Depends whether the car is encumbered. If it's from GE Money, then it's likely that the loan is secured against the car. If iw34 pays all the money to the previous owner, he/she can go piss it up against a wall and then default on the loan. When GE comes looking for the car there's nothing stopping them taking it from the new owner and no onus on the previous owner to pay anything back. Most cars are bought with an unsecured loan which means the lender has no claim on the car and will go after the debt holder specifically, not the vehicle with which the finance was used to purchase, however it sounds like in this case the car is encumbered. At a guess I'd say defari doesn't actually understand the situation. Iw34 isn't paying the guys loan for him, he's paying out the remaining amount on the loan and then paying the difference to the previous owner. So a $50k car with $25k outstanding means a $25k cheque to GE and a $25k cheque to the previous owner. The car is now purchased and no longer encumbered.

This. I've got an eBoost 2 on my Stag with 7psi and 12psi settings. The only reason it doesn't live on 12 is because it's missing at the moment, otherwise it'd be there all the time, regardless of who was driving. I had a Turbotech valve on my R33. If the Stag didn't have the eBoost I would go another one, without doubt. Different settings is a wank unless you're going from "drivable" to "drag" or something like that.

Or you could get a japper for the same price with more features and 100+kw and a few seconds quicker to 100.

Corolla, Focus, 3, i30, Tiida (f**king stupid name that I believe is soon to be replaced by Pulsar again [yay!]), Civic, Lancer. There's not a bad one amongst them. Spend a weekend test driving them all then pick the one you (she) liked best. You can't go wrong with any of them. They are a lot cheaper than the Euros, have nearly as many features and will be cheaper to run and more reliable (noting 10+ years ownership).

Pretty much any of the small hatches from Ford, Holden or one of the Jap brands. Price wise/feature wise you could throw a hanky over the lot. It's really a matter of which one does she like the look of better. Go test drive a few. If I had to pick, however, it'd probably be a Festiva. There's absolutely no need to spend upwards of $25k (in fact you should get change from $20k). I'd avoid the Euro brands. Hybrid's are bullshit heavy and slow and not particularly fuel efficient. Lexus make great cars, but big money for a runabout, even with 21% off. Recently I've driven an i30, Focus, Corolla, ix35, Dualis and a few others (Mrs is looking for a new car) and it's hard to find a bad one. The Focus was dynamically superior to the others, but cost more and in reality, for my wife, not really required. Go test drive a metric shitload and buy the one which you gelled with the most.

I'm at nearly 400ks for this current tank and it's getting damn close to fuel light time. I reckon I'll just nick 400 when it comes on. I would expect better for the driving I do (works out to be around 15l/100ks). Mostly suburb driving. Still haven't figured out what my crappy miss is. Starting to lean towards coil packs. Might try gapping my plugs down and see if that helps a bit.
