Looks like a great build, do you know what pistons and clearance they are, and is the motor quiet when cold? -

AngryRB replied to Billy-ONDBAL's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Looks good mate, shame about the popo, I think either front end looks good, personally I don't like the big wheels cause you feel every bump in the road, the 19's looked pretty good though, my bro has same colour and has an awesome rear bumper I think yours would really come alive with , i'll try to find a pic of and send you, im gonna get same rear when can afford it... look up " Do-luck Kit For A R33 Gtr - Cosmetic, Styling & Resproay - SA by member F u r i o u s theres a silver GTR with great looking rear -
Is The Rb20 Det 2.4 Liter Upgrade Worth It?
AngryRB replied to yoshiii335's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
how long did the RB25 last at 450hp plus just out of interest and was it track or street? -
Has anyone fitted a VCM cam, on youtube "how to choose an LS camshaft for an auto with stock converter - VCM VCM 21 sounds porn.. Would a cam help to cut drone out and increase the deep throatie sound??
-
Bonnets like a mirror, nothing like a great paint job, its hard to go backwards with an RB , I have dreams of a 32GTR they look tough even after 25years.. good to see you've taken it out on track, mine hibernates in the shed waiting mods
-
Ok, thanks greg, I might just end up changing the catback to your sureflow and weigh up the 6L options.. newer is usually better Will have to see what I get for the DPE, ill be in touch..

Even if you had 400hp, trying to keep up with someone in an EVO is going to be a task, they probably full of mods too, you need to pull out a GTR to keep up with that... RB20 is the like a baby, bring out the Godzilla to get the job done lol... -
Thunder- I agree that buying a VZ would be a lot better, I don't have a lot of $$$ though and the ute only cost me 5K so just want to have some fun with it and keep it sensible ( I hope) and do it small step at a time. I actually prefer the older VU ute look, the VZ's seem quite plain looking and plastic inside, hmm I guess it does mount up though over time.... Still thinking about this catback wether it could sound a lot better with the sureflow or if changing the X pipe would make it sound better/deeper?? I think the rear resonator is whats making it sound droney at low revs and generally a bit quiet, stuffing around with the X pipe could turn into a waste of money though. Another thing is the cats that got fitted are 100cell , but I think they are a cheap brand, $140 for the 2, is it just a brand name or are all 100cell cats pretty much going to give the same sound????.

The smaller 1 5/8 4 into 1's that I got are pretty close to the power steering rack boots, they put a heatshield on, and doesn't hang down to bad, it would be legal id say... I've done 1500km's with the Di Filippo catback now, after a long drive on weekend it would have had plenty of heat in it, seems to develop of loud drone after a good hour which included some long hill climbs. I'm not sure about the amount of piston slap noises, the RB's are definitely a much nicer motor to modify and sound sweeter, i'll have to ask the exhaust shop to check for leaks, they probably slapped on the old manifold gaskets.. Its gone from sounding silent with stock manifold to sounding like a clapped out tractor at times.
-
Update- Got extractor and cats fitted today, although ended up going PH5360 which is a 4 into 1, 1 5/8 primaries , 2.5inch outlet, the exhaust shop strongly advised against 1 3/4's so I took his advice. Results- feels like its picked up torque, on the same 80km/hr inclines it no longer labours at 1500rpm in 4th, it picks up speed and the drone seems to have softened. On cruise its quiet, on full throttle has a decent V8 note, could still be better though, the sureflow sounds more beefy, and there's a fair bit of piston slap noise that wasn't there before when its more than just a partial throttle.

Preperation Required Rb30 Block For 3.2 Stroker Build
AngryRB replied to Nismo 3.2ish's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
my old man had a coolant lose in a commodore, using half a litre a week (500km's), it turn out to be a small, 8 mm hose at the back of the motor, was only a slow drip and wasn't evident because it was near the exhaust, so it burnt off as it dripped,( only one drop every 10seconds) just was thinking the turbo coolant line is that size and hidden at the firewall, so thought id suggest shining a light in there. the smell could be coming thru the firewall round there.. -

Not sure on RB26, but on my 25, the turbo coolant feed line runs round the back between the head and firewall, that's a good spot to have a slow leak, maybe have a look in there. -
Ok, done a complete back flip and ive booked her in for pacemaker 4 into 1's, 3inch 100cell cats, gonna see how it turns out and decide later wether the catback stays or goes... Either way it will just keep getting modded if its not what I want.. stay tuned .. time to get some meat on the bones of the ls1 lol.. ...

I tried a stock exhaust gasket over a VX LS1 shorty header and the size of the tubes are smaller than the gasket but the cast ones match it perfectly, so are the 1 5/8's runners smaller than the ports on and ls1 head? looks like the 1 5/8's is the OD not the inside..
-
This link works, https://youtu.be/O1bXPNy1Yn4 Its not a 5.7 , so not a direct comparison but on this engine the diameter of the runners doesn't loose torque , which you'd think it would , be good if they compared down low though. Wondering if the 4 into 1's are doggy down low due to design or poor tuning? what about collector length, should there be a certain length of pipe after the header to get the most torque?
-
Found a Youtube clip where they compare header size, its a much bigger motor but the comparisons are interesting because the bigger headers don't loose any power. Its good to see some analysis on a dyno to show something about headers size. 4 into 1's are pretty sexy pipes https://youtu.be/01bXPNy1Yn4

I can imagine the car would sound awesome with the valves in place just behind the middle mufflers because removing the rear pipes and resonator made it sound awesome.. Greg, what extractors and size do you have on this Green VY SS, https://youtu.be/2PfB7qhRHts , sounds like porn.
-
Im gonna get some TRI-Y's and 100cell cats, I don't want to risk the car turning into a sloth at street speeds, I may as well leave the catback alone and see if the sound changes afterwards, Not intending to spend $10k plus on this, its just for some daily fun and sound.. The sureflow does sound pretty good, but will give this DF catback a chance to shine first.. I had a go at taking out the short segments of 2inch pipe a few days ago, started cutting up those front pipes, I found a 2inch pipe within the front 2 1/4 inch pipe, its surrounded by steel wool, bloody hell that's sneaky shit, so I welded some 2.5inch pipe from the manifold to the cats and cleaned out a cat, I know bad idea. It was pretty hard for an amateur with a MIG welder, wont do that again, but the car has picked up some sound so im looking forward to getting some extractors and cats now...

sorry to hear mate, that's the last thing you'd expect, but on a positive note, if its just a gasket its still gonna work out in the end, you got all the good bits still so maybe not touch it and let them fix it. you'd expect a big name company would pay it to be towed and take care of you, there would be some people following this, surely they'd want to show that they look after there customers... -
How many cats does the 3.5inch system use? so what is your recommendation Greg, for an angry sounding exhaust system similar to the youtube vids I showed, just want to make sure that if I got the 4 into 1's that I can still use them with the cats if I change to the 3.5inch catback.. assume that it will go manual and probably a mild cam , around 250-300kw. This Youtube sounds meaty, https://youtu.be/CYHOVS4lc44 and yes of course that thing is gonna get thrashed lol.. that guy is funny!

Thanks cuspub and Thunder for those posts, its not too late yet but was planning the extractors and cats to be done next week. These posts really open up a can of worms, Ive actually been reading a lot of your posts Thunder on the ls1 site, I think you said on there that when tuned there wasn't much difference between tri -y and 4 into 1 down low but I didn't think the ground clearance would be an issue on stock suspension, I will keep it stock for ride comfort. I don't think mine will stay too standard in the long run, my current plan is to do full exhaust, mafless tune, and im thinking a manual conversion ( as funds become available) as ive seen plenty of 6speed box's with most accessories for around $1500, so selling my auto would make it appealing cost wise... As with the R33, most people want response and low end torque, but when giving some stick its more rewarding if it pulls hard to the redline or close, eg ( gt3076 on rb25) , so for the sake of future mods I'm still leaning toward the 4 into 1's, I know I seem to have changed my thinking from the first posts, just seems ill get bored eventually by having a good bottom end but then giving it squirts and feeling its legless.... What I don't want is a situation where it is very doughy down low and thirsty, with stock exhaust I managed a 11L/100km mixed driving, was babying it a bit with some odd squirts. This Youtube video sounds ideal to me and is what made me get the DF catback, it sounds quality without being silly loud. https://youtu.be/A_xcV4nMvdQ Also the 4 into 1's on these youtube clips do seems to sound deeper than tri-y?? this one also is what im after sound wise , https://youtu.be/SJ9Zblxhwuw I think that single system probably is better, would be much simpler , I think the twin system quietens it down too much, I think for now im going to get the extractors and cats and see how it sounds, might get the 3.5 single later and sell the DF if it doesn't sound good enough.. can do that anytime really. Wish I lived in NSW, would of been easier to come visit Thunder from the start , so will the 4 into 1's make it less torquey than standard?? I don't wanna go backwards too much...

Hey this might be silly idea but Im curious, what if you did a comp test , then did the adjustments would the right adjustment raise its compression the highest?

yeah I would personally not get fancy with manifolds and special "race spec turbos", Twin scroll and a GT35ish turbo sounds overkill and if not done right you could end with a dog of a thing when a simple stock manifold and hypergear will guarantee you results. The 3076 is king in your power range, Look up Mafia's thread, the sound is awesome. Are you using 2 wastegates?
