe way down the track. I have to decide how long I am going to keep the car for, then decide if it is worth it. For the record I am actually quite impressed with how well she goes. This is my next car
-
thanks mate - you wait until you see what happens in the next 2 weeks - oh forgot to add I put my rims back on - fresh back from being machined back and fully resprayed - they came up a treat.

So, for those that entered the betting pool on how long before I would start modding my 'staying stock' R34, the winner is: more than 24 hours, less than 48 hours. I lasted a full 24 hours without doing a thing to it, but have since added an MP3/CD player, Apexi Power Intake & 'Maxx special' CAI air box, and fabricated a new gauge cluster and installed 3 new AutoMeter smoked face gauges. Pics below for your enjoyment.

I know these 2 cars suspension is outwardly the same (eyelets at the front, forks at the rear), and I often see suspension advertised as 'to suit R33GTR/R34GTT', but does anyone really know if they are a straight swap? Of course the loads that each model has to carry is different - but assuming you bought damper adjustable shocks for an R33GTR, would they be any good in an R34GTT (assuming you had springs to suit R34GTT already)? Has anyone tried this - I want hard proof - not just he said/she said. Thanks.
-
I know what this was worth new, but I offer $500 since newer models are getting cheaper and cheaper on Ebay. Have cash ready.
-
thanks guys. No the S15 is not yet gone ... but I will try harder to sell it now I have the replacement. Sorry, not coming out to G1, have other things on. I will catch everyone around sooner or later
-
no-one would have seen it on the road yet (since I picked it up this arvo), but a certain black beast in my possession is now complied and out there .... with standard plates for now.
-
damn, I just read the wiki description of a feeder - that is truly f@$ked up!!!
