Shed Clean Out. Rb26/20 Parts
Mark-32 replied to Mark-32's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Im in Launceston tas. The clutch was in a standard 32 GTR when I purchased engine. I test drove the car before we pulled the engine out and the clutch seemed strong and had not been abused by the previous owner. I had already purchased a jim Berry clutch so didn't end up using this twin plate. -
Shed Clean Out. Rb26/20 Parts

Cleaning my shed out got a few bits to sell. Most of this stuff was taken off a healthy 26 when I did my rebuild. Engine had 145000ks on it and all parts are in good nick with no damage. TJ Twin Plate clutch with rb26 flywheel, plenty of meat on clutch plates good condition- $150 RB26dett Standard Cam shafts. Good condition - $100 HKS Mushroom Pod Filter. Good condition - $60 Brand new N1 water pump. - $100 6x rb26dett pistons and rods. - $100 RB26dett Standard Oil pickup - $20 RB20DET crossover Pipe - $20 Also have a complete RB20 wiring loom for $80 ono. All prices are ono. -
I can gauratee you they have z32 internals. I planned on using these with a power fc and they were installed on the car, but then i changed to a vipec ecu with map sensor so i no longer need them. They were purchased from access autoworks new and still have there order number and another number on the stickers on each afm if that helps? I paid $500 for them $200 or thereabouts it would be a far cheaper alternative to take using the original afm plug rather than spending 6-700 or z32's

Yep they fitted new guides when they did the rebuild. Thats why it seems strange, the tuner was reving it past 9 grand on the dyno aswell so you would think if it was going to break it would of broke on the dyno. Duggans balancing in victoria have covered it all under warranty and the head is on its way back to me at the moment so Iam lucky in that respect. They said the 26 heads dont usualy break guides unless something goes through the engine causing the valve to bend, then in turn breaking the guide. Its just bloody frustrating as its only a new engine with all new parts, and we had to pull the whole engine and box out of the car again to get the head off.
-
But why would the guide break?
-
It was the inlet guide. I first thought that something must have got sucked into the engine but when we pulled the head off there was nothing to be found except a bent valve and a few little bits of squashed broken guide. There are no marks on the rear turbo exhaust wheel to indicate anything has got spat out either. The car did about 20 hours on the dyno being run-in and tuned, and was driven on the road after that for about 3 days with 320rwkw on 13.5 psi with no dramas before this hapend. Any ideas why this would hapen and what would cause it?

The marks on the piston and head in those pics look nearly identicle to the marks I have on no 4 and no 1 cylinder of my forged rb26 engine. My engine had just been fully rebuilt and after doing about 500-600km's including dyno time, bent the valve and broke the valve guide in no 4 cylinder. I realise this is probably the wrong place to ask, but can anyone tell me if this is a common issue with rb26 valve guides even when kept under 8500rpm, and only using 260deg cams? Is it possible for bits of the broken guide to travel between cylinders? I have the same issue in no 1 cylinder but the guides in that cylinder are fine. Also, would a broken guide cause the valve to bend? Or is it more likely that the valve bending would have caused the guide to break?

I've just broke a valve guide no 4 inlet valve on a rebuilt 26 engine, Just wondering if rb26 guides are known to break if kept under 8500k.
