So at this power level, using E85 and safe tune etc.. are all the stock clearances like piston clearance, ring gaps, big end bearings etc still to be followed or do these become too tight and risk the motor seizing up? for example would a 1 -1.5 thou piston clearance on an new OEM piston be safe? (manual says 0.8 - 2thou is acceptable NA)
  5. As a first time build, will be using RB25pistons in RB30 block, decking block to get 9.5ish to 1 with non neo head , goal is using GT3076 to get 320-350kw.. What I need to decide is what exactly needs done to the block? should NEW RB25 pistons be enough so I have a tight quiet engine and no slap.. This isn't insane power so what should I ask an engine machine shop to do with this block ( assume it is worn out) and if the tune is good can I use OEM pistons etc..?? I don't want to know about "just get a wrecker RB30 and slap a neo head on" cause I want this done tight and done once for street performance not a drifting slapper.

VS ute series 3, 2000model has been modded by previous owner - Extractors, 3inch exhaust ( classic V8 rumble) - Diff modified for response - 18inch wheels - aftermarket cams - comp test is 160 on all 8 - electric windows - needs dash cluster replaced as it stopped working, all front shocks are bit soft, apart from that is a solid engine and drive line, good body $4700 ONO South Brisbane 0466 257 118

  10. The one that goes across the radiator, not the best but works. I've gone the plazmaman plenum. Maybe hypergear has a suitable housing that could bolt onto your turbo?
  11. If it were me id be keeping the housing and sending the turbo to FP , turn it into a HTA3073 and dump the turn flow intercooler, ive got the piping from intercooler to throttle for sale, could be done cheap.

  13. Received the plazmaman plenum today, wish I had a hoist, get the head spins . Forget previous post, changed mind again to do RB30 .. got this far, may as well rip it out and on with the RB30. Hopefully it will be reasonably straightforward, looks like the RB30 block doesn't have knock sensors so I assume I can drill and tap to use the RB25 knock sensors.. will have to read the RB30 threads more. The Plazmaman i'm assuming will solve the bonnet clearance issues.
  14. That's a lot of fuel, pretty sure I was using less than 15L/100km when on E85, on 98 it was 12, same as stock with a mix of driving.
  15. should keep it and put a 1.02 external rear on, probably make similar to a gt35 with awesome sounds.

Collecting parts at the moment, the RB30 is a fairly big task and don't have a lot of time at the moment so I think I might try to resurrect the RB25 , that will give me a back to back dyno comparison that way and I can enjoy driving the car again rather than who knows how long getting an RB30 built. So will try taking the head off this weekend to see what went wrong with cyl 5 that is at 60psi, meanwhile ill keep the parts coming in , tempting to buy secondhand but I know buying quality parts is best for the best results. got a 44mm tial gate today and have ordered a Plazmaman Plenum too .. be good to drive it again hopefully before xmas, and probably push the RB25 to 340kw this time if all goes well.
  17. What about having it 3.5/4inch all the way to the last muffler and having that smaller eg. 3inch/3.5inch? would that be effective seeing how its so far from the turbo or still restrictive?

  19. Would it really give 40% better throttle response? seems to contradict the view of the stock runners being best for response then.

At the stage of deciding on pistons now, pretty much set on the wiseco pistons( with coated skirts) and rings with forged rods ( brian crower rods) off ebay, if anyone has any input/advice im open, pretty much going for the RB25 forged pistons and decking the block, and going with the rebuild of the RB30, wondering if I should reuse my RB25 oil pump and harmonic balancer as well.. should I be testing the pump or should I be ok to assume that it will be ok? ( 180ks on my RB25 pump, no issues with it last time it was running)

Wouldn't it make more sense to have a probe for each cylinder, as if one cylinders leaning out, the average 02 that the wideband gives may not show any issues occurring, or maybe that's going to far? If you have a vacuum leak or a aftermarket plenum, you could have a cylinder that is overly rich or lean. Don't some tuners add extra fuel for the rear hotter cylinders ?
