  1. You can get a brand new Xoom from EB Games for $388. That's a bargain if you ask me. If you are happy to spend more then the Asus seem to be the goods.
  2. Pull the plug, plug it into the coil pack, sit it on top of the motor with about 1-2mm between the end of the plug and one of the rocker covers, get a mate to start the car for you (turn your turbo timer off first) and see if there's a spark at the plug. You only need the car runnign for 2-3 seconds (no damage will be done when doing this). Perhaps even pull two and compare them. #6 might be sparking but be very weak. If you have lots of delicious spark, I'd be looking for a fuel problems such as a leaky or blocked injector.
  3. The injectors are capable of enough flow for ~600hp. Doesn't mean the engine is.
  4. Look. Top right. Search function. Type in "r33 high flow" and you'll get about 4.7 billion results. IBTNismoid.
  5. Woops! Actually, that was a typo. I make about 2.5 times that amount now. Three times would be nice I'd be able to shout myself a new dirt bike!
  6. It's a fairly basic condition of humans. The more we have, the more we want. Perceived needs. Look at "poor" people's homes today. Bigger and filled with more shit than those considered poor 30 years ago. Gee, sucks to smoke a $15 pack of smokes a day and have to sit in front of a 55" LCD. Of course the Commonwhore in the driveway with mags, spoilers and drainpipe exhaust isn't exactly a Ferrari, but it's still more than basic. Average wage earners have nothing at all to worry about. If someone can't get by on the average wage these days it's because they are living beyond their means, not because things are too expensive. The only thing which has really increased in price beyond reasonable is housing. But even accounting for paying a greater portion of the weeks wages for housing, we're still left with a very high amount of disposable income.
  7. Average wage in 1990 - $544/week Average wage in 2011 - $1366/week. Not quite three times, but pretty close. Prices go up, average earnings goes up. Everything pretty much stays the same. In fact I'd say in this day and age someone on the average wage has waaaaaaaay more disposable income than someone had on the average wage in 1990. Lots of things have gotten much, much MUCH cheaper. I was thinking about tyres for my bike today. Three years ago I couldn't get a decent set fitted for under $550. These days I can get a good set fitted for $400. That's a significant saving. There are lots of other examples I could come up with. No matter how things change, they always stay the same. As for fuel in QLD, I remember paying $0.49/litre for it in the mid to late 90s. I used to always fill up at A servo in Nerang on my way home from Bris. As soon as you hit the NSW border fuel would jump 25c/litre. Seems silly now. I used to get 26 litres for my $20. I put $20 in today and got 11.5 litres. In 1997 I earned probably $30,000. I earned more than triple that last year, so I'm not complaining.
  8. Not for the money. Spend $30k shoehorning a VK56 into a GTR and you'll have a bog stock VK56 in a GTR. Spend $30k building up an RB26 and you'll smash the living shit out of your stock VK56 engined R34. Not to mention the aftermarket support for RBs is probably 100 times larger than that of a VK. Sure, when money is no object, go nutso. I'd do some crazy conversions if I had millions, but just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
  9. You've made one MASSIVE assumption and that is that his payout was less due to the damage caused by the OP. So until his boss can provide some details regarding his claim, I'll stick with my suggestion to tell the boss that he can go fornicate with himself.
  10. I'd write a letter saying you had gone inside to get change for the vacuum. What an utter bullshit fine. On a slightly different note, this is interesting: http://www.trafficlaw.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538 Seems those "pay for" car parks with no attendants or gates are pretty much useless for the owner. Park there for free, and simply ignore the threats which roll in.
  11. Care to elaborate? Oh, and it's "their"
  12. What's wrong with, oh, I don't know, an RB26dett? I've heard they are pretty good engines, too.
  13. Ummm, no, no they are not. Unless, of course, you know better than the factories who built them. S15 - 120Kw 1200kg - factory figures VY Commonwhore - 1522kg - 152kw - factory figures R34 coupe - 140kw or 147kw - turbo is 1410kg so I did take a stab and estimate around 1350kg and used Wikipedia for the power. So, apart from the R34, the spec are correct and I think it's fair to say the R34 specs are pretty damn close to correct.
  14. 400kw=540hp. Allow 15% for "happy dyno fun times" and there's your drive train loss.
  15. I'd simply ignore it. Wait until you get a letter of demand from his insurance.
  16. Anyone know if this is still for sale?
  17. I agree. I love the "some guy made a motor which ran on rainbows and unicorn dreams but some nasty oil company bought it and then destroyed all the plans and hid the remains in a vault buried in the center of the earth." It's crap. There are no significant engine developments which aren't well int he public domain. We're seeing companies starting to lay the foundations for post-oil. Some are going hydrogen (Honda) some electric (GM) some Hybrid (Toyota).
  18. Oil lines is nothing. I think the 25/30 combo has been done so many times it's very easy to find someone who knows exactly what needs to be done. The advantage of buying a second hand head now is you can prep it while still having your car on the road. Buy the head, have it cleaned, decked, polished, new seats, valves and springs and then do the required mods for the 30 block. Bolt it all together and then in a single weekend you can have the old donk out and the 25/30 installed. That way your car isn't off the road for 3 weeks while the head does the rounds. And you can then sell the complete 25 as a long motor and recoup your head costs. If you can afford the $400-500 for the head it's the best way to go by a long way.
  19. You can pick up a long motor for like $50. Try and find a 25 head (~$500) then spend ~$5-8k rebuilding it and prepping a 25 head and you'll have tough 25/30 ready to drop in. Be likely cheaper than a 26 and will munch it. My kingdom for a 25/30!
  20. Rebuild an RB30 and put your RB25 head on it. Make an easy 300kw with plenty of room for more. It'll likely be cheaper than a 26 and eat a 26.
  21. Stick with an i5 2500k and save about $70. Photoshop only uses physical cores so hyperthreading is useless (altho I'm not sure about Lightroom [upon checking I don't think it does so another reason to go the i5]). An OC'ed i5 will outperform an i7. Put the $70 and a touch more towards a SSD. It'll be the single best thing you can do to improve your PC performance. You'll likely need a ~120gb SSD ($200) because you'll want to put your OS, Photoshop and Lightroom on it.
  22. I'm sure some f**kwit will fly from Cali to Melbourne so he can get one 17 hours early.
  23. Gee, hold an extra ~3psi boost all the way to redline and that thing will be even pokier! 260 at the top is a bloody nice figure, especially for an auto. Autos are great for responsiveness, but they lack the all important fun pedal The "dynamic" SS1PU seems a little "why bother?" Unless my eyes are deceiving me, it's brought the boost on 400rpm earlier but lost >30kw off the top? I know which I'd rather
  24. And how many donkey powers is the vehicle making?
