Want To Use A 1970 Gtr For Wedding Car
ido09s replied to AAA34T's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
There is a guy on JDM Style Tuning with one in Sydney thats regoed and gets driven regularly. His name escapes me at the moment but its worth a try. I would almost guarantee he would do it for small fee -
I think the fuel required to support 40psi is a little beyond a street car

Where are you from? If your in Sydney take it into MTQ in Wetherill Park, they are cheaper than GCG, and try a genuine Garrett housing on the manifold. It wont be the manifold as the flange is a standard sizing. The housing needs some dents in the corners to accomodate the nuts. You might fix it by grinding this housing, but you might stuff it also, so its not worth trying until you confirm if there is an alternative that works properly Or as someone else just said you could drill the threads out and use nuts and bolts but to me its still not right. Its much easier and less hassle to be able sit the turbo on a couple of studs and use only lock washers and nuts. Call me fussy or silly or whatever you want. i like to build cars that are easy to work on and nuts and bolts when studs should do the job is just silly

Kyle does some awesome work but every now and then i think he loses the plot and just tries to hard to help you out, which unfortunately ends up back firing. A few years back we ordered an RB26 manifold to suit an R33 GTR. We made the unfortunate mistake of telling him that it was going into an S14 and he sent us something that he thought would suit the conversion. Turned out the turbo hit the bonnet as the turbo was way to far forward and it would also force us to have a custom dump pipe made. He then wanted pics and things to try and rectify it which we werent interested in, we just wanted an R33 manifold as we knew they worked. We could also use a stock GTR dump pipe to suit the turbo when the turbo was in the standard position as it fits quite easily when doing an RB26 S14 conversion We ended up getting it sorted but it took some convincing to just get him to send us a stock position manifold. I would send it back to him and ask for a refund. He cant deny you the refund as anyone with half mechanical knowledge would agree thats just not right. Just get the proper Garrett housing. I have learnt that trying to save a penny here and there just ends up in tears a lot of the time and to do the job with minimal fuss is easier when you spend a bit more cash on the correct matching part, in this case a Garrett housing

Is ATP some sort of budget brand or something? Clearly all they are good for is a paper weight. Honestly, i wouldnt have even bothered trial fitting that as its clear as day that its never going to work properly. Surely ATP could see that I would send it back with the pics you have above and demand my money back. Go get a housing made by someone who knows what they are doing I just found the ATP website.... seems they love their EVO's and Subapoo's

What exhaust housing is that you are using? That looks so dodgy and is never going to be able to bolted up properly without some crafty ingenuity

Has anyone got readouts from baffle plates as last time i made one it didnt make that much difference.... Does putting one hole in the centre work or does it need to be several smaller holes to work properly?
-
I dont disagree that it doesnt work, it was more the wear if it still had preload of some sort, which i thought it still had. The hoist is the ultimate test though and if the wheels dont budge it obviously disables the transfer case totally. I guess having worked for a workshop and being trusted with peoples pride and joy my boss didnt want to take any chances. Dropping the driveshaft was the safest way to tune the car and it totally eliminated ANY possibility of the front wheels kicking in
-
When was the last time you changed the transfer case oil? What did it look/smell like? 5% isnt a lot but i dont know that i would want to do it every day. I would compare it to driving around with your brake pedal on 5%. See how long the brake pads/discs take to wear out. Even with 5% it will be wearing the clutch packs out prematurely.

That link refers to NSW plates so WA could very well be different. In NSW we cant sell plates like that you can only sell them attached to a car. That sounds like its the same in WA
-
IIRC the transfer case on a 33/34 never totally disengages so you would need to drop the shaft to avoid damage/premature wear to the transfer case

The engine will give you the answer. We have tried tuning lean with minimal timing but running it at low 11's with more timing doesnt make much difference to our car. A richer tune will leave more room for safety unless its on the ragged edge with timing. Most RB's i have seen that are running 20+psi have always liked to be tuned in the mid to low 11's

Autosol or some sort of car polish normally works well. I have also heard of people using tooth paste but i have never seen the results.

R33 Gtst Clutch On An R32 Gtst?
ido09s replied to nismor32gtst's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yes it will fit. 33GTR will not due to it being a pull type. Unless it has been converted to a pull type clutch, all 33GTST's are push type from the factory -
An even better way would be to leave the wire in tact and run some blades into the fuse position. I have done it that way before and the blades never fell out. Saves pulling the car apart and cutting the wiring. Also allows you to return it to stock with no evidence that you have been out flogging the ass off it in 2WD Only sort of downfall is that you will need to run a fuse in this wiring but thats not that hard. A proper fuse holder doesnt cost much and can be tucked away under the dash without to many issues From memory you still need to switch the car off and restart it to enable the 4WD system to work again.... its been a few years since i have done this mod In a 33 GTS4/GTR, 34GTR you will need to remove the front driveshaft as the 4WD system works differently

The hold time is a joke but honestly they are the only people who can answer questions like that. I always get a name as well in case the story changes when you get there. The name wont do much but with any luck it will get the person some more training and allow them to give the correct information next time someone calls them
-
Why dont you ring them and ask lol
-
I am guessing these are NSW issue plates? You do realise these plates cant be sold in NSW lol Only full custom plates can be sold. http://www.myplates.com.au/support/faq.html#Ownership Can I transfer my plates or give them to a friend? Only Personalised Plus number plates or numeral-only number plates can be transferred, and a transfer fee will apply. All other number plates are transferable only to family members, de facto couples, between vehicles owned by the same company or between companies and employees.

Its got nothing to do with repair times and everything to do with getting defected cars off the roads. We should think ourselves lucky they give us time to even drive the car home as most cars could probably be put off the road on the spot for one reason or another and be forced to tow them home
-
What sort of car is it? GTR or GTS? 2 or 4 wheel drive? as they are both very different

Selling 449Kw Setup
ido09s replied to grygtr's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
It is possible We had these turbo's on the Bright Print race car on BP Ultimate making about 450rwkw. It wouldnt have been running any more than 24psi as we never liked running any more boost on pump fuel. We use to dyno that car on semi slicks as well which will always chew up a few kw. Was far from a standard head but it will do it. You just need someone who knows what they are doing with a dye grinder -
mad, i am certain it wasnt a Giant Concept store in VIC. And the store i was comparing it with from Sydney was MCC who now also own the Giant concept store in Sydney. You can have a look yourself now. Jump on www.bikeexchange.com.au and take a look at the discounts offered in VIC v's NSW. I agree with anything under rrp being a good price but when you have one state discounting by so much, and then another state offering nowhere near the same it becomes a bit frustrating. It was an XTC 29er i was after. VIC price, $1699. Cheapest i could get one in Sydney was about $2100 and thats a considerable difference in price. It wasnt a run out, and it wasnt anywhere near the end of the year or the new model coming out either.
