I just took my boost restrictor off! WOW!!!
justinfox replied to justinfox's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Cheers for the heads up guys. Looking at the stock boost guage in the GT-R now. I am almost, but not quite, hitting the +7. I think, if I am correct. That means I am almost at 1bar? -

I don't think I really need a boost controller? Overkill? I will look into this a little more though in any case. I doubt taking off that little restrictor will make my car boost so much more. If I do blow the turbos... then I will just have to get new ones which don't have ceramic bits! -

So turns out I am running a Mines chip + very large exhaust. The HPI magazine article specifically says that the Mines chip makes taking off the boost restrictor safe. But I would like a boopst guage that read over 1bar to be safe so any suggestions peoples? I'd love it if the boost guage could replace the stock one. I somehow doubt this is possible? I really don't want to clutter the interior with another guage which will stick out like buggery. Any suggestions on a subtle boost guage/position? -

Apparently it only really matters is you have an R32 GT-R. -
Hey all, After reading the latest GT-R issue of HPI magazine where there were 2 cases in the magazine where they suggest you take off the boost restrictor off an R32 RB26DETT for extra boost (almost 1bar, perfect for stock ceramic turbos apparently). I thought I'd go and see if my car (R32 GT-R), which is pretty damn stock, still had this little restrictor on it. And turns out it had. It's clearly marked by a yellow line. You can feel it's there. I simply took the hose off the boost solenoid thingy. Then used plyers to push the little boost restrictor along the hose until it popped out. It's a tiny little brass spacer looking thing. Nothing more nothing less. It has a tiny hole through the centre (thus restrictor!). I put the hose back on. Easy done. Just came back from a drive around the area I live in and wow. Amazing difference! It goes a lot harder now. Amazing. I am stoaked! Boost guage needle goes all the way to the top too now. Just awesome!!! I had read threads about it on this forum. And like all forums it's always confusing to read the threads as 1/2 of the people say do it, and the other half say don't do it, it's dangerous etc. Well... best way sometimes is to try these things yourself. And so I gave it a go.. and I'm VERY happy I did!!!! It only took 5 minutes to do too. And would be easy to replace as well if I ever wanted to revert back to stock. Whoot!

Does a club lock work these days? Surely putting a club lock on would deter the thieves that little bit more?

OK well the demister lines on a 32 GT-R may be different to some other models as for sure they are very thick and raised. I have just gone down and patted each line down and it's perfect now in most places. Just a few little spots where I can see a little bit of air around each demister line. The guys did not charge me anymore. They did an amazing job on my Alfa last time... so I know they're good. And the boss there was very very distressed about this job on the Skyline. He wants me to come back in on Tuesday next week so they can have a good look at it, see if they can smooth it all out until it's perfect. He wants to see it perfect... gave me a discount in any case too... which was cool. Personally I am happy with it. I would prefer these minor imperfections rather than having no tint at all on the rear. I do have a 10yr warranty on the tint so if ever something went wrong in future I could get them to re-do the rear window tint.

Hi all, Just got my R32 tinting done at SOL-ACE and the guy there took 3 1/2 hours to do it and said that it was the worst job he's ever had to do! Turns out the rear windscreen has some very very thick demister lines all over it and these lines are raised which cause severe bubbling of the tint. He had to individually cut around each demister line by hand/knife!!!!!! And even so the job is great but not 100% perfect. So, be warned. I winder about all of you who do have tinting done on the rear windscreen... whether or not you have air bubbles all over due to these thick demister lines?

I just ordered myself a Whiteline 'The Works' kit and will no longer be needing my standard R32 GT-R suspension. I've noticed my car is a little bit higher at the front than the rears. Most likely because the rear springs have sagged a little? Really not sure. $500? Cheap! I am in Sydney and would prefer not to ship (pick-up would be great) but will ship if I cannot sell them to a Sydney sider. PM me for more details. justinATaustralianinfront.com.au

Sequential shifter converter - Interested???

Well does it use the clutch or not? That's the main question for me. -
I don't think I will ever, not even once, do a big launch with my GT-R. Trying to look after the beast So far I've found mine to be amazingly fast in a straight line and scary on corners, perhaps this has something to do with the suspension on the car though, the rears have definitely sagged and I'm currently looking into a complete Whiteline works package for the car. It doesn't corner anywhere near as amazing as the Alfa on the streets. You can't just floor it and go around a roundabout like you can with an Alfa. It's just too heavy and powerful to do very tight manuevers like this, if you try it you'll most likely end up in a bus station. There's a musty odour in the cabin, just old. That can be fixed though with a bit of love. And my brakes are so bad it should be illegal. The brakes on the Alfa were amazing so I have that to compare to (I had EBC greenstuff pads and ebs turbo rotors). So I will be looking into ebc greenstuff pads this week too. Parts of the dash are warping slightly, just old age. You put your foot down every now and then.. can't be helped in a car like this. So yes, it guzzles so much feul it's amazing how fast that full tank can go. But it's an amazing car. One I respect so much and get excited about every time I even think about going downstairs to the garage to drive

Actually, it's useless if you have to press the clutch in isn't it? And having to stare at the gear indicator to tell what gear your in might get pretty damn frustrating. -

Very interesting. You still have to use the clutch so it's not like a hollinger. Strange huh? Where's Rezz when you need him!? Rezz, or anyone else... more 1st hand info! -
Surely you had a 3 point immobilizer o nyour car?
