As great as V36s are, if you are not hard up for coin then skip the V36 and go straight for a V37 .... that is what I am doing. Every bit the spec and build quality of BMWs twice the price or more. Luxury 268kw Hybrid with 7l/100km. Yes please. http://www.themotorreport.com.au/58171/2014-infiniti-q50-australian-road-test-review

Please, PLEASE use the search function before starting a new thread - this has been covered DOZENS of times before. And as Sonicii said (and from my own experience) you have basically bought a lemon, and it is more than likely unfixable. These are VERY unreliable gearboxes, VERY expensive to troubleshoot and almost no-one in Australia has the expertise to fix them.

What Should I Price My V35 At?
Nightcrawler replied to D2K77's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Yeah, be prepared for a selling period of around 6 months. Even when I sold my R34 and S15 previously it took a LOOOOOOONG time. As awesome as these cars are, the market is flooded and people generally don't know what the heck they are, even after all these years. -
Nah you won't find anywhere that sells gear at reasonable prices unless they are very cheap fibreglass knock-offs. But I do know of some urethane Nismo copy bars for sale at an excellent price *cough* http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/433400-f-s-v35-coupe-urethane-nismo-style-front-bumper-bars/

Sounds to me like the innards of one of your cat converters has come loose - makes a noise like this at certain revs, and not at others. Get the workshop that does your next service to pull them off and shake them around to see if they rattle. It also could be one of your many heat shields come slightly loose and rattles at certain revs.
-
They are stil pretty rare. $500-$750?
-
Yep, but keep each shipment value under $1,000 otherwise you will incur the wrath of customs, duty and gst on top.
-
Pretty sure you would be completely out of luck, unless the V36 sedan guards are a LOT bigger than the V35 sedan - especially on the front. Mind you, anything can be MADE to fit with enough guard rolling and pulling. Can be an expensive exercise though. 10.5" +12 is a tough offset even on the front of V35 coupes. Rear is fine on the coupe with a bit of camber though.

No problems - post up a question, then completely ignore our perfectly sound advice. Especially this bit "higher of either the purchase price or the market value". Post up when you get busted for it and they rape you on a value that they decide.
-
The total amount of money you pay up the point of actually registering the car is the 'value' of the car. You can't say that just because you bought a car for $17k in Japan, that is clearly worth $30k on the 2nd hand market here, its value is $17k, can you? But you can try whatever amount you like. You might get away with it. But you might do worse and Regency pull out the Rebdook and because you knowingly told a fib, they put the highest value in the range on Redbook as the value and you pay Stamp Duty on. Or if there is no Redbook value for your model, they might jump on a high-priced dealer's website and pull a number from there.

350Gt 2003 Manual Or 2006 Auto?!
Nightcrawler replied to timw's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Oooh go the silver one, as apparently it is a "Unique Nissan Skyline", as opposed to all the other millions of silver ones out there that also imho, look as boring as batshit. Nah seriously, very similar cars, except the 2006 is a series 3. so has a slightly nicer interior, nicer colour (imho), probably nicer HID/projector headlights (not clear from the pic - and while we are speaking of it, who tf puts up a whole 4 photos when trying to sell a car? - including no underbonnet shot which is somewhat concerning), and it has the uber cool series 3 somewhat stove-top style tail-lights (which have a button to open the boot, unlike series 1 and 2 V35s). Personally I would go the white one. But as we said in the other thread, do some homework - at a minimum get it odo checked. But you should also get a decent local Nissan-leaning workshop to have a look over it - pay close attention to whether both door locks work with the remote with the internal lock button, whether both windows work with the car on and off, how worn/lipped the rotors are, whether the lower control arm bushes are on their way out, whether the cd player will accept and eject CDs, whether the climate control unit works perfectly (both heat and cool), and many other things a V35 specialist will know to look for. If you are unlucky, you may need to spend up to $5k in short time to repair all of the above items, as it is normally around 100k that many of these faults surface. Then you would say that buying George's/Sikahalv's near brand new V35 is MUCH better value. A poor man pays twice. -

Buying A 350Gt- Need Advice

The blue one above is NOT private - it is All Imports or one of their MANY sister dealerships or subsidiaries - you can spot it in the photo style and car positions a mile away. They often put bait cars that are either long sold or were never actually for sale, then when you ring to enquire offer you a different or comparable one. The white one seems like it is legit, and is cheap. -

Stay the heck away from anything that All Imports has ever touched. You have been advised. -
^^ loving what you've done! I vote for black mirrors and grille - but plasti-dip them in case you later decide you don't like it.

Yeah I have to agree - the cream/willow interior combination is completely pukeworthy. Go sit in a black interior one and it is like night and day. And yes, that steering wheel wear is very concerning - my V35 has 150,000km on it and the steering wheel has nowhere near that sort of wear. Japanese are famous for wearing rings that do screw up steering wheels, so it may be that. But DEFINITELY get an odo check done - there are guys around who can change a car's odo with a laptop in 5 minutes. Be careful. Ask the dealer for the auction/dereg papers. If they won't show you or provide them they are liars and cannot be trusted. EVERY car that leaves Japan has to have dereg papers with km listed, regardless of what the dealer tells you.

The rear noise is almost certainly tyre noise - our cars have woefully bad sound insulation and you hear plenty of tyre noise in cabin. I have KU36s on at the moment and it is so loud from all corners I am considering changing tyres! The front knock is most likely your lower control arm bushes - if so, the old ones need to be cut/pressed out, and new ones pressed in with a 10 tonne press. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NISSAN-SKYLINE-V35-03-07-WHITELINE-FRONT-CONTROL-ARM-LOWER-INNER-BUSHING-SALE-/191218679929?_trksid=p2054897.l4275

Combined value unfortunately. And that technically includes anything you bring back including souvenirs. Not always strictly policed, and sometimes they are A-holes about it.
-
Remember that you have to declare things you buy overseas when you come back - brand new car parts will trigger alarm bells at customs. The same $1,000 tax free rule applies (if you spend over A$1,000 you pay duties, tax and GST on the WHOLE amount), and if you buy things new over there and bring them back, customs WILL ask you for a copy of the purchase receipts to verify value. Just a thing lots of people don't consider then get caught out $$$-wise BIG time.
