According to the EPA all filters that do not have a adr number stamped on it from factory are illegal full stop they dont care, so a ryco panel filter is ilegal in the epa's minds even tho no one in there right mind will defect you for it

Please correct me if i am wrong but the standard Nissan cats don't comply hense why they are replaced during the compliance hense why i had to get a aftermarket one with a epa test report on my vehicle proving that the cat converter complys

Hmmm i can tell you from my experience with the epa of decc what ever you want to call them it is not good. You can have all your aftermarket gear on the vehicle as long as it passes the emissions test but you have to photo graphed will all the part numbers clearly readable and send it into the epa or go to a decc inspection station to have it signed off. As far as a cat converter is concerned i have a copy of a emissions test and part number for a cat converter that was passed on a r33 and it costed me $175 from memory from a complance mob in sydney. I can email this emisson test and give you the part number for the cat convert that is required that should solve your cat converter issue pm me your email address and i can send it through

Hmmm it is a touchy subject indeed. I have only had good interactions with police bar one occasion. Sure i have been defected but they have been reasonable as i was extremely polite to them. But in saying that the people i have the gripe with as far as high way patrol are concerned is the extremely picky fines they issue if the chick was doing what she said in the story it is extremely harsh and or police officers using there speedos as a measure for speed to book someone and don't have a correct radar reading on the person in general for small speeding offenses like 5 km over ect there needs to be physical proof in my mind. Defecting process are there for a reason to maintain road safety and environment protection but here is where it becomes tricky is the enforcement of these laws pod filter for example if it is on vehicle fitted with a air measuring sensor that all computer cars are fitted to and the filter is before the measuring sensor the difference in air flow is calculated and the fuel injected is modified to maintain the correct emission out put, and if the noise of the pod filter does not exceed the limit and is in closed in a box how is the filter ilegal going off a Australian design rules employee i spoke to some years ago they said if emission test was conducted and noise pollution test and it passed the pod was perfectly legal. Police are trained only to look for things that ilegal or that are thought to be ilegal without knowing the reason why or its function this instance i disagree with them being able to issue defects but they still should be able to issue a requirement for a car to be inspected if they feel the vehicle is a safety risk only. They need qualifed mechanics with rta inspection tickets and or qualified engineers to carry out the inspections and issue the defects and the inspection costs should be free if nothing is found. This will stop the incorrect issuing of defect notices in my opinion but they have to flexible in the time frame these inspections can be carried out. As far as doing the polices jobs i couldn't be a general duties or hwy patrol officer as the respect they are given well from most people is none which is wrong respect should be given without question. I have found if a officer gives me attitude it is usually a way to show authority more than anything and they soon change there tone when they know the people they are dealing with are polite and respectful. The only drama i have had is when the EPA where involved they are people that i do not want to deal with ever again thats my thoughts anyway
