I assume, based on this thread, you've never driven a Stag with a solid shifter.
Not all cars are the same. Save your cash. By all mean shorten the shift, but don't go for a solid.
And shorter and solid actually making shifting harder as you need to push the level harder due to less leverage and also have to be much more precise due to the solid.
I'm loathe to say they are shit, but it's not far from the truth.
