  1. I would like to know this also. Not that I want to run the Apexi BCK, but rather take a boost signal into the PFC for display on the HC and for logging on my Datalogit.
  2. On mine: A = 16mm B = 11mm
  3. Actually I think that the insurance company won't come ouy so bad on this. Redbook values are quite low and I imagine that as spare parts (engine, interior, pannels etc) it would be worth quite a bit to prestige wreckers. See extract from Redbook AU: Red Book Code BENT89AB 1989 BENTLEY EIGHT Sedan 4dr Auto 3sp 6.8i Trade in price guide* $24,600 - $29,600 National average price - private sale* $30,100 - $37,700 Price when new (RRP) $261,626
  4. Yep, no problems - especially when you say it all quickly (i.e. full HKS 2.8L kit, STEP PRO cams and valve train to suit, FCON V, etc.). Other "minor/incidentals" such as intercooler, plenum, injectors, fuel system, exhaust manifold, wastegate, full exhaust system, flywheel, multiplate clutch, upgraded gearbox etc are of course, a given. How does the old saying go? "Speed is money - how fast do you want to go?"
  5. We have have seen a silimar phenomena when fitting a larger inlet cam. By going from a 264 to a 272 duration on the inlet and spending more time on the dyno adjusting cam timing, we were able to achieve earlier boost response, significantly better top end AND at a lower boost pressure. Both cams are now 272 STEP 2 HKS items. Other specs as per the RB26 Turbo Upgrade Sticky
  6. From the album: Gav's Gallery

  7. Hey Paul not back until mid Jan, but just some feedback from the tuner and others that have driven the R since the most recent tune and gearbox/tranny case rebuild. Running an OS cross mission gearset in a rebuilt R33 box. Won't be buying anything until I've had a chance to look at how it is in real life and perhaps what I can do with boost delivery and/or ATTESSA controller. Cheers Gav
  8. I guess it had to happen. The combination of: "Adequate" power (578 rwhp) Good torque (HKS 2.8L kit) Sudden power delivery (GT-RS terbs) Rebuilt transfer case Low ratio diff gears (GTS-4 CW&P) is now resulting in some serious torque steer when coming on boost. I'm thinking that a front LSD (say 1.5 way) will improve things, however will this adversely affect steering? "Plan B" may be to adjust how boost and torque split is delivered? I have a dual solenoid boost controller fitted and Duncan's ETS controller available (not fitted yet). Thoughts and recommendations?
  9. Series 1 is heavier and contains more lugs to attach the chain to, therefore a much better boat anchor. QED
  10. Remember to disable the Windows swap file - repeated writing to the flash card will destroy it in a matter of days/weeks. I have an article somewhere on setting up "solid state" computers which highlights this. There is also a severely cut down version of Windows 98 (Winlite or something along those lines) which is shareware/freeware. Very interesting - keep us posted!
  11. The pop is most likely backfiring (ignition of the unburnt fuel in exhaust pipe) from ignition failure in one or more cylinders. My guess is also on coil packs not providing enough voltage (resistance across the plug gap is greatest under peak load). Try borrowing a good coil for someone and substituting one at a time. Could also be a cracked insulator on a spark plug or cracked plugs on the coil pack harness. Also check that the harness ground lug is clean, connected properly and grounded tightly.
  12. If you get "crack testing" done, make sure you know exactly what type of tests will be performed. Personally I would only recommend x-ray testing as magnetic particle testing, although cheaper, isn't as reliable for detecting stress fractures on for complex shapes like rods.
  13. You're correct. It was really a case of negotiating with the guy at the delivery centre when I picked it up. They seem to have a fair bit of discretion if you can supply a convincing arguement. You win some and lose some I guess.
  14. Slightly off topic, but interesting none the less. Unfortunately I have lost the relevant codes, but when I imported my turbos I submitted a claim that I was importing two "air compressor" units. These are import tax exempt items. Whilst the "spirit" of this tax exemption is for refridgeration gas compressors (i.e. encouraged the use or conversion to "green" refridgerants), the wording was such that it could not be disputed that automotive turbine compressors fell into this catagory. I was still liable for the 10% GST, however.
  15. New or used? Any plugs cracked?
  16. Ummm......you didn't confirm what car this is for. Will these fit my 1992 Hyundai Excel?
  17. You beat me to it - definately find out the root cause of the failure and certainly check the other terb carefully before assuming it's OK as well.

  21. You can significantly reduce shock on the drivetrain (gearbox, rear diff and driveshafts) by preloading using the handbrake. As Duncan says, slip the clutch to the limit of what the handbrake can hold and then floor the throttle whilst releasing the handbrake. If you get the timing right, you are just finished releasing the handbrake when it's time to snatch second. I then like to get both hands on the wheel to help counter the impending torque steer.
  22. You've "heard" a lot of bunkas
  23. As a long shot, how about the Cima S-Four? This was a VH41 sedan equipped with ATTESSA. You'll probably find a stack of these diff centres stocked at your nearest Hen's Teeth supplier, however lol
