I had heard that it was going to be a more difficult process than that for imports. I spoke to an inspector and he advised new rules meant another engineering certification along with stringent requirements? that scared me off last time and I just got it re-regoed to avoid any nightmares like that... I'll provide an update once I hear back from RMS.

So I'm thinking about letting the rego expire on my GTR and storing it for a few years. With two other vehicles, and another in the build I'm just not driving it and it's sitting in the car capusal until rego time. I've queried the RMS about expired rego and awaiting a response - anyone had experience trying to re-rego after a few years? I'm not interested in selling it, but thinking the $700+ on rego alone is expensive for one day! Thoughts?

Purchasing Parts From O/s Duty & Gst Change
DAN00H replied to DAN00H's topic in Australian Capital Territory
Gee, eye-opening to see the amount of friendly people we have here on the SAU 'community'. I post something to inform and people want to shoot me down in flames. I don't come here to be judged keyboard warriors, so - up yours. I'm not interested in being on a forum with sh1tbags thinking they can make calls about people they do not know. Time to close the thread - it isn't going anywhere useful. -
Purchasing Parts From O/s Duty & Gst Change

yes - you are correct. it will cost more to administer than what is collected (apparently $500 is the balance point, below that and it is costing more. go figure) -
Purchasing Parts From O/s Duty & Gst Change
DAN00H replied to DAN00H's topic in Australian Capital Territory
it is LVT (low value threshold), so applies irrespective of where it originates from. if currently under $1000 then no duty/ gst - but will change. -

As I mentioned above, you can still get things from O/S - it is just going to cost more for the privilege. -
Purchasing Parts From O/s Duty & Gst Change

Sorry, no - gifts and 2nd hand still subject to valuation and GST/ Duty. I'm not a big poster and don't post for the 'fun' of it. don't like what I say - then ignore it. As for a link, see my post above, policy is being finalised and therefore not yet realised. I heard yesterday arvo. Remember when all the retailers (especially HN) were ranting about $1000 imports killing business??? This is the result and why they are now quiet! (read - they got what they wanted, which was a reduction in the low value threshold - you can google the history) -
Purchasing Parts From O/s Duty & Gst Change
DAN00H replied to DAN00H's topic in Australian Capital Territory
now, now - don't be judgemental... I will overlook your rudeness as an unmetered emotional response. Where I work doesn't matter, suffice to say the policy is being written now. This was an initive of the former (labour) Government and one that was already in the works and commited to when the current Government took office. I don't like it anymore than you do, as I make purchases from O/S, it will impact me as well. You will still be able to import from O/S, however you will just pay more and the revenue collected by the States (not Fed Gov). if you are not interested, or don't like what I have to say - don't comment. -

guess where I work... PM if you want further clarification -
Hi All Not sure if anyone is already aware, but the $1000 duty free threshold (where you don't pay any GST or import duty on items costing less than $1000) is due to change at the end of this year. 2015 will see the threshold drop to $200 and 2016 it will be $0. If you are thinking of getting parts in for a project or anything up-to $1000, it is best done this year if you want to avoid the Duty/ GST (anything from $225 upwards) plus additional cost of actually lodging an import declaration ($50 - $95+). cheers Dan00h

batteries can explode, step father was a bolier maker by trade and that was rule number 1 when working on vehicles. I heard it happen on a quad bike once at Goulburn tafe - some guys were doing a quick repair, when off like a bomb... seat was on, but still it made a mess. -

Did you tack the welds with the bar in place on the car? I only ask as I noticed the battery terminals were still connected - should be disconnected if welding. -

really depends on what your power goal is and what ECU you have if using PULP 98 and an aftermarket ECU SARD injectors can be had for a lot less - around $600 (or so) for the 750cc versions good for 370-400kw range Pump - best will be a nismo/ hks/ sard etc intank replacement for ease of fitment, price is anywhere from $300 - $700 depending on where you get it. these will see you to ~ 350-370kw at the wheels if you intend using E85, you will need much bigger injectors (reading these forums shows some are running 1200cc units!), in that case you are better off with the bosch pump (or two) and perhaps even getting a surge tank setup with the stock pump as a lifter pump for the surge tank. I run a moderate 300kw at the rears on a modded ECU with HKS intank and stock GTR injectors (which must bge close to max duty cycle!). I am yet to install the bigger injectors, PFC, Z32's, FPR, Poncams, and carbon twin plate (how much power can you really use on the street??? 300 is a lot to get you moving with good response in a car that now weighs 1350kg). turbos will be a limiting factor (I run HKS GT2530's on 14 - 20psi). my mods are by todays standards pretty old school (2530's, PFC, z32's etc), but I'm not after huge outputs. look at the 26 dyno results for your desired power goal and see what others are running in terms of what you should look to do. just remember if you go big - you will need to do the bottom end to support the increase in power (along with drivetrain upgrades). to get a comfortable 300+ from an otherwise stock GTR you can easily spend 7-10k or more.
