I might meet you guys at Lilydale. Anyone else from the North/North East want to meet me somewhere then hook up with the main bunch @ Lilydale?

I put a set of Iridiums I had kicking about in at the same time. Compression test can go root a boot. I'll do that if I ever have any concerns that it might be down. The car doesn't get driven hard enough or often enough for me to want to do a preventative comp test.

Diagnosis Rb: Wha'ts The %#^$Ing Problem?
Cowboy1600 replied to Cowboy1600's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
As an addendum to this, I have just got around to changing the coilpacks and the car is now "fixed". It was still missing at times under load and I couldn't mash the throttle or it would go spastic. Whacked in a new set of YJs and iridiums today and it's running flawlessly. Absolutely perfect. I can mash it any gear, any revs and there's no whoa, just go and it bangs to the limiter again. The damn thing flies. Now it's going flat out I reckon it is quicker than my 33. Lights up the rears easier (when in 2wd) and it has 245s Feddy RSRs vs 235s chinshongs on the 33. I'm a happy camper. -
Yeeeeehaaaaa! My problem is fixed and for the first time since I have owned the car (nearly 10 months) it's running flawlessly. I pump it up to 11psi and floor it and it just pulls. Here's hoping you get the same results.

It's not too hard to get at the coils. Mine arrived today but I had them delivered to work...and I work from home on Wednesdays.... I got one of the guys I work with to bring them home as he only lives 10 minutes away so I get em at about 630. They should be in by 8. Also a tip, leave the valley cover off. That way you don't have to stuff around with it every time you want to change your plugs.

Nowhere does it say you have to remove belts or anything, but I would assume you would be doing this anyway.

[quote name=ClutchBurndout-' timestamp='1326786705' post='6192170] coilpacks my worry is, why wouldnt he fix it himself? some lecky tape around the coilpacks is a quick fix... why would you sell a car with issues? Cause he didn't know what the issue was? Not everyone knows what causes a misfire in Skylines.

Damn straight. Shoulda seen the speed I could punt my 2L Datsun 1600 along at. It probably had a whopping 80hp at the wheels but pretty much nothing could stick to it once corners were introduced. TBH that car is still the most fun car I've ever driven. I'd give just about anything to have it back... My opinion to the OP, leave it as is, spend as little as possible on it. Every dollar saved now is a dollar you can put towards something with potential once you are off your Ps.

Well, I'll let you know how the YJs go for me.
-
Have you considered that perhaps the ones which "only use 1 bolt and sit slightly angled" weren't the correct ones for an RB?
-
Well I have almost the exact same problems and have just ordered a set of YJs so I'll let you know how they go. Assuming I get them in the next day or two, they will be in by the weekend.

I dunno about that. It's saved my bacon numerous times. I'd charmed my way out of three speeding tickets because the officer had the discretion to not fine me. That said, I also got done for a burnout because an officer had the discretion to fine me with no evidence. So it can cut both ways (I'm still pro-discretion at this stage). What's also interesting is my three let-offs were all in Vic and my burnout was in NSW. The HWP in NSW are notoriously cun7awful.

My mistake, site working fine! I wasn't, however Set ordered.

Because you predict the fix will be easy? My Stag had a misfire when I bought it. It caused a few minor headaches at first, but nothing major. I still haven't solved it, but I'm fairly sure it's the coilpacks.

Gimmie gimmie gimmie -
Wondering if anyone had a set of known working RB25 neo coils they might be able to loan me for a week. I'm fairly sure my issues are coil related but I'm not sure how to test them other than swapping them. I don't want to shell out $500 for a new set if that's not the problem. Happy to mark them (so you know which are yours) and also leave a bond in case I do a runner There's a six pack of Bundy cans, Jimmy cans or Boags St George in it for you if you can assist. Anyone? Alternatively, if anyone is able to tell me how to test coils (definitively) I'd be ever so grateful. Oh, I'm in Hurstbridge but am happy to travel anywhere in metro Melb to pick up. Gizz call/SMS on 0418 994 629 or PM moi.

And back in the day FIAT would sometimes build a car which didn't break down every second day. Just because some come out good, doesn't mean there isn't an issue. I have no experience with oil pumps on RBs, so am just speaking from what I have read here, but with so many apparent failures, there is likely an issue. It seems like there is quite a high failure rate on N1s which people using other brands do not suffer. It's a bit like when SSDs first started appearing en masse a few years ago. Failure rates were up around 10-15% which was considered unacceptably high. Sure, 85-90% of people had no problems, but there was still an issue. That failure rates have drop to around 5% on most brands suggest it's being worked on. So just because you (and others) haven't had any problems, doesn't mean there aren't any.

R33 Gtst Series 2 Oem Genuine Coil Packs
Cowboy1600 replied to 2BNJYD's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Out of interest, they are not suitable for Neo RB25s, are they? -
Doh! Thanks Myself and a few of my friends are in the market for new bikes. I shall check it out. Unfortunately a few others have already bought bikes recently - would have been good to direct them to Ribbed as they all spent between $2k and $5k.

Out of interest, what do you sell?

Wow! Didn't see that coming. No Lambo though *sadfayse That was cool.

"affordable" Cars With A Dsg?
Cowboy1600 replied to Snowman's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Interesting you call them a POS. Have you driven one? You'll do hard to find a more fun car for the money. A seriously good bit of kit, even if it is FWD. -
With what little I know of M35s, I'd say $17k would be what you ask, as is, if you needed a quick sale. Obviously you know your situation better than I, but do the sums carefully. Is liquidating the Stag the most cost effective way to inject some cash into your business? You are no doubt going to end up way out of pocket as you won't get back nearly what you have put into it. Add in the costs of selling and then one day buying another and I'm willing to predict there are much more cost effective ways to source some cash, such as a Line of Credit or Personal Finance or something to that effect. Worst case is you can always sell the Stag later if things do not pick up and you need to cover the LoC. A personal loan will cost you principal + say 10% if it takes you a year to square it off. That's $1000. Are you going to lose more than that by selling the Stag? I'll predict yes, by a lot. But, again, you obviously know your situation much, much better than I (as I know nothing about your individual circumstance).
