Just looking for your honest thoughts. I'm seeing red right now so if i am over-reacting tell me; and any experiences from you may have had also would help. Just paid a well respected audio installer in Dandenong $1100 to do some work on my 34. He hasn't loomed up and secured the cables properly behind the head unit because i can HEAR THEM RATTLING ALL THE TIME and most importantly hes scratched the f**k out of ALL AROUND the centre console. Theres bright white scratches; actual chunks taken out of it where the plastic's been bashed... jeez. This morning it was perfect; because i've been pedantic about looking after my baby... leave it for 7 hours with this guy and hes done more damage than in 11 years since the car was made. I saw it in the garage before the job was finished and i see how it has happened; he had dumped everything with wires still attatched in the passenger footwell and of course it was scraping all up the side without a rag or anything protecting it. I made a point of saying this when i picked up the car a couple of hours ago. Said "these scrapes weren't here this morning. They've happened here" and he kind of shrugged it off. Before i go back there and maybe look like an idiot; advice; ideas, experience please gentlemen... thank you.

Stoked! Good luck trying to sleep in the nights leading up to tuesday.... i sure as shit didn't. But since it's a 2001 model car; you should actually get a years warranty on certain parts... not brake pads or solenoids but if the engine blows up basically you are covered. I remember Shane telling me it was mandatory on cars ten years old or less. You've bought it at just the right time. But since its got 65k on the clock whats the worst its going to need? wiper blades? pfft. Good luck with your new toy

Hang on; I've bought 2 cars from power road over here in Victoria and they've been perfect. Sometimes the cars the dealers buy sit in the yard for a while before they send them off to get their rego done... it could just be this. When i bought the GTT last year It had literally just come off the boat and it did not have a rego on it. I think the neccesary mechanical work had already been done before it arrived in Australia however. I put a deposit down; it was put through the relevant Vicroads tests and after a week it was in the yard ready to go with its rego plates & tags; with a years warranty from the dealer. In the case of rego; i think they simply don't have it on the cars sitting in the yard because if nobody buys them; the rego expires and they have to pay again... Hope all goes well with your r34. If it's near 100,000km the dealer would have to change ALL of its belts free of charge before he sells it to you. And if you're still paranoid; do an racv check (or the equivilent for your state)

A pretty unpleasant policeman just had a go at me for my muffler being too loud. I was in a breath test lane being tested; and he's come right up and stood behind the car glaring at the exhaust as if it had just insulted his mother or something.... apparently I'm getting mail from the EPA and i will have to go to a test. Here's the kicker; the exhaust is completely stock... its no noiser than your average astra. The only thing i'm thinking about is the pod filter mod i had done a few months ago. i paid for someone to do it properly with the intention of keeping everything legal and above board. He couldn't have heard the filter at all in this situation; i was rolling at 40 km/h I've attatched pics so you can see whats going on. Now; the thing is a little bit loud when you have your foot flat; but then again most cars are and this is not an exhaust noise; so... gah... i don't know what i'm in for basically. If anyone could shed some light on the situation that would be appreciated thanking you, alex

Just thought i'd share some info in the hopes that i help someone one day; this car is series II R34 GTT Manual 2 door on yer general maintainence thread; R34 Fluid levels are mysteriously absent. engine Oil: 5.3 litres. (Thats including changing the oil filter) Thats what i put in and it works fine. After that the owners manual isn't kind enough to tell me what gearbox & diff oil to use so i poked around, got the right stuff and worked it out. Differential: 1.5 litres. I actually found i got about 1.4 in there and it started overflowing out the top bolt; apparantly means its full Gearbox: 2.5 Litres. Now thats the interesting figure. Search the net and thats all over the place; some say as much as six litres. Bear in mind this is for a manual. i acutally measured what came out of the gearbox into the bucket ( lucky i have mm marks ) and it was pretty bang on 2.5 litres. So i put back in exactly what came out. And of course; my car is running fine. It's nice; the feeling of the gears now. I suppose i should do this more often. Hope this info can be of some help. cheers. alex

I remember asking about Xenon bulbs and finding out technically they are illegal in vic; well in skylines anyway. Pompous and expensive bmw's and mercs are a different story apparantly. When i got mine I found I have standard $30 Halogen bulbs in my 34. When it went through the import process they took the xenon's out.

Hey there, I've had my new toy for about four months now; got to say the stock clutch really annoys me now. But its fair enough. It's done about 110,000 k's and i believe by then you'd be expecting to buy a new clutch anyways. especially in a car that has likely seen its share of .... fun. There were posts up top about Jim Berry clutches but i live in VIC and i don't think i'll need that kind of strength tbh. I drove my mates supra which had a basic exedy heavy duty in it; and loved it. so figure i just need to find the skyline equivilent. ultimately i'll probably get it to about 230kw max and leave it. I'll expect the new parts to be happy when throwing the car around a bit; so a basic Heavy duty exedy should more than cover me right? I also figure i'll just go to autobarn and buy one; unless one of you more experienced drivers has a better reccommendation? Thanks for your time; Alex.

Just my two cents from a beginners pov, I got a Series II r34 GTT a few months ago, manual; had the same choice as you milsen. Tell you what; living in Morrabbin and driving to the city on weekdays i hate manual with a passion. But I still wouldn't change it for the world. Here's one reason for getting manual over tiptronic. You've got a Shiny R34 Turbo sat there; your mates & even random admirers come to have a look; then they look in and see a Auto in there; and then all the smart arse comments start. You will never get any respect from the purists driving tiptronic. Having owned a tiptronic previously i didn't think they were that bad really. you learn a trick or two about how it changes over time and you can get it to change quite quickly. The trick is to take your foot off at the right time. But ultimately it comes down to the gear ratios i think. With Manual; you've got an extra gear in there; and geez; by the time you get to third your already going 100km/h + If your going to buy one of these gorgeous cars buy Manual mate. But be prepared to get the shits in traffic and to pay up to $5000 more

This thread helped me. Thank you. A bloke at the local mechanic said he always checks nissans because they seem to consistenly have problems with tie rod ends. Interesting. -
R34 Gt Tiptronic No 4th Gear

**solved** Got it back a couple of weeks ago. The verdict: Solenoid. Pissed off that it took 3 weeks to diagnose. -
R34 Gt Tiptronic No 4th Gear
Little replied to Little's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Hey, bringing this post back! The cars been in the shop still. Its been to three different mechanics and is now at a specialists; because neither of the first two could figure out what the hell was wrong. If anyone has been down and got a car from power road automotive in Dandenong; and met the boys there; let us know your thoughts. If i didn't know better i'd say they they're motivated by cash... and thats about it. It just doesn't take a mechanic three weeks to fix a transmission; even a fiddly tiptronic. Apparantly, a solenoid has been changed, and that did absolutely nothing. Jeez. I might be able to drive this car sometime before christmas. -
R34 Gt Tiptronic No 4th Gear
Little replied to Little's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Thanks for the info mate, so i'll definately start with solenoids on the list. But it's not stuck in third gear, it goes 1,2,3 smoothly and cleanly, which is why i find it so strang that i can't just go fourth. Surely the transmission would make more noise or summit if it was broken. 4 Even comes up on the Dash but it has definately not changed into it. In any case. I'll post what i find. Cheers! -
Evening, Bought a spunky R34 a couple of days ago, with only 70,000 on the clock, was pretty chuffed with the whole thing, until i realised today when i was going 100 km/h, the thing was revving at about 3000rpm. No matter what i do, i drive or titronic manual, The car will not go into 4th gear, it stays in third. This doesn't make sense as the whole car is so immaculate and has no mods done to it whatsoever. I'm wondering: Instant red flag on the transmission, or is this something wierd like a snow setting, or an electronics issue or what? On the plus side, it's under warranty and the dealer is happy to help; but any advice would be appreciated. Cheers, Alex
