..I had never built an engine before I did my first one! haha Just go for it! I'm not an expert on the RB20 but have/am building a couple of RB engines. It isnt rocket science. Grab a good service manual if you can find one, make sure you have some guys with knowledge you can harass when you get stuck or are unsure on anything - and a mate who works as Mechanic or Machinist etc is also very handy when it comes to borrowing that tool/s which you only need once or twice and is way too expensive to buy!! http://board.performanceforums.com is a good place to ask for info/help if you get stuck. Good luck!

Lightened Flywheels & Oil Coolers
HOLD64 replied to Nacho Vidal's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
..the oil filter relocation kits are cheap - its the oil cooler cores that are expensive!! I was thinking of using a tranny cooler for an engine oil cooler and was told not to as they arent designed for cooling engine oil. Not sure exactly why (probably too much internal resistance for the engine oil?) but if you compare a normal tranny cooler with a proper engine oil cooler they are nothing alike? -
...$345 at Perfect Run before shipping. Power Intake Does yours come with the fitting kit bits and pieces? Might be interested at a cheaper price.

RB25DET gearbox ratios
HOLD64 replied to HOLD64's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The normall aspirated VL box is small and weak - around the same size or smaller than the RB20. But the MX7 or VL turbo gearbox looks pretty much the same as the RB25 box, same physical size. If you have the two of them sitting side by side you'd be lucky to tell them apart. I'm wondering if there is much difference inside them. Might stick with the MX7 for the moment as I already have one - they are always a straight swap later if I feel the need. Thanks for the info guys. -
I'm trying to decide which box I should use behing my RB30. Does anyone have the gear ratios for the RB25DET box (R33 if there is any difference?) ..stretching for info here but does anyone know the differences between the MX7(VL Commodore Turbo 5speed) and the RB25 box? I have an MX7 box but am thinking about purchasing an RB25 box as I've heard it may be better suited to my 4.11 diff. Would also like to know if it is any stronger than the MX7? I know the RB25 box will be younger which is an advantage. Cheers

..yeah - less volume of air required per turbo to reach the desired PSI, which in turn means less work for each turbo to reach the desired PSI. eg. how much air the engine will swallow determines how hard the turbo has to work to maintiain a certain boost level. With 2 turbos they dont have to work as hard to maintain that same boost level. ...thats what I understand from the statements above anyhow?
-
..just a question after reading through this thread. I'm putting 2 RB20DET turbos onto an RB30. These turbos are supposed to be ok up till around 14psi. By what has been said on this thread - if I have the 2 of them then theoretically I should be able to run higher boost without fear of the turbo's crapping out coz each turbo wont have to flow as much air to reach the desired boost pressure - hence lower turbine speed? :burnout:

There is guy near me inMelb. that slots standard rotors for around $40-$50 a pair. He makes race car components so does a decent job too.
-
..forgies dont add any performance - just strength for later mods. I think they are over-rated these days, if your engine is kept in good tune they are not really required - unless your going for really big boost and HP Whats a set of cast pistons worth for an RB25? Are they readily available in Oz?

I'm looking at buying a couple of Apexi Power Intake pods and checked out the price from Perfect Run. It works out to about ~$310 for 2 pods including shipping from Japan ($260 for the pods + $50 shipping*) *5 weeks via ship as I'm in no hurry at the moment Firstly I'm wondering who has bought through Perfect Run before - were you happy, were the shipping price estimates correct? They dont tell you the exact cost until after you've ordered. Secondly is this the best price I will find in Oz for a pair of these Apexi pods?

*bump* still looking

..yeah I have an RB30ET oil pump I was going to use but the guys who removed it must have used a crow bar or something to lever the timing gear off the crank and damaged the pump housing so now the gears seize in the housing I know that one of the RB26DETT oil pumps bolt straight on coz a mate of mine has done it - he used one of a '97 GTR (whats that R33?) I have known a few guys to pick them up so there has to be a few out there?
-
*bump* anyone? Just want the stock oil pump off a GTR
-
..its to fit an RB30 block, I was unaware they are different for R32 & R33's - whats the difference? Anyone know if there is much difference between RB25DET oil pumps and RB26DETT? I have heard you can get them for a reasonable price through Nissan but would prefer to try for a s/h one first.
-
I need an RB26 GTR oil pump if anyone has one.

Looking for a set of GTR injectors(6), anyone have a set lying around from an upgrade?
-
Thanks GTRken, I had seen them around I just werent sure if there was a factory cooler like that or if they just aftermarket ones. Sorry for all the questions I'm just researching a project. :bp: Being a Skyline forum I figured it would be the best place to ask.
-
Did any of the factory GTR intercoolers come with the twin entry - single exit end tanks? Also if its possible does anyone have the overall dimensions of the factory GTR intercoolers? Core dimensions and overall including end tanks? Thanks
-
..yeah I asked there first and no one seemed to know. There seems to be more talk about cruising than technical knowledge on that forum! :burnout: I know of Bosch injectors that are a straight fit, but I have seen some GTR injectors for sale around the place and am wondering if these will be suitable as an upgrade to the standard injectors on the RB30? Buying a second hand set of big GTR injectors will be a lot cheaper than a new set of Bosch injectors.
