Hey guys, I just did an 8 hour trip home yesterday arvo, in my 95 R33 GTS-T. And I noticed it all of a sudden losing alot of power around 3-4000rpm. I got up the road to an auto shop and replaced the fuel filter, which was absolutely chockers with crap. The problem went away. Then a few hours later it did it again. This time the fuel filter was clean. But after checking it and putting the bonnet down, I got going and it was fine. Then same thing down the road a bit later on, slight hesitation at around 3500rpm. By then I just wanted to get home, so I just kept going and stayed off the accelerator. Pulled up at the servo for a drink for a while. Took off again, problem gone. So it's got me beat. I'm guessing it could be some crap in the bottom of the fuel tank getting caught somewhere? It's definetly not a coil misfire, as I had them all replaced with Splitfire ones which cured that problem straight away. The car runs a 3 inch exaust, an aftermarket fuel pump, 11psi, FMIC and a high flow k&N filter in the stock airbox. Any ideas what might be causing this problem

Anyone heading out this weekend?

Hi Darren, Hi Nismo33. Nah I don't have gold rims on my car but I've seen the one your thinking of. I just got a basic set of silver 5 spokers. Heres a couple of pics anyway. Engine work is pretty basic at the moment. Been limited by a few ignition problems that I've been putting off fixing for ages. Namely busted coil packs.

Hey I'm Adam, I've got a midnight purple R33 GTS-T, Matty knows who I am. Been away from the coast for work for the last couple of months, Sucks being away but I'll be back in a week or so. Got the car booked in for some work I've been putting off for too long. Considering what I've got it booked in for it should be making some decent numbers when it comes out. We shall see

Just a few of my R33. Soon to be getting bigger rims and some much needed engine work.

I work in the mines, operating Cat 777, 785 and 789 dump trucks. I own an R33 GTS-T, which I got a loan for before I had this job. I was doing sandblasting before that and it ate up a fair chunk of my pay each week. But it's worth it.

Did a few searches on this, couldn't find exactly what I was after so here goes. I've got a 95 R33 GTS-T. Engine mods include full 3 inch zorst, high flow cat, K&N pod and bleed valve set on 10psi (standard turbo). It's got about 133K on the clock and so far it's been largely trouble free (apart from some hassles with the coil packs). Anyway, got to work on Friday morning and parked. As the engine came back to idle I heard a slight grinding noise. Coming from the turbo side of the engine. Popped the bonnet, had a look and I noticed a little bit of oil had sprayed out where the intake pipe joins on the throttle body. I noticed the exact same thing when the turbo bearings went on my old Diesel 4Runner. I found I can get it to make the same noise if I touch the throttle very slightly at idle, when the engine is hot. I'd also been noticing a bit more of a whine at the very top of the rev range. The other thing I'm thinking of is it could be something to do with the timing belt. When I had it replaced, it was making a bad grinding noise at idle. Ended up taking it back and getting them to loosen the tensioner, noise went away. I'm saying this coz the noise I'm getting now sounds very similar, but I can't pinpoint exactly where it's coming from. Doesn't explain the oil leak though. The car seems to be running fine otherwise. I've been keeping it off boost since I noticed these things. So what do ya's think?

What are you planning to race with? Hopes and dreams? lol

A mate of mine offered me his old Unichip for $200. It came off an EJ20. Are Unichips all the same? Can they be reprogrammed to run an RB25DET?

From memory I think the turo boes have a round port and 3 bolts to fasten it on. Doesn't look like it'll fit. Cheers for that.

Looks like the majority has spoken. However when I was in the market for a Skyline, I also looked at the 300ZX. I was really tempted to buy one, The targa top would've been awesome. But yeah the way I drive it'd be overheating in no time. I don't have any regrets about buying the Skyline.

So the go would be to get an aftermarket ecu? Would I need to go for a whole new computer or would an SAFC do the trick?
-
Well, this morning I pulled all the plugs and regapped them at .8. Cranked the boost back up. Took it for a spin and no more misfire. But later on this evening when the air started to get cold, the misfire came back. Not as bad, but still pissing me off. Should I pull the plugs again and gap them at .7? I'm seriously thinking of investing in a SAFC.

The plugs were all replaced when I got the first 2 coil packs replaced. The first two coils were definetly screwed as the spark was arcing out onto the head. The misfire happens then you really put the boot into it and get up around 6000rpm. I've been told by one fella that the spark might not be stron enough and is getting blown out or something like that. It does it realy bad on 10psi, but only occasionally on 8psi. The respray pretty much needs to be done asap. The clear coat on the roof is peeling off. And it gets worse every time it rains. Can anyone reccomend anyone in Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast QLD who really knows Skylines?

Hey fellas I've currently got a 95 R33 GTS-T with a full 3 inch exaust sheilded pod filter and a bleed valve currently set back to standard boost. I started to get a misfire a while ago when I really gave it a foot full. Soon after, two coils died. It's been mission impossible trying to get replacements, they keep sending me the wrong parts. Anyway I eventually tracked down a couple to replace them, then it started misfiring again. Tried turning the boost back down to standard and it's been fairly good like that. Still gets the occasional misfire, but nothing major. But the question remains, why should it be misfiring. I've looked around here in old threads regarding coils, can't seem to find anyone in exactly the same situation. Some people have told me it could be the fuel pump too. It's been running ok on stock boost for about a month and a half now. If the coils were on their way out, shouldn't they have died completely by now? One option I was discussing with the fella who's doing the work on my car was, chucking in a wolf 3d, and re-doing the ignition with different coils etc. It's a pretty pricy option. Looking at about $2500 all up. But since the car needs a few things, (namely a respray) I'm getting an extension on my loan to do all the work. If I go for the new ECU and ignition, and a respray. I can afford either a clutch upgrade OR a front mount. The stock clutch has slipped real bad on me a couple of times. Only on the odd occasion though. I'm guessing it'll probably get worse with the ECU upgrade and more boost etc. Would it be more beneficial to upgrade the clutch first or the intercooler? Once again, sorry if these questions have been asked before. I don't get much time to browse through these forums often. I just needed to get some ideas on which way to throw my hard earned cash.

Nah, I'm rarely out Thursday night. Not unless I get Friday off work. But that doesn't happen too often.
-
Yeah, what are those little ARC intercoolers like? The ones that bolt up in place of the standard cooler?
-
Ok, I've decided which way I'm planning on going with my R33 GTST. I'm not really aiming for a quick quarter mile time, nor am I after a specific power level. What I want is something responsive, torquey and have power on tap the second I need it. So maybe stick with the standard turbo or just an internal upgrade. I'm on a fairly modest budget. At most about $3500. So any advice on what to do with it? Currently have a 3 inch exuast from the dump pipe back and a high flow cat. Pod filter, modified stock bov, and boost set on 10.5 psi.

I'm a friend of Mat's, so yeah I'm from the Sunshine coast too. Some of u might've seen my car getting around.
-
I was told they're around $250 each. Don't quote me on it though.

haha, damn those Chinese restaurants.

Ok last week a couple of my coils packed it in. After being screwed around by the wreckers I gave up and drove it down to a mechanic in Brisbane running on 4 cylinders. Anyway about half an hour down the highway this red light came on which I thought might've been the engine overheating, but the mechanic told me it was the cat overheating. Got the problem fixed, got home. And the exaust seemed to smell a bit worse than usual, and my brand new 5 inch tip has turned gold (presuming from heat). So have I gutted my cat or what?

Which exhaust should I choose for my R33 GTSt?
Dice replied to Burns's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Mine is basically a bits'n'pieces system. Started off with a Fujitsubo cat back 3 inch system. Was pretty quiet, but the muffler was baffled and it didn't do a great deal for horsepower. Had a 3 inch dump pipe made up and a 3 inch high flow cat fitted. Still quiet, a fair power gain. But on Monday I went the whole hog and had the resonator chopped out, a piece of pipe welded in and swapped the muffler for a 3 inch cannon with a 5 inch tip. So it's all basically straight through except for the cat. Theres a few bends here and there, But I don't think I'd really notice the difference if they weren't there. Rumbles a fair bit even when your idling along. But it's not too bad. Hasn't brought any cop attention yet (touch wood). But when I floor it, damn does it howl! -
Yeah I had the same problem when I tried disconnecting the bypass. Wouldn't idle at all. Looks like I'll be going for a hybrid valve too.
