  1. thanks for all the replies people. yeah begining to err on the side of too hard basket. sounds like it will be a mission and even then it may not be a good outcome... however if anybody has any pics or direct experience with fitting this typre of rim to an R33 GTST id be dead keen to hear about the experience...
  2. Hi all, basically iv got an R33 GTST. At the moment iv got 18x9.5 +36 on the rear which fit with plenty of room. I have the guard lip completely cut out pre-emptively but n these puppies fit with plenty of room and i still run the minimum camber possible on R33 standard camber system, also car is lowered alot. so now im looking at putting 19x10 +10 on the rear. Is it possible? any body done this before? (photos?) i dont want to run any more camber. But im happy to raise it up a bit in height (i have adjustable suspension) so it doesnt hit the guards like it does when its low. Also able to put on the arch flares so that it doesnt look like the rims stick out further than the body. any thoughts on all this? particularly actually getting them to fit... cheers people.
  3. yeah based on your intended purpose then an auto is a rational decision and will probably suit you well. Also auto's are cheaper. So that is your addedd bonus. Though I wouldnt overly mod it tho as you wont recoup much of the mod costs when you go to sell because, again, very few people want an auto skyline. especially a modded one... make sure you think about that before selling. maybe get an auto and put some decent rims on it and sound sytem which you can then transfer to a manual skyline down the track if that eventuates...
  4. it is a bit like that to be sure. Im on 3 vehicles (R33, Suzuki GSXR750, and the daily). so thats 3 regos, 3 insurances, 3 service costs (prob only 1.5 times due to only 1 arse but time is a service interval too) as for the tractor issue. I say find the safest and most deserted time to do your slashing and be done with it, rego be damned. This nanny state shit is a croc and that is a prime example. definately change it. timing belts are usually rated at 10 yrs. Also scare your self by doing the sums on what it will cost if it lets go and lunches your motor- and then work out the cost efficency gain by letting it go the next 30 thousand kays (nothing really). amen to that. I had my last R33 as the 24/7 car n it lost the charm big time. I just got sick of the noise, fuel n running costs n the dirt n door dings. Now i love the growl n power on the weekends
  5. oh, n 170 a year for insurance on the bunky. had to close the office door n have a moment with myself after that
  6. yeah the sonata it defaintely does the trick as a daily. Took my 33 out for a spin today n it was looking all glossy n immaculate. Must have looked the shit drifting onto albany hwy.
  7. ah yes. just bought my third daily. Got sick of a stinky carby plunker with no A/C or power steering. sold it n now went with- a 97 Hyundai sonata. Tinting, spoiler, a/c sony deck, new motor tyres n brakes- 1800. loves it. skyline is black so gets to stay polished and under garage+cover at all times. Makes driving it a joy.
  8. ah yes. that makes some sense. Gotcha. good description.
  9. shannons! modified r33 gtst. im 30 with essentially a perfect driving history and do less than 5000km a year and it costs me about $550 a year i think. as it has been said. shannons is more of an interview than a tick box application. sometimes they say yes outside the box, sometimes no when you are inside...
  10. i wasnt aware the safc altered timing. How does it do that?
  11. in my R33 NA i absolutely love the hicas. It is also far more noticiable on an NA because your throttle applications are far bigger which means the hicas turns more (hicas works on steering angle, throttle position and road speed). on my R33 turbo i dont really notice it much (probably because it feels so obvious in the NA) but i still like the feel of it. Seems to drift just fine too but then again iv got very good suspension and very good rubber. which is the comment i often give to people who blame the hicas on them losing their shit while doing a slide and looping it- sorry mate, it wasnt the hicas, it was a combination of your shitty tyres and noob driving technique while trying to be a hero.
  12. noting that you said 'i hate the 4 studs' i take it you have bog standard r32 wheels on it. that would be the best place to start if you ask me. get some sweet aftermarket rims that also have a centre-cap to cover up your 4 stud shame. here is what i got with my R33 NA. deep dish 17's. this mod will improve both your looks and handling out of sight. (as long as your put decent rubber on em and also dont go for rubber band profiles...) another tip if you head down this road, try to get multi-fit rims. THat way if you want to swap them onto a turbo down the line or even sell em all this is possible (also got that option on my rims) enjoy...
  13. yeah im a big fan of the 'daily'. Iv had one for years as a sportsbiker n iv kept it into my ownership of skylines. couple of contingencies though as it is a bit of a balance sheet i found issue- do you need a daily? are you constantly in areas which puts the car at risk or makes being in it useless (heavy traffic) costs- how much more it will cost you to have a daily (vs the higher km maintenance and parts for a 10yr old performance). use- is there alot of time where you will use the daily or will it be twice a week daily and 5 times a week skyline? for me all of those things add up so i do the daily. also means i really cherish getting in the skyline. It stays garaged and covered so when it comes out it is always glistening polished. also the power feels like nothing else after going from 50hp to 300hp. sound system to. its all a real treat that i hang out for and probably wouldnt appreciate it as much if i used it every day... and man, post GFC there are so many bargain cars out there (tho u already have your corolla as a daily yeah)
  14. Im not sure about state to state but as a general the car is out of the cops 'jurisdiction' when being driven on a permit unless it is- 1: dangerous to drive, 2: being driven dangerously. so based on this the decat is fine on a permit...
  15. well any decent hks/garrett bolt on you are looking at $2.5-3.5k. High flows from GCG/Hypergear $1k-2.5k computer $1k injectors $600-800 all of the installation work and tuning probably about another $2k u got a high flow cat? another $300 if not. got an electronic boost controller? another $500 if not (if you are getting an upgraded turbo n computer dont use a cheap boost t) is your budget blown to shit yet? (you are at a conservative 6 grand now...) oh yeah, and expect the unexpected's when doing this kind of work n mods which add power and throw up other issues- add another $1-2k (seriously, id put money on it, happens to everybody) do you even know what kind of condition your engine is in for these kind of mods (compression/leakdown test...)
  16. hehhe, good luck with that. I ened up having to hacksaw it off (very very carefully so as not to saw the thread on the top of coilovers). Breaker bar and the best socket available so you dont round the nuts off and wind up where i was...
  17. as always depends on budget. also sounds like you are running the standard ecu if you are only getting 183kw from 13psi... probably high flow from GCG or hypergear sounds like your best bet along with a computer. I also take it you have the full supporting mods for upping the turbo? (turbo back exhaust, front mount intercooler)
  18. What area of the motor in particular is the bubbling sound coming from or is it just the apparent sound from inside the cab?
  19. being a SSS is this car set up to be front wheel drive or in the GTiR engine conversion has it be converted to AWD? cheers
  20. if you are referring to "6" on the dash cluster gauge then its boosting cos that gauge aint in psi and as aforementioned take it to a mechanic before you break it. Seriously, boost controllers are not a DIY job unless ur very experienced. Iv seen some horror outcomes... (thankfully not on mine cos i had the good sense to have a mechanic do it even though im pretty handy...)
  21. Had exactly this happen to me a few months back. Gotta make sure the person admits to reversing into you (get them to sign a paper saying so in the meantime) and then fills out a cop form to say so. (i did this so there wasnt any issue and it went thru iunsurance without a hitch) If they dont its very easy for them to jump around n say you drove into the back of them and they will ping you for the costs... Good luck
  22. To those of you interested- this issue has settled down about 85% now. So a combination of the quik-grip fully setting and fewer vapours as well as putting armourall leather over the top of the leather that was stuck down, as well as a thorough clean of the windows and treating them with anti-fog seems to be combining to mean that the windows arent fogging within hours now. Will let you know how it turns out long term as it would be a bit of a warning to others if the windows will continue to fog if you do a big interior job with quick-grip... cheers Justin
