Hey Just wondering if anyone here has had a similar problem to me, I was driving up to the Central Coast on Saturday via the F3, and I noticed that every now and then that the rear of the car would jerk to the side a little, it was like the HICAS was glitching, it happened about 4 times while on the freeway doing 100 from Hornsby to Central Coast Highway. Is it the HICAS playing up? or is it something else? I stopped on the freeway to check if the wheels were on tight, which they were, couldn't think of any other problem it may be other than the rear stearing could be playing up. Car is a 96, Series 2 R33 GTR. Any thoughts on this? Denis

Hey I am going to get the GTR an after-market ECU, but I have found many varying opinions, so I wont be suprised if I get the same outcome here, but I am interested in what people (that are enthusiests) would recommend, so I ask you, what brand ECU would you recommend for my 96 R33 GTR. I have found that Advan Performance recommend the Link ECU, http://www.linkecu.com/ , and I have also been told by others to stay away from the Haltec Platinum Pro, do you concur, or do you have another opinion or other ECU recommendation? Thankyou Denis

Well guess what? you were right! took it to Advan Performance Centre in Auburn, they found it straight away, however, all of last week it was at Castle Hill Exhaust/Performance where I had my VE SS worked (332rwkw) on (spent $12,000 on it through them, now sold), it looks like Skylines are beyond them, they had it for 5 days and could not work it out, I even told them to check the cooler pipes, they told me it would'nt be that, plus they left me with a nice dent in the passenger door, "thanks Dave, your an ass", anyway, I want to give the boys at Advan Performance Centre a big thanks, and to Dave at Castle Hill Performance a F$%kyou, all you did is screw me around the whole of last week, telling me you can't find the problem, you don't have time, you are busy, all I can say is, you don't give a shit about existing customers and a nice way to do business, you wont be seeing me again, Denis (silver VE SSV with black track stripes)

Thanks for the advice, I will check those things tomorrow and report back. Denis

Hi Just purchased a GTR R33. I was giving it some stick the other day and it backfired and after that it wouldn't idle good, I could not really drive it to move it off the road because it didn't have any power, anyway, I have checked coil packs, spark igniter, AFM's, plugs and still can't find the problem. My next thoughts are, could the timing belt have skipped a tooth, it runs like it is running on 3 or 4 cylinders, while the car is idling, I unpluged coil packs one at a time and found that the front cylinders aren't burning fuel (no difference in idle), it idles with plenty of black smoke (rich) coming from the exhaust and the front cylinders are wet. Has anyone witnessed this or has someone had a car that skipped a tooth on the timing belt? Also, does the RB26 bend valves when timing goes out via a skipped tooth? I have done a compression test on each cylinder with the results of every cylinder being the same PSI whilst cold, it also holds the compression. The cars timing belt was changed at 70,000, it has now got 120,000, it seems legit since I received log books with the car and everything matches. Any advice would be greatful. Denis

Hey Just on the look out for an R33 GTR, was just wondering, can you tell a Series I apart from a series II just by looking at photos, I have no idea if there even is an external difference. I know that stuff like grills and that kind of thing get changed alot to the later series in commodores, but is there something that is hard to change that will give it away in an R33 GTR. I have found that in 96, series II were produced, but does that mean from the begining of 96? If some one could help me with this question, I would be very thankful. Also, Is there a website that someone can point me to that will compare an R33 GTR series I to a series II. Thankyou

Sorry to here that mate, hope you had insurance, maybe a reward will flush the car out, that's what I did with my Harley, I stuck a reward poster on random telegraph poles in Sydneys West, 2 days later someone rang me to tell me it was dumped in front of there house. Good luck, I hope you get it back. -
How To Find Out If A Tommy Kaira Is Genuine

OK, I said a stock GTR (I drive my niece's GTR that is stock) could still beat my GTS/T, my GTR was not stock, it was boosted (not sure how much) with after market turbos, modified engine internals, apexi exhaust, apexi air filters & ecu, it was pumping out 262kw (acording to dyno sheet), the commodore weighs in at almost 2 tonne, the GTR weighs about 1.5 tonne afaik, thus power to weight ratio (which is very close in both cars), plus the traction in the ss was a problem, & as you know..........GTR's are AWD. -

What would you suggest? Me being a V8 man all my life, I have no real idea about how to go about it in a turbo charged car. I just sold a cammed up VE SS with 332rwkw untouched bottom end, but it cost a pretty penny, like about $8500 + a clutch $2000. My R32 GTR was able to actualy beat it, not that I was racing a profesional, my wife to be exact. -

Went to get it tickled a bit yesterday, she now produces 155kw @ 11psi with stock intercooler & airbox, I know it's nothing compared to alot of cars here, but all I really wanted was to get a little bit more power, you sure can tell the difference, not only that, but I had no idea that the spark plugs had shit them selves. Driving back from the gold coast, if you reved it over 5500rpm she would break up, I thought that the waist gate was opening to early, but found out spark plugs were fouled up & set at 1.3mm gap, they fitted new plugs yesterday & set the gap @ .8mm. Before they replaced the plugs & they had it on the dyno, it only produced 118kw, What a difference hey? It's been raining here in Sydney so I haven't been able to run it at the higher boost yet, the stock boost is more than sufficiant now that it is running alot better due to the new plugs, but I hope this rain stops soon so I can go out and play. I know I said "I want to preserve this thing in it's original state" but how long can you flog a dead horse, you got to face it, stock these things are nothing to rave about, but with a little extra boost, "hey", not even my misses could satisfy me like this thing does now. -

The worst part about it is, that it's true. My wife had the shits (when doesn't she) with me over the GTR, so I sold it about 6 months ago and bought a hilux ute, BUT! she found something else to have the shits with, so I said "I am buying a skyline", and she replied, "you do, and I am leaving" so I looked really hard to get one as soon as posible and brought it home & told her to start packing. -

The bloke who owned it installed a Blitz blow off valve and a HKS air intake. Just yesterday I removed both items & replaced with standard air box & re-connected the stock valve, I also replaced the blitz turbo pipe with the original one, "no cop is going to be defecting me" but anyway, I realy want to preserve this thing in its original state, "no noisy blow off valves for me", just good old Jap power the way they intended, although slower than my R32 GTR that I used to own, I enjoy driving it more. I had to get rid of the GTR because of my misses, but now I have decided to get rid of the misses & buy another Skyline. -

Well, I took a punt and bought the thing, yes it does have the Tommy build plate, all body kit has Tommy badge plates on them, Tommy 17 inch wheels, the build plate is in the engine bay & looks authentic, so I just hope it's not just a good replica. Denis -
Hi, havent visited for a while. I was just wondering if it was posible to find out on the Tommy Kaira website if the car is genuine. The car is an R33 GTST based Tommy, I was told you can check on the website, but as you know, it's in Japanese, I have selected English, but it still shows alot of Jap language, or is there another way, I have the vin and engine numbers. If anyone can help it would be good. Thankyou Denis

I used to live in Putty on Putty road (half way between Windsor & Singleton), that road can be fun, but it can also be dangerous, heaps of motor bikes come of the road every weekend, I remember a helicopter landing in our property to help a bike rider after he crashed just out the front of the monastery. Be careful guys, & have fun, I would love to go, but because I have started to pull things apart on the Skyline, its in no state to go anywhere. (unless I take the cammed up VE SS Commodore & turn the cruise into the Bathurst 1000, which I am sure you do not want)

Thanks, I think you are right, i'll stick to the original motor & do a rebuild with bigger turbos. & as far as Fast & the Furious, I love it, I was the only one with a V8 at the Blacktown drive ins when it came out, the part when the blown charger comes out was my favourite, but now I see it in a different light. Not keen on the Stanger in F&F3 with an RB26 in it though. @ Sean, thanks for the info, your car looks great with those rims. So far, I have tried the DTM Shines on the car in 19", what do you think, is 19" to big, that is the smallest size they come in. Here is a pick of them, they are gunmetal grey on the inside, so it would suit the car I think.......what do you's think? -

Well, as you can see, the GTR is parked on the grass in front of the house as close as I can get it to my bed, I have even changed sleeping sides with my wife so as I can be that extra bit closer, but "her" commodore still gets the garage, you see how obsessed I am, anyway, spoke to the Mark dude from Hills Motorsports (thanks Chris, I metioned your name, & he said your a good bloke), it sounds as if the sky (money) is the limit with these engines, but I have spoke to the boys that built my commodore engine, yeah they almost fell over when i turned up in the GTR, but anyway, they had a VL there that had a 3 litre in it, with an RB26 head on it, it seems that the head of the RB26 fits on the commodore VL (Nissan) motor, I was just thinking, rather than buy a stroker 2.8 litre crank for the RB26, I would purchase an VL or R31 3 litre motor & it should haul ass, what do you guys think. Denis Edit: Hey Sean, what type & size are your rims, they really look good on your Skyline, which is realy nice by the way. @ blitzxtr, I intend on doing a bit of research before I make up my mind on who is doing the engine work for me, since I am prepared to spend a lot of money, I want to make sure the thing goes, but at the same time, stays together, i'll give croydon racing developments a bell & see if I can catch up with them, thanks for the advice. I just found out that rims are realy hard to come by for the GTR, something to do with the X factor, (brake caliper clearance to rim) or are the wheel places I visited today just lazzy to show me stuff they might have to order in, they would rather sell me crap looking wheels that they have in stock, which was only 2 or 3 different types to suit my car. -

Ah, forgot to ask, what's the norm on lowering these things, pedders, kings etc, how much is too much, as you can see, the commodore sits nice, I think a similar height is warranted. I am going Nissan shoping now.
