  1. GT Liberty or F6 would be my top two. X5s are big, heavy buckets of shit. They are known for chewing through brakes, transmissions and turbos. That's aside from typical Bavarian electrical issues. Go find a general tow-truck driver and ask him which brand he tows most regularly and it'll be BMW closely followed by Mercedes. I wouldn't touch a Jeep with a 100' pole. Aust Delivered ones are assembled in Austria using American made parts. While better than the original full US built ones, I still wouldn't touch anything with so much US content. On top of that I figure if you have near $50k to spend, you want something fairly new, if not brand spankers. $50k is going to put her into a 5 year old X5. That's too old IMO. I'd want something no more than two years old for that kinda money. $45k gets you a practically brand new GT Liberty - http://www.carsales.com.au/demo/details/subaru-liberty-2011-11844003?base=1216&vertical=Car&cr=0&eapi=2&__N=1246%201247%201252%201282%204294963801%204294963605%201216%204294739407&silo=Stock&Range=Price:40000,50000~0.5&sort=Price And finally when time comes to sell it, she'll actually get something for a Liberty or F6 or 370 or Ralliart Lancer. You want to throw money away? Buy a BMW. My owns a 1999 BMW 750iL (5.4L V12). It is in immaculate condition and has less than 170,000ks on it. You want to know what he paid for it? $16,000 in 2009. You want to know what it was worth brand new? $286,000. That's $270,000 in 10 years. $27,000 a year. Ouch! IMO BMWs are for either enthusiasts (they are great performing cars) or someone who turns over their car every other year. If you're looking for a car which you'll have for 5+ years there's no friggin' way I'd recommend a BMW.
  2. Nope, through Watsonia, Heidelberg onto the eastern and off at Hoddle.
  3. Geez there's some shitboxes in that list. A Jeep? X5? Seriously, both buckets of crap. You redeemed yourself with the 370 though. I could think of much better ways to spend $50k than on a VE Clubby (F6 Typhoon anyone?) A Forester would be a good choice too. Some other suggestions: FPV GT/GS/F6 Liberty Sedan Ralliart Lancer (not quite as hardcore as an Evo) Lexus is250 Audi A4
  4. I do Hurstbridge to the cnr of Collins and King in 45 minutes in peak hour
  5. What kinda clothing do you have to wear at work? Business, business casual, casual? If it's anything but business, you could look at doing your Ps and buying a bike. Otherwise plan to use public transport, not your car, to get to work. I'd look at Richmond or Prahran. They are close and would be great places to live if you're looking for inner suburbs/city. Also consider Carlton, Collingwood, Brunswick because you can easily jump a tram and train and get to Hawthorn in 30 minutes. Pushies are also a great way to get around in the city and inner suburbs. Personally, if I were in your situation, I'd be looking at Prarhan. I like it's light alternative vibe and it's bloody close to the city.
  6. Ummmm... you do know Windows still holds greater than 80% of the home market, right? That makes Windows at least four times better than OSX going off your reasoning I hate Apple because they take people for idiots. $720 to upgrade RAM from I assume 2Gb to 16Gb. GTFO. That's robbery, but then as they say "a fool and his money are soon parted." Perhaps Apple is the IT version of the Darwin Award. "He paid $700 for $60 worth of RAM, a definite Apple contender." Apple: Cleansing the IT gene pool since 1971.
  7. I'm gunna take a stab and predict if you can afford to buy one $4m car, you can afford two, ie. $4m down the gurgler probably wouldn't much bother the dude who owned this car. Also, can anyone figure out why these things are in the region of $4m? Seriously, they're nice and all, and a clear step above a standard Aston, but fek me, I can't see where $4m goes, apart from bragging rights.
  8. OSX is freaking horrible.
  9. I has 4g. And by 4G I mean LTE, not "Apple" 4g
  10. I know exactly what it is. It's an Apple approved premium reseller. If idiots didn't pay such disgustingly inflated prices, they wouldn't still be that disgustingly inflated. Seriously, people complain about petrol prices and then pay $330 for an extra 500Gb storage.....not to mention $200 to "upgrade" to 8Gb ram (I assume from 2). So $200 for 6Gb of RAM plus the 15 minutes required to fit it. That's a rort, no matter how you look at it. And these prices are actually cheaper than genuine Apple prices. ie. to go from 4Gb to 16Gb of 1333Mhz RAM is $720.01 for an iMac from Apple. That's disgusting. You can go from 4Gb to 16Gb in a Centrecom PC for $60 ($65 to $125). And that's for 1600Mhz quality RAM. Yet still "Apple people" pay those prices.
  11. This... ...is why I hate Apple and think poorly on Mac users. Holy shit, I should buy a Mac store.
  12. No offence but your missus is a hack. My current laptop is a four year old Asus Extensa 5610 which I bought second hand for $400 about three years ago (it was my retired work lappy) and it's still going strong today. I pulled the heatsink off and gave it a clean and new thermal paste and it improved it even more. I'm going to whack a 120Gb SSD in it on the weekend and I reckon that'll get me through a few more years comfortably. How your missus went through three PCs in three years is beyond me. PCs are much cheaper, I find to be far more reliable and hardy and Windows shits on OSX form a usability perspective. And this isn't opinion, this is hard factually data cause I said it was. Anyone who argues with me is a noob. Go on, I dare you. Argue with me.....noob
  13. I've used it on and off for business usage and for long enough to know whether or not I like it. I find it to be completely unintuitive. It seems to me that much of OSX exists purely to do it differently to Windows. None of the differences are an improvement on Windows, just different for no reason other than to be different.
  14. Savtraxx, ignore them dude. It's your car and you've done a good job tidying it up. If you want to sticker up your front quarter, so be it. Ignore the tossers who have nothing better to do than pick on people on the internet.
  15. Not to mention OSX sucks large, hairy donkey balls. Where's the bloody poke emoticon?
  16. I see a Banyule sign in the back ground and the Vindin Suares designed home with the white ute. Where abouts you from? I'm predicting Eltham or Greensborough. EDIT: Wait, I reckon it's Monty near the roundabout near on Rattray Road
  17. The reason people (well, me at least) are attacking the opening post (not ARTZ) is because it's full of, well, for want of a better term, shit. Comparing two brands driven by two different people is ridiculous as is blaming tyre and brake wear on the car. My dad and I could drive identical cars, same price, spec and ks and I'll tell you my car will be a damn site more f**ked than my dads. He's 66 and drives like the grandpa he is. I'm 33 and drive like I'm 18. The way you drive will have a much greater bearing on the longevity of a car than the brand and we have no way to gauge the differences between your driving styles. For all you know the other bloke was doing track days in his GW every second weekend. And the prices are NOT similar. There may have been some fanciful way that they were close 6 years ago (although I doubt it - Carsales suggests the OP is wrong [2007 4x2 cab only tray back with ~50-70k ks going for >$20k still]), but at the moment a GW is $18k and Mazda $28k. That is not similar. We're also comparing a stock standard factory car against something with an aftermarket LPG conversion. We're also meant to take some guys inability to source the correct part as fundamental to the argument that GW is shit. As I eluded too, I know of Falcons which are well on their way to 1,000,000 kilometers with barely so much as typical maintenance so does that mean that Falcons are the pinnacle of cars and anyone driving anything else are deluded. Hell, my Datsun 180b was on it's original clutch, engine, box, diff and discs and had over 400,000 ks on it. Not a spot of rust and parts were piss easy to source. So if you buy something shit like, say, a Mazda BT ute which might struggle through to 150,000ks but hell, could detonate at any second, then you're a dumbo! And, well, I'm bored and have seen this episode of Big Bang Theory already. Perhaps it's time for some Beef3.
  18. You need an ECU, AFM and injectors before even considering a new turbo.
  19. Lol.....my GF bought it. I've not heard that before. As Hadouken said, just put it on. He should have also said "and enjoy your lag".
  20. Start at about 24 minutes. Everything before that is guff.
  21. Single cab petrol 4x2 with tray - GW - $18k drive away Single cab t/d 4x2 with tray - BT50 -$28k drive away. Where the hell do you get $22k on road? Ten grand difference. Do I need to point out the bleeding obvious? And I knew a guy with a Falcon that did well over 750,000ks with barely a spanner touching it, so therefore all other cars are buckets of shit and you should throw them away and drive a Falcon. And to compare tyre life is utterly preposterous. For starters the tyres are KHUMO brand not bloody GREAT WALL. Secondly tyre life is probably dictated 80% by driving style. As is brake pad life. As for the head gasket, it had an aftermarket LPG system on it and you expect it to be warrantied? And then blame the car for your friends incompetence at sourcing the correct parts? This thread is full of fail, beginning right at the opening post. Someone delete it before it contaminates the interwebz.
  22. Why not, out of interest?
  23. Good on ya, dude. You've taken a bucket of shit and turned it into something very respectable. Great first car and no doubt you feel proud driving it around knowing the amount of work you put into it. It looks great, especially with those wheel. Hope you enjoy the hell out of it.
