  1. This is going to sound like a bit of a dumb question, but here goes I'm looking to buy a GTS R33 Skyline and have been doing a fair bit of research on running costs (this car is my 18th Bday present, but i have to pay for everything but the car... seeings as i don't earn a lot i need to know how much it'll cost me) Anyways, my mum was talking to a guy who owns a black R33 GTS and he said that it cost him $60 a week on petrol cause he puts in like Premium stuff, (i dunno much about petrol as i'm sure you can tell) He also said that you have to with that type of car, cause the regular stuff isn't good for it. i'm just wondering is this true? Or can you just put regular in it? I know this sounds dumb but any responses will be appreciated. Thanks.
  2. There was a guy in one of the car mags driving a modded up Hyundai Accent. The article said it was like the second or third fastest four cylinder car in Australia... THAT'S repectable, even if the car is barely running any stock parts at all. When it comes down to it tho, get what you want for your car if you think it looks cool. Today this red pulsar came past me, lowered, custom paint job, custom body kit and bonnet, bigger exhaust, the full timers and stuff on the bonnet, bigger wheels, and I just looked and laughed cause i could picture my grandma behind the wheel of a pulsar, but obviously the owner thought it was cool, and in the end that's all that really counts. So go for it mate, if you think it looks cool then do it. Don't worry about other people.
  3. I can relate. I get to learn to drive in crappy 1.3Litre cars, so going on to an import sports car after that... hehehe
  4. Don't they get complied for the Aus market on import? Like, things added to them to meet Australian standards? So do they even have the same seat belts on Japan or wherever as they do here, or as they changed as well? Cause that might explain why some are 2+2 and others are 5.
  5. I'm still on my L's, and i may still be when i get my Skyline some time next year So far I've driven an auto Hyundai Excel and a manual Toyota ?Ultima? or something like that. I've only had about 6 hours driving all up, so i'm far from being good at it.
  6. Thanks to everyone so far... I am curious about the 'exclusions' for a turbo with an under 25 year old driving it who isn't named... mainly in regards to Just Car insurance, does anyone know if they will exclude me because it's a turbo if i have an accident? Thanks again.
  7. I've only ever seen one R34 on the roads here in Canberra, and it was SWEEEEET. My personal preference would be the R34 simply cause it's a Skyline, but remember that it's also not as common on the roads, which is a good thing if you want a real 'head turning' car. Some factors should also be taken into account; insurance, running costs, maintenace and availibility of parts. But otherwise, either one is still a good car.
  8. you're in for a treat with either car I prefer the looks of even a GTS-t R33 over the R32 Godzilla, but that's just a personal opinion. Just chose whichever suits the way you drive or want to drive, best.
  9. Could always get an NRMA road test done on it... if it's bought through a dealer that shouldn't be a prob. My dad said something about checking the suspension or something like that to see the wear on the car to make sure the odometre wasn't wound back illegally, cause apparently that happens a lot.
  10. that is one nice paint job! My mum recently bought a new Toyota Echo (don't laugh, i know it's crap but it's our 4th car) and it has a pretty damn cool paint job, blue/gold. In one light it's blue, in another gold. It looks pretty awesome even if the car is a piece of junk :S But yeah, AWESOME paint job. Seems your hard work really paid off!
  11. Well, i called Famous, and they said i must be 18 and a half at least to insure with them cause they claim a lot of people have crashed and had to make claims under that age... I must say tho, and taking those people who have respect for Famous into account, I'm not to convinced by the way they do business, being able to pull figures out of the air. As someone said in another forum, it sounds a little unproffesional. That said tho, I will probably end up going with either them or Just Car when the time comes. There was another way i could insure it and i would just like some feedback on this. The car (R33 GTS or GTS-t, dunno yet) is going to be my 18th Bday present from my parents, so i don't have to pay for it, but my dad suggested putting the insurance in his name WITHOUT me on the policy, even tho it'll be my car. Then, if i have an accident i just pay the excess on the claim. This way instead of being charged over $3k it will only cost a little over a grand. Would that work? Any suggestions?
  12. $3200 with just car? those $@#$!!! I rang them this morning they told me $4366 for a turbo and $4166 for a non-turbo. i wanted to reach down the phone line and strangle the guy... anyways, i lodged an online quote for a $16k GTS, just waiting for them to get back to me, cause i got quoted $4233 for a turbo on the online quote...
  13. Cool, thanks! I'll call them in the morning. Got a question though, why should i speak to Robyn? Anyways, thanks a lot!
  14. This is my first time on these boards so my apologies if this is in the wrong spot or has been asked a hundred times before. I live in Canberra and am looking to purchase an R33 GTS Skyline next year. Only problem is I'll only be 18 years old by then (and male...), and most insurance companies don't want anything to do with me cause of it. The best quote i could get was $3,515 a year from 'Young and Cool' and was wondering if anyone else here is my age (or under 25) which insurance company you're with, and how much it costs yearly to insure. Anyways, thanks in advance to anyone who answers. Later.
