The RB30 came from Holden's demand of a equivalent replacement to the 202. In the year 1986, only cars running on unleaded could be sold. The 202 being well passed its used by date got the boot. Holden needed a new engine that could make enough torque, meet emissions. They actually knocked back the v6 from GM at the time because it was deemed not powerful enough, overall it was just rough as guts. They looked at jag sixes, toyota could only supply the 5m series in small numbers. So thats when Holden approached Nissan. They had no engineering input at all apart from making it suitable for Aussie conditions and making it compatible with the VL chassis. Holden didn't want to run an intercooler as the cost of the RB had sky rocketed their budget already, so they dropped the compression and ran low boost so it didn't detonate its ass off with the shitty fuel and hot weather. Overall the RB series was even more powerful than the v8's of that period. Holden claming 33% more power and 15% better fuel economy. As far as what the RB was developed from. The block was based on the L series. The head.. I'm not too sure, could be L series, could be CA? The CA was based on the older E series. The CA was replaced not because it was inferior, but because it was cheaper to manufacture the SR. Whats strange is that the prototype VN has an rb30 in it and they dropped it, for the buick V6. Anyways, bit of history for everyone.

The 2012 R35 has some nice looking leather. Maybe a bit much for an r33 to pull off, but these are the least tacky colours i could find. I know you don't want black but as birds said its popular for a reason. 1. Aqua Grey + GT Black upper 2. Ruhr White + Black upper 3. R-Red + Black upper 4. Caramel beige + Black upper 5. Espresso Brown + Black upper 6. Shadow grey + Black upper 7. Black on Black

R31 17" Wheel Fitting Problems
JezR31 replied to sweefu's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Buy 20mm bolt ons. Dont buy slip ons. Just jap sell them i think -
Buy a thermostat, you probably have a circulation problem now . The thermostat blocks the bypass when it opens up and allows water to flow through the radiator, so hot water is probably recirculating around your block. Pulling thermostats out only works on old cars.

If Only I Lived In Nsw What A Bargin
JezR31 replied to maddowse's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
There's been an inquiry about the front bar at the bottom, so your bidding on individual parts. Also states - Item condition: For parts or not working and, Call Sydney Auto Dismantles for parts or inquiries -
As the previous poster stated. I reckon go the starlet. My mate just bought a 98 model for $3200. Its only got 120,000km, aircon, 5 speed. It looks brand new, the engine is spotless and the gearbox shifts like it was never used. He spent $30 last week to fill the tank up and has since travelled 480km. It might not look like the most manliest car but you cant argue with the savings

Deciding What Way To Go For A Engine For The Skyline
JezR31 replied to siki's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
He might be able to do it. I know in NSW you an put an RB30 into a VN,VP, VR commodore because those cars are under the same ADR rules (ADR 37/00) which ran up until 1997. Depends what year your R34 is and if you're able to find a late r33 rb26. -
R33 Gtr-help Me Make It Look Like A Tough Jdm Spec Gtr
JezR31 replied to brembogtr's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
It's an awesome looking gtr with the black on white. Easily one of my favourites. Usually the 400R bodykit looks tacky and doesnt line up properly, but the owner has done well with this one. -

Standard body and jap rims, maybe some ganador mirrors and old style GTR badge. -
Is this the third time a thread has ended like this? Sometimes i think your threads are a joke, but then i realise your actually being serious. Cars don't oversteer/understeer or spin out by themselves, its human input that makes them behave they way they do. Making auto sr20s Lose traction, hit gutters. I honestly don't know why you even bothered to start this thread. Its idiot f**ks like you being the reason why they banned turbo and v8 cars. You plant your foot in the rain and your wheels spun, and you ask why? Use your head, use common sense. Imagine someone taking their kids to school, or just trying to get to work in the morning and you take them out. Fix your tyres, get your suspension aligned and get someone to explain to you what the accelerator does.

Some silly people think if they take the V8 badges off their commodores car police wont know theres an LS1 under the bonnet. All they have to do is type in your plates and all the details of your car and ownership come up.

I have a 5L bottle of Kenco cleaner, sprayed some of it on the oil stain in the garage and it took most of it off. It cleaned all of the oil and grease of my engine. Also tried the truck wash at a spray paint workshop, very strong stuff.

In my opinion i would go with option 1, do intake and exhaust mods and leave it at that, buy some nice rims, good shocks and springs and a nice cd player and speakers. That will get you buy for a few years and you'll still have a car quicker than most other n/a cars. Then save your money and see where you want to go from there, you might get over skylines or you might want to upgrade to a gtr.

87 - 98 GQ patrols had RB30s, the older model prior to that used the L series and overlapped production dates till 94 -

Should be fairly easy, a lot of GQ patrol drivers throw away the carby and put the EFI manifold and turbo bits on for more power. Will most likely work the exact same way. You're going to get some serious squat in the rear end with all the torque. -
How big is your budget?

I think its possibly due to a small market here for the R31 back in the day. They didn't sell as well as the VL commodore. Im pretty sure the top of the line model sold for about $30,000 back in the 80's which back then you could have bough a house for in some areas. What exactly did you want to know about them? -
If you like chrome.. If you like those rims in your 1st post, buy them. A set like these look 1000% better

FWD's dont oversteer, and an AE86 is RWD. You wont really have too big of a traction issue in FWDs unless they have a fair bit of power and feed the throttle on through corners or dump the clutch. Both the SSS and fwd corolla handle well. If your looking at skylines, just stick with a gts. For a RWD car they have a shitload of grip when your put good shocks, springs, sway bars, tyres and bushes. I know of Subaru and gts4 drivers that get into a false sense of security, going crazy speeds around corners and being careless just because they have "awd" They think their car wont come unstuck and they make up for their driving ability with the cars handling abilities. Truth is, AWD cars will understeer just like a fwd car if they're in the wrong hands. Too higher entry speed, or accelerating through the corner and the front wheels can lose traction. I honestly cant think of a better car for the price than an r33 gts or na supra. So much better than anything Australian of the time. Huge aftermarket so prices are quite cheap for most parts.
