  1. I'm thinking of replacing the intake pipe with just a single straight pipe. Has anyone does this? My only concern about doing it is loss of power...will i lose low down and midrange power? also noise, how loud will it be? thanks greg
  2. thought about a toyota cressida? they're nice cars but hard to find in manual
  3. Greg

    wheel repair

so did u end up finding a place to repair your wheels coco? mine is lipped as well after hitting a pothole...
  4. Ok I've got that article from HPI in front of me. Cat back exhaust - gain nothing Custom 4-2-1 extractors - lost power "massive midrange hole in the power curve" Custom 4-1 extractors - gained a little "lost a couple of top end kw, restored midrange punch" ARC intake pipe - gained nothing "aim to change inlet volume to change the resonant frequency of the whole system, and cause either an earlier or later peak that increases power" sound interseting i think. HKS 256 step 1 camshafts with timing gears and apexi safc -"remarkable gains" "88kw was the final figure, up from the initial 74 kw"
  5. SillyFryFresh, I am really happy with the extractors. They give it heaps more go at low revs and make it more fun to drive around town normally. Fuel economy is improved as well. I've gone from getting about 11L/100km to about 10.2L/100km (that's being pretty hard on the car, lots of start stop traffic). You get a nice deep rumble to the exhaust as well. My only gripe is the heat they create. If you get them, before you have them fitted, remove the paint and then wrap them in some exhaust wrap, because its bloody hard to do it once they're on the car. I'm looking at making a custom heat shield for the extractors and wrapping my intake pipe in some cool tape instead of this. Hope this helps
  6. u got new badges yet? gav said he will probably come as well. see you saturday.
  7. TRDsupra, so what if you don't drive a skyline, come along anyway! i'm sure people won't mind if you drive your supra. i personally think supras are a lot better looking than skylines, and go harder
  8. Cortide, we'll should meet up and cruise down together...i've got a few mates that will probably come as well - one with an impreza and another with a celica. I'll ring you or something on saturday. cheers
  9. they are made for both RB20 and RB25, so its a bit of a compromise. i probably lost a bit of top end power but the low end torque more than made up for it. i'll measure later to confirm
  10. john is your r33 "Type S"?? the Type S had 5kw more power so maybe this was gained from different extractors, although i read something somewhere about variable cam timing giving the difference in power so i'm probably wrong.
  11. sorry to dig up the old thread but... what is "the good stuff"? is DEI good stuff? and with the good stuff is corrosion still a problem? thanks
  12. i have my old ones sitting in my garage, i'll take some pics on the weekend if you want. compared to the coby extractors i have (8kg) just going by feel the stock ones would be at least twice as heavy, if not more.
  13. there was a write up in a fairly recent hpi magazine of someone who had done adbsolutely everything to his CA18DE, cams and extractors were the most worthwhile. i think he still only made 87 rwkw though. i think 1991 is the changeover year ie where they changed from CA18 to SR20. i researched silvias a fair bit a while back because i was going to get one but i realised a skyline is better
  14. hey dude got any pics of your car? have you done any mods? btw you posted 3 new threads, maybe a moderator could delete the other two!!
  15. to get BACK ON TOPIC any update on your car john, got it dynoed yet?
  16. yeah i should have shopped around a bit but i guess it's the price you pay for being impatient (like me)
  17. omg that is the most sexy r33 sedan i've ever seen yeah my intake pipe gets really hot (on the verge of melting!) so i might need to look into some heat wrap....thanks
  18. hi skyla welcome to the forums got any pics of your car, it sounds pretty sweet. was it difficult to heat wrap the extractors? i'm thinking of doing mine. did it make much of a difference to engine bay temps? cheers greg
  19. sorry i didn't make myself very clear, $440 broken down as follows: $250 - cat $150 - labour (fitting took a bit under 2 hours) $40 - gst i was ripped off with the cat, get one from BATMBL on these forums if u want one...much cheaper.
  20. well i just got my extractors fitted today as well as a 2.5" hiflow cat. It cost $440 for the fitting and the cat which isn't too bad. Mr Muffler in Lilydale did the work. If you go there ask for Tim, tell him Greg sent you and he'll hook you up with a good price. I'm really pleased with the extractors. The engine revs a lot more strongly and a lot smoother. The torque gains in the low to mid rev range are massive, the car is not so slow below 3000rpm as it used to be. with 3 passengers in my car tonight it was still performing fairly well where as it used to feel like an excel. the only thing i don't like about the extractors is the loud sucking noise from about 3000rpm onwards, it sounds like a vacuum cleaner. I'm considering putting the stock airbox back on, anyone want to buy an apexi pod and fibreglass cold air box? those of you have have the coby extractors fitted, what have you done about a head shield? the intake pipe is too close to the extractors for my liking. if it doesn't melt the intake piep it will definitely increase intake temps. any suggestions about what to do? regards greg EDIT: do not use mr muffler in lilydale, i have since discovered what a poor job they did. eg reusing an old broken gasket, not using split washers and leaving drops of weld in the cat causing the exhaust to sound like a tin full of money being shaken
