Im after some advice in regards to my oil drain back issue. Car is a gts with rb26, -5's, vipec, Nitto pump, hi octane rwd sump (9.5ish litres), enlarged return galleries, mines rocker baffles, rear head drain running to the highest point on the driverside of the sump. The engine is fresh forged rebuild with under 1500kms on it To start with I presumed my issue was the 1.5mm restrictor being to large as I was getting a fair amount of oil in the catch-can when doing high revs on 13.5psi. I have just gone down in size to a 1.1mm restrictor and had the car tuned on 20 odd psi but I am still geting alot of oil in catchcan. I feared the worst and thought it must be an exsesive blow-by issue but i have just had a cylinder leakage test done on the car which were all 6 cylinders beetween 3 and 5%. I also had a oil pressure test done which was 70odd psi flat to the boards. The nitto pump has the smaller spring. Im abit stumped and thinking it must have something to do with the head drain being on the wrong side of the sump. Can anyone tell me whats the best way to vent that doing a sump breather setup tapping into the line that goes from the back of the head to the sump. Would i be best just puting a T piece into that line and then running that line up to the bottom of a baffled catchcan? or is there a better way of doing that so the head can still drains back aswell. I was thinking of having a nismo style oil air seperator off the rocker covers draining into rear turbo drain, then the overflow of that can running to a bigger 4-5 litre baffled catch can that has a fitting on the bottom of it running down to the fitting in the sump. Any advice on the setup or a better design would be much appreciated as Iv been chasing my tail for the last year or so trying to fix the problem and just want to fix it permanently.

Oil Control In Rb's For Circuit Drag Or Drift
Mark-32 replied to Sydneykid's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thought I would share my experiences with oil control.. My engine was a freshly built forged Rb26dett using nitto pump with external oil drain plumbed into inlet side of the sump. I have mines rocker baffles, my oil galleries are inlarged and the sump is a 9litre Hi Octane item. I had the 1.5mm restrictor in place. After geting the engine tuned and run-in on the dyno I too had the dramas of my engine trying to push all its engine oil out the rocker covers when doing constant big revs. After finding sydneykids table on here I made the decision to pull the head and fit the 1.1mm restrictor in place of the 1.5mm tomei one that was fitted. Im happy to report this has fixed the problem and I have finally wound the boost up to 22psi from the13psi run-in tune and all is going well with no more oil in the catchcan. It still amazes me that the 1.1 restrictor makes such a huge difference compared to the 1.5 one but trust me it does... It just goes to show how much oil the nitto pumps flow and how important it is to fit the right sizes restrictor. Anyway hope this helps.... -

Will 800Cc Inj On Rb26 Be Big Enough For E85
Mark-32 replied to Mark-32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Well as you can see here you will need to go bigger than 1000cc to get the most out of it.. I have one other quick question for the tuning gurus......... In regards to my setup which is a 26 with dash 5's..... Assuming my fuel system and supporting mods are up to the task, roughly what is the maxium amount boost can safely run on BP98 before you start to see det and it becomes unsafe??? I know its a fairly general question and every setup is different, but im curious to see how far over 20psi most people go whilst still being on the safe side of things and still having the car thrash-able so to speak?? -

Thanks for your imput guys, I now understand to make the most out of the E85 i need to upgrade injectors, Didn't mean for this to turn into an arguement but there are a few people who seem to just want to argue instead of just helping and telling the facts. So on 98 pump fuel i can push 360 370rwkw max....... but if im only just going to be able to crack 400rwkw on E85 with the 800cc injectors, im obviously better off fitting something like the 2000ID's and making the most out of the E85. -
Just thought I would pull this thread back up as I have finally solved the problem and thought it may help others down the track.. After having the dramas of my engine trying to push all its engine oil out the rocker covers I made the decision to pull the head and fit the 1.1mm restrictor in place of the 1.5mm tomei one that was previously in place. Im happy to report this has fixed the problem and I have finally wound the boost op to 20psi and all is going well.. It still amazes me that the 1.1 restrictor makes such a huge difference compared to the 1.5 one but trust me it does... It just goes to show how much oil the nitto pumps flow.

Will 800Cc Inj On Rb26 Be Big Enough For E85

I should also add the car was road tuned today on 20psi with the 044 intank, but Im not sure if I should bother fitted the twin pumps and surge etc untill I purchase injectors to suit the E85 -

Ok well I wasn't really after a smart arse answer, I realise every setup is different but anyway the car is running dash 5-s, vipec, cams, etc. At the moment it only has single 044 intank at 320rwkw I have a fuel system for it consisting of 2x 044 twin entry rail and at the moment only the 800cc injectors fitted. -
I have done a search but cant find a definate answer....Engine is rb26dett. If using twin 044's, with twin entry rail etc, will 800cc injectors be ok if i just bump up the rail pressure, and If so to what power level? My 800s are pretty much brand new sards so If I could keep them instead of having to buy new ones that would obviously be the go. Any help is much appreciated. Cheers

Price drop $200 need them gone.... -
Same thing hapend to my rb26 engine. Fresh rebuild, had it going 3 days then broke a valve guide in No5 cylinder.. Massive job pulled the engine back out lifted the head. The only damage It did was the bent inlet valve and broke the valve guide in no5. In my case I just sent the cylinder head back to my engine builder who fixed it and returned it. How bad is the bore and damage to top of piston? Pics? I feel for you buddy hope you get it sorted under warranty

I have a high octane sump on my car but the best custom sumps for RB's I have seen are made by JPC in victoria and suprisingly they are also the cheapest.

Im running a Vipec ecu, and also the greddy hard pipe kit so the standard plumback setup is too much hassle to fit. I originaly had a single hks bov in the cooler piping up near the plenum but It wasn't mine so I had to give it back to my mate. Since removing the bov I have found slightly better throttle response. I was just keen to hear peoples opinions on if running no bov actualy does reduce the turbos life or hurts anything.......? I was originaly having dramas with comp surge but since removig the bov that is no longer a major problem..
-
Whats the story with bov's on twin turbo rb26 engines? Are twin bovs really needed, or even just single or is none at all fine? Im currently running twin -5 turbos with no bov setup at all and Im just wondring if thats ok, or if it will eventualy kill my turbos or just possibly shorten their life?

How much oil does your engine take to fill to the 'H' with the high octane sump fitted? The reason I ask is I have been speaking alot this week with my engine builder and my tuner about my setup. They both think that my problem may be due to too much oil in my sump causing it to splash up limiting the amount of oil able to drain back down. They build alot of 26/30's, 26 amd plain 30 engines and the only difference with my setup to thiers is Iam running the high octane sump and all the engines they build run the JPC sumps. My sump took 10 litres of oil but I did overfilled my oil to the hump on the dipstick before the recent drift day I entered. Probly a long shot i know, but after speaking with the engine builder he assures me there would be no need to lift the head again as there must be another reason for this hapening as the engine doesn't havee enough oil pressure to warrant a 1.1mm restrictor..
-
Ok, so sounds like the 1.1mm is the go, and I will leave the oil pump as is for the time being. Can anyone tell me how to convert the standard oil pressure gauge thats in my dash to psi?? I realise its not going to be very accurate but it may give me an idea on how much oil pressure its currently running befor I pull the head off.
-
Thatt may be what I will do aswell then. I would be severely pissed though if I put the other spring back in and it does it again... Maybe I will do what Envy said and run the 0.9.......! Or make a 1mm?

My fitting went it the top right part of the added box section on the sump here.
