  1. would an exhaust cam gear set to advance a few degrees help earlier spooling, i have plenty of top end, so wouldnt mind taking some back and adding it to the mid....... or does retarding take away from the mid???

Thanks mate, nice info on that site, so it looks like the head doesnt need taken off to get at them which is great news, looks like i might have some work ahead of me, im still trying to decide wether E85 or water/meth and with taking the intake manifold off to replace the gaskets its a great time to replace injectors if im going E85.. decisions decisions The modification bug has hit me..

Just wondering, you say that when cleaning the lifters to keep them in order but what about when the New tomei cams get dropped in, does this mean that the lifters have to "bed in" against the new cam?? If after getting more opinions on the lifters and i decide to take the head off, should i get some porting done to the head at all or will that make the turbo more laggy? Maybe some exhaust porting and then exhaust manifold to match?
  4. Thanks mate, thats food for thought, ill mention that to the tuner and maybe get a few opinions too, It could still be the problem, ill wait and see what happens with a new gasket then look into the lifter issue.
  5. yeah im really hoping that when this gasket goes on, when i put it back on dyno it puts out another few kw's and the boost will come on harder... but probably not much difference.. Before i get it checked on the dyno, should i try some sort of decarboniser to clean the engine? that might allow some more timing to be put in and bring me up to 300kw, or even adding 10L of ethanol to tank to bump up the octane? my injectors are on 78% so can i add 10L ethanol to a tank and get away with it so i can get into the 300Club??
  6. i have no idea about the lifters, i just droped the new cams in, and now im thinking about wether they should of been bled or somthing, the camcorder tends to pick up sounds abit different to real life, the exhaust is louder than what that video showed, but yeah i guess there is a bit of noise there.. what do you suggest? new lifters or somthing?
  7. no oilish line, i dont even get oil in my catch can though, its bone dry the gasket must of got blown out under boost.
  8. YESSS!!!! Have found the problem, i sprayed the WD40 around the top of the intake manifold where it bolts down and that gasket in there looks wasted, theres about an inch wide section that looks like its gone, and the wd40 was getting sucked inside , that must be what was making the noise under boost , what a relief, Thanks DVS!!! :worship: Saved me alot of $$$ Just one last question, if this leak was there when the car was getting tuned, does this explain the turbo being a bit lazy ? and does this mean my mixtures will be out and need checked again????

  10. no havnt changed the intake pipe, if it were a air leak it wouldnt hold its idle so well would it? its more like full on missing, what if i could connect the airflow directly to the cross over pipe? would that eliminate a vacumn leak?
  11. well thats all fair enough My problem seems to occur hot or cold, i drove the car this morning and ive noticed that this is a very light throttle problem the jerking happens between 1000rpm and 2000rpm with upto 10%throttle, even at 3000rpm on this throttle position it wants to jerk but you can just feel and hear it hesitating slightly. I dont think it is the cams or a vacumn leak or the intake pipe, it has to be tune or timing , although at about 5psi i can hear a leak of some sort like a horn blowing or a cat noise under bonnet still. I tightened up exhaust bolts and still there. Hypothetically speaking would a stretched timing belt cause the exhaust cam to be out enough to do this? anyone have any suggestions here? what could be causing this?

  13. Should run fine with normal boost, suprised it was able to be tuned to 15psi on stock computer.
  14. the $650 was the quote off a different tuner that i was asking so i could have a second opinion, but obviously dont want to spend that. i am going back to same tuner this friday to see if he can explain whats doing with it. i made short vid if it helps, it doesnt sound that bad but does get worse after driving and this doesnt show the jolting it does. http://youtu.be/lZcehjuxYbg
  15. taking the car back friday, rang tuner this morning, he is thinking it maybe running a bit lean on light throttle and there could be a vacumn leak somwhere, but ive gone thru that over and over, what things can i check on this power fc for idling?? the following i can see on controller Injectors 62.5% 0.18ms Throttle 0,37V at 950revs A/F meter 1.28V 02-1 is 0.02
  16. That just makes this even more frustrating then, im sure i can remember mine idling perfect the very first time starting it, was even bit disappointed cause it was so smooth, then the cas broke, so i replaced that then the 555's then a Z32 and tune, and now i have this..

  18. Can you tell me what is normal with Tomei 256cams? people are saying they idle like stock but looking at 4 utube video's they idle the same as mine, and thats a long way from stock. The tuner showed me as he adjusted fuel mixtures from over 15.3:1 down to 14.5:1 tried different cells making them richer/leaner, so is this really about the tune or the Cams?????? can my cam timing be changed as in retard/advanced to help smooth this idle and low speed jolting?
  19. Is it normal to have a vacumn from the rocker covers? when i put my thumb on the pipe from the rocker covers it actually sucks my thumb into the pipe... i thought if anything there'd be blow by gases from this pipe.. could this be part of the problem?
  20. ok i dont think its reversion, i cut the stock intake pipe in half and clamped it to the airflow, so has all those little bends in it and alot longer too, also this spark plug , does this look right?

  22. dont have a wideband, i checked the one inch pipe thats all fine, the canister doesnt have a pipe on the bottem but i blocked it with my hand and no difference, how do you do the cross in pipe, weld some steel rods inside?
  23. my old man thinks that because the airflow meter is 3inch and then the pipe goes 4inch that this will slow the air flow down and possibly stuff up the mixture at low engine speed? does this sound right ? i just changed the pipe slightly so the end has another corner, i took for another flogging, i was getting a bar of boost in forth on 3600rpm so must be improving with adjusting the boost controller. its just this crap idle and low speed, i listened to it under bonnet while reving and it sounds like its misses all thru revs, I think ill just take you guys advice on the parts needed and take it to a tuner from here, seems the only way to be sure.
  24. well i told him the whole mods and situation etc, and he said he'd have to put it on the dyno and see whats going on, so thats a $650 dyno fee, cause he'll have to connect his laptop etc, i don know anything about decel fuel cuts, it doesnt pop or fart, it just shakes and feels like its going to stall and sometimes when given a bootful, i look in mirror and see a massive cloud of smoke, be fuel id say. its funny how every so called expert has different views on things, MTQ guy just said my 555's were a bit small for 300kw and ill need a steel head gasket for over 1.2bar, DVS is starting to look good lol
