  1. <i> Unless the heat is causing the engine to ping</i> This is correct. Tuner sensed a "little pinging" on the dyno but the knock sensor was pulling it back sometimes when it sensed knocking. So it is not knocking badly at the moment, only a little when it is hot which the ecu picks up and takes care of. Goin to get a FMIC and try 98 octane instead of 95. cheers.
  2. Had it dynoed at 168rwkw. Problems with the SMIC getting too hot and messing with the performance and knock sensor.
  3. My tuner had a listen and he thought it was the same thing. He also thought it could be bearings which would be unlucky since it is a new pump.
  4. Dynoed it and turned out to be (in theory) the intercooler getting too hot which triggers the knock sensor almost always at 4000rpm. FMIC is on the next to do list.
  5. Nah just the R33 SMIC. What do you do now power wise with your FMIC? I have a feeling my Z32 chips knock sensor is rather sensitive When we turned it off it just lit up the wheels in second at 50km and 70km (in the wet) where as with it turned on it wouldn't (unless turning slightly), it would have that flat spot.
  6. I have an auto so apparently if it was a manual it would be doing 190ish... All I know is when the cooler is cold it pulls hard right through (and with the knock sensor turned off) but when it is hot it literally stops accelerating at 4000rpm and then suddenly carries on (knock sensor turned on). Tuner thought it was the hot intercooler causing detonation and the knock sensor was kicking in. He tried multiple variations of afr but it came down to the intercooler we thought. Sometimes he would get 130rwkw on the dyno and the other time got 168rwkw depending on the temp of the intercooler and the knock sensor kicking in. Better not be something else : l
  7. I'm looking at getting one too. I have a 3" turbo back exhaust running 9-10psi, K&N panel filter, dyno tuned to 168rwkw but had problems with my little intercooler heating up and giving us bad runs. I even felt it the other day and it was hot to touch... I wasn't even pushing it. What gains could I expect... I hear maybe 5-10rwkw according to my tuner, but more so I look forward to reliable power. I don't plan to do a re-tune in the immediate future.
  8. Air con is cold but not as cold as my bosses' 96 stagea so I am assuming it is getting a little old.
  9. Goes through no oil at all. I can't see any leak on the engine bay side. It is only part way up the firewall and then stops. I felt the outside of the loom up higher but it wasn't wet from what I could tell. What is the fan above the mat? It could be from that and could make sense. If I unplug my tuned ecu will it reset it and loose the tune? I am quite keen to open it up and clean it out a bit. I don't mind a little leak if its not important, but I want to stop it getting into the ecu.
  10. ? ! Could it be the air con pump? Where is that located?
  11. Are there any cheap ones better than other cheap ones? Is I.T.L IFR intercoolers any good? (I could not find much info on them on google). http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Nissan/Engines/auction-361817175.htm I like the sound of that one since it may fit better. What about scarles intercoolers, anyone used them? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Performance/Turbos/auction-362046345.htm cheers guys, I appreciate any info. I am leaning toward a cheaper one.
  12. Just opened the kick board to see where this sludge is coming from. It is rather sticky and brown where it has been sitting for a while. This is where something has been dripping onto the mat (I am assuming). Patch is at the front left hand side of the mat under the dash and a little on the edge where the computer is. Oil on the ecu plug (Some might be form the tuner smearing around). Thing above the drips on the mat. Highest point I can find the brown liquid on the fire wall (see the brown patch) left of the wires. It is not far above the ecu but on the back wall. You can see it running down and puddling on the floor near where the ecu sits.
  13. Nah, I want to do a DIY jobby. More fun and cheaper. What power can these cheapies handle in general or is it a waste of money to do a "little" jump to one of them from my smic.
  14. I am from NZ so trademe is the place 4 me . But what if I decided to go into the 200+ rwkw? I don't want somethin huge but if I decided to go a little further then I don't want to have to buy intercoolers and parts all over again. I can't tell if its a sales pitch or not but Mag and Turbo said I should get a G-redy or hks (1500-2500 bucks) kit since they are good quality. The guy reconed the cheap ones were only good for looks. How would kits like these perform? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=360387725. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Performance/Turbos/auction-362046345.htm In my price range but I am guessing they are cheap for a reason? anyone had experience with kits like these?
  15. What power are the GTR intercoolers capable of holding?
  16. I just have been and found nothing in NZ neway.
  17. Sorry, I thought you meant a chinese one. I was warned not to get those.
  18. Phoned mag and turbo warehouse in whangarei NZ and they have never heard of "Just Jap" brand of intercooler. Must be an OZ thing?
  19. I'll have a look in the foot well and see if I can take some photos. Tuner told me it was engine oil... unless he was mistaken. I just don't see how it could be.
  20. This was a run with an auto, apparently if it was a manual I am told it would be doing around 190rwkw. I read somewhere the evo intercoolers were capable of up to 250kw.
  21. I was warned not to because I would have to cut my bumper etc, and it would make it a cop magnet. There are HKS and G-redy (whatever it is) kits for 1500-2500 lol. I'm looking at spending $500. cheers,
  22. Hey peoples, Just had my car dynoed tuned at 168rwkw but had problems with the anti-knock sensor kicking in (Z32 ecu). The intercooler was struggling to keep the air cool. We would get a good run and then it would get hot and cause the anti knock sensor to kick in. I am looking at installing an evo 1-3 front mount intercooler since it fits relatively well (won't have to cut away any bumpers) and it is relatively cheap. Has anyone here done this installation? Since I am new to this and will learn as I go, will I need to custom the intercooler pipes? or use existing/mitsi ones. Yes, I have used the search and it doesn't have any threads from what I can see on installing evo intercoolers.
  23. Not that I can see, someone just pm'ed me and suggested it could be the air-con overflowing and it can have a yellowish tinge to it. There are also drips on the front of the left hand passenger's mat toward the firewall under a fan.
  24. Thats right. Any ideas? It appears to be coming down the engine loom. Car is an R33 gts25t 4 door 1997. Tuner has only come across a few cars that have done it and he is baffled.
