The exact reason he bought it, brand new, was as an investment. Hence why it was hidden and hence why it was not driven. He knew the value of it when time came to insure it, hence why he was so secretive. And what about the old bloke in England who hide a Jag XJ220 behind a false wall in his home? Did he do it cause he only drove it occasionally? People DO buy cars, sometimes new, as investments and it was no secret that the Phase III was going to be a classic. The Phase IV had been essentially banned thanks to the "Supercar" scare which meant, at the time, many people thought this was going to be the last ever muscle car made in Australia. Phase IIIs were not mass produced cars, hence their rarity back then and rarity today and they are arguably the most sought after car ever built in Australia.

Heh, I have a Gnome lock on Frostmourne. We used to go there when Daggerspine would crash. He's in a guild called "Daggerspine Down".

I've got Triangles...they are awesome! (Ok, so you can't see the dumbass look on my face right now). Actually they aren't super bad, especially for a cheapo tyre. Apparently they are a no-name Bridgestone tyre.

I haven't read his other threads, but I think he's got a raw deal in this one. He asked a simple question and got a stupid answer IMO. He never actually asked about his ECU. That was brought up by someone else, even tho the OP pleaded for people to forget about the ECU and answer his original question. And while it might not be ideal, AFAIK a Mines ECU is more or less a modified factory ECU which to me would mean it would be as good as, if not better than, protecting your engine as a standard ECU (assuming a few mods have been made). And "safe" AFRs is a pretty good start when it comes to making sure your engine is going to be ok. Again, not perfect, but I doubt it would be any worse than a stock ECU.

And how wroooooooooooong you would be. I got done for Dangerous Driving back in 1997. The Magistrate let me off on what's called a Section 556a but on the condition I went to a driver education course for one night a week for six weeks. Each week we would have a different person come in a talk to us about some different topic. ie, one guy in a wheelchair came and spoke to us about how he crashed when pissed one night which gave him permanent brain damage and killed two girls. On the last week a guy from the NRMA came in. After the session I was having a chat with him. He was a real car nut. He had a Bolwell Nagari among other things. More interesting than the Bolwell was a story he told me a story about a mate of his who works in the NRMAs speciality insurance arm. His mate had been contacted by an old bloke who had a pretty special car that he wanted insured. The old bloke was really cagey but after a half a dozen phone calls he eventually got to the point. He had a car that he wanted insured and was now comfortable enough with the insurance guy to take him and show it to him. So the old bloke picked up the insurance guy and drove him out to a shed in the middle on no where (somewhere in Northern NSW). Inside the shed was a Phase III with 12 miles on the clock. I've heard a couple of other stories over the years that makes me believe this to be true. I remember rumours of Ford offering some guy a couple of million for a special car he had just before their 50th birthday. They wouldn't say which car and were apparently knocked back. This guy doesn't want/need the cash but wants to pass the car onto his son or something. So I say you are wrong. There are many people out there with the foresight to do things like this. I know my Dad tried his hardest to hang onto his 105e Anglia that he used to race back in the 60s. Unfortunately money go the better of him and he had to sell but he knew it was rare and would be worth a bit one day. He was right.

That's one of the funniest things I think I've ever heard....today. In its day the Phase III was as quick, or quicker, than the big dollar "Supercars" around at the time ie, Lambos and Fezzas. A 450hp 351, 4 speed Toploader and Detroit 9 inch. 6 second 0-100 and 14 second quarters which were, in its day, mind numbingly fast, especially in a bloody 4 door family car. On top of that it could do 500 miles around one of the worlds greatest race tracks under racing conditions and win. Imagine a BA Falcon able to run down a F430 or Gallardo straight from the factory. That's what we are talking about here. That thing is worth every bit of it's asking price. A cars value isn't simply related to it's ability. If it is for you then why are you driving a Skyline? There are faster cars available for the same or less money so why do you not have one of those?

Do want! In 17' -
That's all fine and well, if E85 was even slightly common, but there's all of about 3 servos in Melbourne that sell E85 making it pretty darn impractical. I like the idea of a Skyline GTST on LPG as a daily driver. Let's take high performance requirements out of the equation and talk in daily duty terms. Pros and cons of running a daily Skyline on LPG?

I reckon you'll find sourcing an SR20-DET block or complete engine probably easier than you expect. Heck, find one in Melb or Sydney and I'll help you arrange reliable and affordable transport to Mackay.

Another idea is you like steak. Squire's Loft City - 12 Goldie Pl, Melbourne - (03) 9670 7317 Faaaaaaarking amazing..... and the ribs are orgasmic. Bank on around $50-$70 each for a great feed.

Bhoj in Templestowe if you like Indian. That place has won more awards than you could possibly imagine, and for good reason. The food is amazing. http://www.bhoj.com.au/

SR20de+t has been done before many times, and done very successfully, but if you are going to go to so much effort and expense, surely just picking yourself up an SR20DET ready to go would be a better option?

Got A Question About Cops, The Law, And Criminals/druggies
Cowboy1600 replied to eMsta's topic in Victoria
Tell me again why you needed the police there? I would have thought an ambulance and tow truck would suffice. -
Generally, 100mph is a flat 14 in a 1500kg street car. Did you have traction issues? I'll be surprised if you really are getting over 200kW at the wheels. I'll bet it's more like 170ish which would make your time about smack on the money. If you do have 220kW then you must have been spinning hard off the line. Try lower tyre pressures and a big smokey burnout to get some heat into em. But then if you were spinning off the line you would likely have a faster trap speed for a flat 14, so I reckon you just don't have the power that you thought you did.

2530. Cheaper, easier, ever reliable and 300kW should be a doodle and it should be a torque monster.
-
All this talk of RPM vs load vs PSI is making me dizzy. Here's one for the tuners out there with a dyno. Strap a car car down and do a full power run through all the gears and post the results. I'd like to see power, torque and manifold pressure. It would help to paint a clearer picture of how a turbo car makes power in relation to boost, RPM and load. Anyone willing and able? EDIT: Im happy to donate my car for a few hours if required too - r33 GTST with FMIC, exhaust and pod - everything else stock.

Got A Question About Cops, The Law, And Criminals/druggies
Cowboy1600 replied to eMsta's topic in Victoria
This is pretty much the only language a f**king monkey like this guy understands. If the coppers know him so well then I can tell you they won't be bothering about trying to track down who it was that beat the shit out of him. Altho, I too would begin by calling the cops. -
I'm gunna bet he wants to make a jungle juice for his car but he isn't fully aware of the ins and outs of using toluene.

Hmmm, looking at the Nistune website again it would seem that I have got their pricing a bit confused. I was under the impression that they were about $300 more than they actually are. That markedly improves their cost effectiveness.
-
Try looking thru a few pages of for sale adds. They pop up fairly regularly and range in price from $800-$1500 which suggests to me you should be able to get one at around the $1000 mark.
-
When you take into account the cost of another compatible ECU and the work required to install the daughter board, it's not quite as great as what most people think. A Power FC can be had for $1000 with hand controller. Nistune is around $500 before ECU ($250+) and installation (~$250+).

If you drive like a wanker you'll get pulled over. And if you get pulled over for driving like a wanker the cops will ping you for something regardless. If yoou don't drive like a wanker and you car "appears" pretty stock, they will leave you be. Even if they look under the bonnet, they won't go to extraordinary lengths to suss out your turbo, injectors and the like - unless you have been driving like a wanker. Either high flow your current turbo or get one that is bolt on and looks pretty stock. The coppers won't care....unless you drive like a wanker.
