Hard To Idle After Turbo Install
32vspec2gtr replied to FordyR31's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The tune could be the issue for the fact that the turbo could be a bigger restriction on the intake side hence snuffing the engine because the turbo is trying to effectively stall and the engine can't breath enough through the intake hence why it stalls. Would be unlikely but possible. As said before, it sounds more like vac lines of some sort allowing it to gain air that it doesn't relise it has hence leaning out and stalling. Check ALL piping (before turbo, after turbo and even manifold, even if you haven't been there as you could have bumped it off) as even a leak from a clamp not been done up can suck air through which the engine doesn't know it has. It will idle when cold due to the engine automatically enriching the engine till it gets to temp. Effectively counter acting the air in the system it doesn't even know about. When it gets to temp it leans back out and stalls for been too lean. You could have gotten oil from the filter if its an oil based filter onto the air flow meter even, or simply it could have gotten dirty while installing the turbo as you only need to get a little bit of crap on it to make dramas. For this one, get some contact cleaner (yes contact cleaner not brake clean or anything else) from super cheap/ autobarn/ etc for a couple of bucks and clean the fine wire in the center of the airflow meter where the air passes over. Give that ago to start with. Matt -
Hey guys, I'm chasing an rb26 engine for my gtr. Preferably something from a late model 32 and up. Price is depending on what it has with it and has done to the engine. If you have one forsale, please pm me with any details you have of it. Eg. Turbos, injectors, what power it was making, how many k's, compression test, etc Thanks Matt

No dramas. If you need a hand, let me know. Will always be happy to get involved and try and improve things for all sides, including public, police and the car owners themselves. Have you set up a facebook page by anychance? Would be a good start I think. Have some video clips and photos, etc showing what the community is really about. Some good vids would be of something like the JDMST meets where they had the cruise and track day held in one. This would show that both yes we do like to meet up and cruise but we also like to use the cars on the track rather than the streets. Also try talking to nissan silvia, etc for other forums. Another idea you had is you could do a huge combined meet somewhere out of the publics way including all the honda, silvia, skylines, fords, holdens, etc and get a magazine such as HPI to shoot it. This would give you awesome coverage. Would have to get some of the well know members on board. Try talking to Tess from Mercury Motorsport as she does articles for them. Biggest thing with this is make it noted that the police would be notified and in presence on the day for people behaving irrisponsibly. This would further differentiate from the hoon versus car lover debate. -

Another thought is to get other car clubs involved and to get them to do the same sort of thing in regards to their meets, etc. Also maybe to try and help the tracks, etc lower the costs we could organise "working bee" days where people show up and help maintain the place rather than having to get people in and pay them to do it. As a reward, you could give the people involved free entry to one of the test and tunes events or something if it was say willowbank. Also if your going to do this you need to make it state wide and get everyone on board so you have the most effect. -

I'm keen to see this happen as well. Have you guys thought of getting places such as willowbank drag strip, queensland raceway, archerfield go cart track, harry's dinner, munchies, and other place that meets and events are held at all on board??? I'm sure these places would be willing to support as not only would willowbank, qr, etc tracks struggle to stay open they would have lost alot of support in terms of the major events as there wouldn't be as many enthusiasts interested in the sport meaning numbers would be down there as well. Inevitable these places would close. Same goes for Harry's dinner and munchies. With out the buisness these places would receive it would compromise thier cash flow serverly. Another thought I had could be to say have gold coin donations for meets and cruises more often and donate the funds to charities. This would change the image I feel as the general public would see enthusiasts as actually doing good rather than just a bunch of kids doing skids and hooning around loitering in carparks, etc. Also you could have a track day, in which you could invite some RTA certified inspectors along. Not the RTA themselves so to speak just the people who actually mod plate the cars. Let them charge say $40 a car to do a quick inspection and point out what is no compliant, what is perfectly acceptable and discuss with the owner what needs to be done to make the car legal. I can't see why they wouldn't want to do it as they would still be making money on the day for only labour really and it gives them an opportunity to make future cash through mod plating and rectifying the defects. This would also help with making the cars on the skylines aus forum/club legal and more acceptable in the eyes of the public. I can't see people been bothered with going out of their way to find out the info or organising to book the car in and drop it off/pick it up, etc to find out whats illegal and whats not unfortunately. And from all the enthusiasts on here and everywhere else At least someone is willing to give it ago to try and make things better rather than just winge about been done by the cops, etc. Matt -
Ha ha thats gold!!! I've had a cop argue with me that a blow off valve vents crank case pressure into the atmosphere. (even when plumbed back) Continued to agrue with me for about 30 minutes before saying "what would you know your just a stupid kid in his 20's who doesn't know any better!" To my reply, "I'm actually an engine building specialist by trade, have studied for 4 years to become it. So what qualifications do you have on the subject?" Shocked look on cops face, closes bonnet and tells me and my mate that he'll just give us a warning for the defective vehicle and that we have to get it rectified immediately. I asked what was defective so I could get it rectified and he just said to get it fixed and drove off. lol Mind you this was in my old Gtst which was pretty much standard. Normally I'm very polite to the police as I don't want to stir trouble. (been there done that, it doesn't work in your favour) But this cop was been a down right dick. I've been pulled over a couple of times in my gtr. Mostly by cops with gtrs themselves and you find that they just want to have a chat and see if its a real v-spec, which I mind about too much. I've even been broken down on a mountain run and had an unmarked car pull up and say that the driving I was doing was extremely impressive and glad to see that I take the car somewhere where it can be driven hard but in a safe area at a good time. (driven past them when they were pulled over earlier with a bit of pace around a corner at 4am in the morning but still under the speed limit, and not in a stupid area. lol) Had the bonnet up and all and they just had a chat with me and the chick I was with and looked around the car. Just for clarity sake, I was not "hooning" at the time and I don't endorce stupid driving on public streets. These were very tight corners on a road where you can see ahead and whats around the corners as you weave your way up the mountain. Most of the time you are lucky to take the corners at 40 even in a gtr. All in all you will get cops that will be cool, will just tolerate you but keep an eye on you and ones that will just want to destroy your existance. If you want a skyline, you have to accept that.

By the way has anyone thought of using a stepper motor, similar to those found on the intakes of some cars in reference to boost pressure? Just use the ecu to put out a Pulse width modulated signal in accordance to boost. You don't need to take it too full boost as its only when the engine is trying to begin to spool a turbine that takes the longest, so say if desired boost level is 24psi just make it full open at 14psi. By doing that you eliminate any of the issues with exhaust restrictions, boost spikes, etc as the system would be regulated via the wastegate. Realistically rpm wouldn't really matter as its only operating on boost pressure imo. Also the stepper motor running of a pulse width would be able to be opened gradually rather than straight open and shut

The only reason why you can't do that Nisskid is due to the fact that it would eliminate the purpose of having the twin scroll turbine housing as you wouldn't be able to block the center where the gas switches from one side to the other. You would how ever be able to run it like a standard v-band housing, even though you would be utilising a modified twin scroll housing and a divided manifold. Hows it going with this anyway? Any more results? Looking at doing this with my build in the near future.

Ah ok I thought you were doing more. All good

Stopped By Cops - Requested For Epa Compliance
32vspec2gtr replied to ihtasham's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I believe this is incorrect. Its not so much the ecu thats illegal. Its more to do with the fact that the car won't meet emissions requirements, which with a good tuner can be made to. Also another thing I have heard them say why the ecu is illegal is due to the fact that its no longer speed limited. With a good tuner and the emissions testing equipment you can make the car legal. I've seen a 400awk gtr meet and even exceed the emissions and noise tests much to our shock. ha ha. -
Any results yet Piggaz???? Would like to see what the difference is going to be.

Mate just because the g sensor indicator is showing ok doesn't mean that its working properly. The indicator is only a shock loading indicator and the sensor can still be faulty as this happened to me. Good luck with it anyway mate -
1991 R32 Gtr - Turbo's Stopped Working
32vspec2gtr replied to Methor's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Check that the wastegates haven't stuck open and are causing the turbos to not spool. As said above as well check that the cooler piping isn't split and that the cat isn't blocked. The next step is to drop the exhaust off the back of the turbos and as said check that the exhaust wheels are still there. Best of luck -
