Turbo Vehicles And What Could Have Been...
jjman replied to jjman's topic in General Automotive Discussion
yeah but as a general rule we would be talking about people who cant do that kind of work on their car. In which case a new head gasket every few months is an expensive little venture. Letalone the porting work etc. also consider the times. in the 90's compare an R33 and a 5litre comodore and trying to extract said 450bhp out of it... That commy would cost alot to get there, be a pig around town and chew fuel like a... Not to mention the ability of the drive train to handle that (transmission, diff, etc etc) btw LS1's werent the most reliable bits of machinery here in aus... (not sure why but iv had several mechanics infer as much). Also consider how many LS1 VT's there used to be when they first came out. I dont see ANY anymore. Where did they all go? -
Turbo Vehicles And What Could Have Been...
jjman replied to jjman's topic in General Automotive Discussion
exactly. n the 335 tt is meant to be quite the bit of kit, better than the m3 V8 and very tunable... ahhhhh, ok. N that is why you have an insanely modded turbo car? (in your signature area) yes they do. The current porsche turbo is meant to feel like a big-block in the way it pulls. Can't remember what it was but it was making an insane amount of torque well below 2000rpm yes it has been developed regardless of F1, but i would undoubtedly have been far better had they remained there.... I never get stuck into anybody about being more superior than their V8 cos iv got a turbo. But im forever getting hated for having a jap turbo. Just making that point. I love V8's n happy to say it. it is heaps easier... -
Seeing EVO magazine's write up on the Pagani Huayra gave me a huge phat. We now have a motor that is a 6 litre V12 running twin turbo's.... ohhhh yes. That is an awesome bit of kit and i rate it that much more now it has twin snails spinning up the madness as well as that overall sculpting of the body and cockpit. Just pure automotive utopia in my books... The thing is this all got me thinking. I love turbo cars- how much power they can generate, how efficiently, and how easy it is to make them go even harder (compared to modding or developing NA motors) Whats more is just how many of the worlds top cars (outright speed as well as benchmark models) are now turbo (or forced induction at least). For example in my rudimentary count of the worlds fastest cars at least 6 of the top 10 are turbod counting that fact that the Huayra will certainly join this group. (XJ220, Bugatti EB, Saleen S7, Bugatti Veyron, Ultimate Aero TT ) +1 more forced induction in the CCR- n that our side of the fence, not NA's Furthermore, the top 2 are turbo's (Veyron and Ultimate Aero TT). Perhaps it will be the top 3 or 4 with the addition of the new McLaren MP4 and Huayra. Now this got me thinking, this all proves just how good turbocharging really is. But then i became sad when thinking what 'could have been'. By this i mean the F1 hey-days of turbocharging and the tech development this would have been creating in turbocharging (they are argued to have been pushing up to 1500 hp out of them in qualifying using over 5 BAR OF BOOST on 1.5 litre motors)- and then followed the limp dicked pussy-as-f*k regulations ruling that banned turbocharging. Can you imagine where turbo cars would be today if this hadnt have been the case. Can you imagine where the tech development and application would have gotten too with an additional 20 years at the top of prototype development that occurs in F1??!! Im thinking that 9 out of 10 of the worlds fastest would be turbos with the last place probably going to a S/C vehicle. More than that can you imagine where sports cars would be at now? the donk in the current GTR probably would have been in the R34!!. Variable geometry turbos such as found in current porsches and a few other's would have been in our R33's!. Lag and turbo's having limited efficiencies of application would have been sorted in the 90's. If some redneck came up with statements like its got '6.2 litres' or 'aint no replacement for displacement' our simple response probably would have been "child please". and we could have left it at that cos turbo's would have been the undisputed king. Anyway, just my thoughts on the matter. And for christ sake bring the turbo's back to F1

hahahaha. yeah im not seeing that working well... go to a turbo guy and get him to map it. from what i know it will probably start surging at a pretty low boost... (after it lags into next week)
-
those motors sound pretty good stock. Nice turbo scream from em... I think it would sound wierd if it had a V8 rumble. look up mr2 turbo on youtube n see some good shit.
-
no they are mid engine- rear wheel drive (like ferraris/ 2wd lambos). Nonetheless this is generally agreed upon as the superior handling/drive layout. Hence why formula 1 cars use it...

u mean the second generation/ W20?- the turbo one yeah? If so id say yes. they are meant ot be awesome and with that kind of fruit on em it would be epic. Meant to bite back pretty hard if you go past the limit tho :s. Similar to a porsche turbo- particularly the 80's models. If an MR2 could have seated 1 more person or my 42kg greyhound id be one the MR2 forums right now in stead of SAU... Drove a 200+kwatw MR2 turbo with coilovers etc etc and nearly took the dive anyway. As it tturns out my current GTST came up the next weekend and the rest is history for me

What's Wrong With This Picture?
jjman replied to RB25PWR's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
yeah the pic you are using is an incorrect reference. What you have got is the right coilovers. UNless the spring rate of 10/8 is for the ones you ahve as opposed to the pic. 10/8 is going to be pretty damn hard. 8/6 is the way to go unless you are tracking it. Iv got them for my R33 GTST n are the same ones as your pic (and iv got the 8/6) Goodbit of kit for the street. N esp for the money... -
Radiator Offer Any Price
jjman replied to Shannond's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
radiator GTS or GTST? has it been cleaned out or flow tested? -
yeah its a good mod, especially if you can pick one up cheap. I got one for free when buying some suspension off a GTR it is worth noting tho that there is only so much an stiffer sway bar can do. If you want it harder you are going to need to change those coilovers...

R33 Gts-T Camber
jjman replied to Justlikemusic's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
id say your car looks lowered... also your tyres should not be chewing out that quickly unless you are putting the cheapest tyres possible on and hammering the Sh&t out of them. when was the last time you had a 4 wheel alignment done? misalignment is where most wear comes from... -
S1 or S2?

got another to add from last night. 1opm, dopey on wisdom teeth pain killers and girlfriend yabbering in my ear. While driving along during vergeside collection i see a bedframe that i think my dog would apprecitate his mattress on for winter. I stop to check it out. All good put it in reverse to turn around n the girl starts yabbering at me. In amongst the loss of concentration i jackknife it. nice big dent up the rear quarter and it also managed to pinch in on the bumper n tear it off :s thank god for having a 'daily'. -i really couldnt have cared less

Wheel Sizes & Offsets For Skylines
jjman replied to Sydneykid's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
should do with guard rolling and even some camber. Should look good. Do a search for 'volk' int he thread about best looking wheels on a skyline and im sure you will find someone else who has done it... -
mm, food for thought on the contrary arguement. Might go for keeping it at at least over a 1/4 tank for the driving phase n also making sure i dont leave it too empty in the weekly garage time. cheers again peeps

R33 Gtr Overfueling/stalling Problem
jjman replied to fomby639's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
do you know if the mines ecu was tuned specifically for that car in japan or if it is simply a mines ecu plugged into your car? mines ecu's are notoriously dangerous to cars in australian conditions... -
mmm, i might keep that in mind as i down have some 'favourite corners' that have me at pretty high cornering g's for perhaps 8-10secs so perhaps not the best thing if the tank is very low or even empty (fuel light on)... does anybody know if it is one side or the other that the pump draws from? therefore will be more likely to suck air under cornering 1 way or the other...

as is the usual case with stock radiators...

Whats The Best Way To Remove Dents/scratches
jjman replied to R33Keaton's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
hey mate. It was $80 for 2 decent dents perfectly popped out. Im in Perth, WA -
as i mentioned above though- it would be up to 3 months that a full tank of juice would take to be used in my car. I know it wouldnt go off in 2 weeks. also i doubt you would notice a drop off in performance even if the fuel was starting to go off. There would probably just be increased ping that you wouldnt be able to notice but would not be good on your motor. Hence my predicament...

Hi guys, just looking to get a bit of advice on what state to leave my fuel tank level in. Basically, i have my GTST as a weekend only car which means it gets driven 2-3 times over a weekend and then just sits all week. In doing this i have basically been filling it up with enough fuel on friday to last me the weekend then leaving it empty for the week before again filling enough fuel for use on that weekend. My rationale for this is that I know fuel can go off after a period of time reducing the octane level etc. My car is tuned quite hard and iv been instructed to only ever put BP98 in it from a reputable shop. As such i do this and only with enough fuel for that weekend's driving so i always have fresh fuel in it. If i was to fill it up completely a tank would probably last me 1-3 months and im worried that fuel in the tank for up to 3 months would be gettting shitty and perhaps causing problems (pinging etc from the fuel losing octane level). Do people agree with this rationale or is there an alternative reason to actually be keeping the tank full? (or fuller)?. Im wondering if always having less than 20% in the tank and usually it is sitting there with <5% in the tank will be encouraging corrosion in the tank or some other problem i havent considered...?
