That seems hella expensive. Could you not put that together with Garrett stuff for about $8k? Possibly less? Turbo $3k Injectors $1k AFM/Dump/FPR/Pump/Rail $1.5k Manifold/Head gasket $1.5k Cams $1k

No, my mate's quite smart but he has been sucked in by the Apple bullshit factory. He's not up to speed on the hardware side of things. He's a programmer and is really only concerned with code. The Apple guy told him bullshit about the CPU being ZOMGAPPLEONLY! so why shouldn't he believe it? f**k Apple.

Turbine AR sizing appears to be what I'm talking about. I didn't think this was the same as trim, but wasn't 100% if there isn't some crossover in terminology.
-
I'm still a turbo newb, so excuse my questions, if they seem a little silly. By 78 trim do you mean the size of the exhaust housing? ie, 63 and 82 that we hear about. So you're saying there needs to be a third option, a 78, which sits between the 63 and 82? If so, like I said, I'm only a newb to the whole turbo thing so am still learning but this is something which became apparent to me very early on in the piece. It seems there is a void between the 63 and 82, at least for "our" motors. But then I suppose the 4 banger boys probably do well with the 63 and the 3L/4L boys fill an 82 or even 1.06 well. So perhaps the mid capacity motors, such as RB25/26s, are the only ones who would do well with something between a 63 and 82? That is, of course, assuming we're talking about the same thing....

I hate Apple because they constantly talk shit. My mate, who is not a computer numpty but uses a Mac, was telling me all about his new Pro that he just ordered and how it's got a CPU that's special and only in Apple products and is generations ahead of PC and goes faster than the speed of light and you couldn't build a PC laptop that performs as well for the money and it's instantly on when you open it and the cooling is magical etc, etc. I tried telling him it's just an Ivy Bridge chipset and Nvidia GPU with a nice monitor, but he was adamant that it was full of unobtanium for non-Mac users. I said nothing more because it's simply not worth arguing with that kind of mindset. Mac = hyper expensive PC with an OS for dummies. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yep, i just got the exact same That is what I consider a bargain. It just so happens that today it payday. Coincidence? I think not! I've asked for a few pics. Assuming I like what I see, I'll be placing an order mid-July at the latest (highly likely before that).

^^^ No sound till 28 seconds in case anyone else is going nuts trying to figure out why their computer sound has shit itself.

Holy crappoly! $250 for a 1500kg bar! Done! I've been searching for friggin' months. That's a bargain. Assuming the post to Aus, of course

Hrmmm, I can do without my car for a week. It's an S2 34 with non-Dayz kit. I'm very keen for a tow bar. Who'd you speak to?

I reckon the graphics of SimRW are slightly better but i reckon LFS has a superior engine. I also like that you can jump in and start racing straight away and race people and AI. I don't have a steering wheel but I reckon LFS would be absolutely shit hot with one. I've seen some of the stuff guys with them do and it's awesome. Genuine drifting on PC.

United Petroleum Premium 100 - Suitable For R34's?
Cowboy1600 replied to xntrq's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I think you'll find it's mostly placebo affect. Most ECUs don't have enough scope for self tuning to make any user of higher RON fuel. Note, I said most. I'd be surprised if an RB25DE could. -

They are the AU delivered ones, and of course a Falcon. They require 91 RON that we get here. -

10:1 is hardly high compression. A 2ZZ-FE in a base model Corolla is 10.0:1 and requires 91 only. A Lancer VR-X is 10.5:1 and only requires 91. XT Falcon, 10.3:1 and only requires 91. I'm not sure what makes the 25DE require higher RON fuel? -

It's fine. But unless it's the only fuel available, there's no point in using it. 91 all the way for a DE. There will be little to no benefit running 98 or 100 ron fuel. -
Have you sent Stao a PM on here? Or even post in the Hypergear thread in the Forced Induction section. If you read through there you'll see his service is pretty amazing. I imagine there is a reasonable excuse why you've not heard back. For your budget I can't see how you could go past a HG.

Advice On Buying A Car Time Again!
Cowboy1600 replied to hamiltonau's topic in General Automotive Discussion
That thing is seriously hot. Write out a cheque for $45k and wave it under his nose. It's a buyers market so if he wants to sell it he'll have to bend. -
Price delivered to Melb?
-
So far I have to say I'm not impressed. Live for Speed is much better, although it's not free. It's worth the $20, especially if you have a steering wheel already.
-
How many K's a year are you doing in this thing? What model Falcon is it?
-
Like what, and who would pay for it and how? The coal mining industry isn't going anywhere. Anyone who believes it is is a complete idiot. Oh, and great work Stao, keep it up
-
Actually it's not a tax at all, which demonstrates how little you know about it. It's a trading scheme with a fixed minimum price. Very, very different to a tax.
-
Why do you want 550hp? That's an unusual figure to come up with considering you clearly have no idea what you're doing. Seriously, there's so much info around on how to tune RB25 it's almost silly. But to give you a brief rundown, to achieve 550hp reliably you're looking at $20k+. Do you have $20k to spend? If not, then do a search for what is achievable within your budget.

Advice On Buying A Car Time Again!
Cowboy1600 replied to hamiltonau's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Highly possible. I'm not completely across the V/G series cars. I've just read around here that the CVTs are hella fragile and retardedly expensive. -
It depends on the type of road as to who is responsible. It's essentially council if it's a local road, RMS if it spans multiple councils (say a main road like Parramatta Road or the Western Ring Road) and then Federal if it's a Federal highway such as the Hume. Just to touch on the whole liability thing again, if Council/RMS was quick to accept responsibility then they would be inundated with claims, both genuine and bogus. I used to work on a tree lopping crew. We had one bloke pull up once and try and go us for damage to his body kit and wheel (VL Commonwhore). He gave us a big lump of branch and said he hit it a bit further back (where we had been working) and it had wrecked his front spoiler and left wheel. It was very possible, so we could have been up for the damage, until one of the guys pointed out that it was a branch off a yellow box and there were no yellow boxes along that road. We promptly told him to f-off to which he essentially replied that yeah, he was trying to rort us and it was worth a shot. There were plenty of others that I heard of. Most of which were BS, occasionally legit. At the end of the day unless a council/RMS/VicRoad is clearly negligent, then you've got buckleys of getting anything out of them. That they may or may not have adhered to every single guideline is not the determining factor in any claim of negligence. After all, those guidelines are guidelines set out by the organisation, not legislation.
-
That's the response I expected. And I think everyone needs to take a step back and think about this. What if they did admit liability? What would happen? They would set a very dangerous and expensive precedent, that's what. At the end of the day it's up to the road user to avoid obstacles, including potholes. We cannot realistically expect councils or VicRoads/RMS to maintain 100% of roads 100% of the time. It's simply not possible both technically nor financially. It sucks the OPs car was damaged but the fact he hit it hard enough to do such damage suggests he were simply driving too fast for the prevailing conditions*. I do it all the time but I know if I go honking around a corner and smash through a pothole then it's tough luck. Sorry Bronx, but I have to say that the RMS/Council are not to blame. It's simply a case of shit happened and unfortunately you have to wear the consequences. *When I say too fast, I don't mean you were necessarily speeding, but if you were unable to avoid a road hazard, then you were traveling too fast. Either that you you were just shit outta luck.
