  1. Hi all, Looking for some advice from those in the know - my R34 GTT has been in the shop for the last couple weeks for a few tasty upgrades but it seems that somehow during the process of getting it back up and running (possibly a fulty ECU - yet to confirm this?) we've lost compression on two cylinders... The workshop is now going to rebuild the engine free of charge, and while it's out (and hence no labour cost) I am toying with the idea of chucking in some Tomei Poncams - thinking the Type B 260 duration. The other mods are: FMIC 3" Exhaust Garrett GT3076 IW .82 exhaust low mount High flowed 700cc injectors Haltech P2000 ECU Fuel Pump Custom induction Standard manifolds Now, i've found two schools of thought on this - some say the cams will improve low end / midrange (which is what I want, to compensate for some of the lag from the bigger turbo) and others say that cams will ruin my bottom end and make the car a cop to drive until 4,500 rpm+ It is a daily driven street car so useable power is what i'm after (in the 250-300rwkw range) Can anyone shed some light on what these cams will do for me?
  2. Car not getting tuned til next Wednesday... damnit! Ah well such is life.
  3. Man I am so hanging to get my car back and see what it is like with 250-300rwKws... Hopefully it will be tomorrow...!
  4. Mine seemed to have started doing it a little (nothing too bad) a while back, but after fitting my lowered king springs it has cured it... just spins away now... Good luck finding a cause - if you do be sure to post it up in case anyone else is having the same issue.
  5. Harey: Did you get the pineapples done yesterday? Did you notice any difference...?
  6. I did actually read a review / comparison in Motor magazine a few weeks back against a Porsche GT3 in which they couldn't get the new GTR to go quicker than 4.5s 0-100 which i found very interesting... Most others as you say report around the 3.5 mark...
  7. Case in point: The VE HSV GTS (while still a cool car) Holden claim a 4.86s 0-100 but no independent reviewer has gotten it to go quicker than 5.5s (although that is with traction control on i believe...)
  8. On the note of clutches - I'm getting an Extreme clutch that Japanese Motorsport recommended - It's still organic but apparently should hold 300rwKw and still be kind enough for street use... can't remember the model off the top of my head... Fingers crossed the car will be ready on Friday (which also happens to be my bday - nice present to myself! )
  9. What sort of 0-100 time do you think you can manage with that setup?
  10. Are there any drawbacks to having these things installed on a daily driver...?
  11. How much do these pineapples cost and where can i get them from? Will any suspension place know what I'm talking about if i go in? I still have standard shocks but slightly lower king springs - sounds like the pineapples might help me out a bit?
  12. Lol. Yes, yes, GTRs are great - we've all heard it before. Like previously stated I was all for selling the GTT and getting a 34 GTR but they are just so overpriced still at 10 years old. I used to have a 32 Gtst and although a 32 GTR would be fun at $15-20k personally I feel they are just way too old for an every day driver - no offense of course! This is really a thread about RWD Skylines and what is achievable in 0-100 times, essentially with 'cop friendly' launches, compared to the similar rivals ie WRX, STI, XR6T, SS etc etc
  13. I was actually planning on selling the GTT and getting a 34 GTR - was for sale for several months but there was no way I was getting what I wanted for it... and the changeover price for a good low km fairly stock 34 GTR was going to be well over 30 grand... Got advised by many people that it wasn't worth it, and that I wouldn't be satisfied with a stock GTR anyway. Then to modify it would cost twice as much as the GTT etc etc... Decided to stick with the GTT and do turbo etc so i guess i'll see what it's like at the end of the week when i get it back! Not like I'll probably ever have the chance to drive a 34 GTR to compare so I guess it probably doesn't matter! I went the larger .82 housing on the 3070 hoping the boost response would be a bit more linear, and less likely to fry the tyres when it came on compared to the .63... Hopefully I was right...
  14. Wow some big discrepancies there...! 4.6 with 170rwkw (albeit in a 32 which is lighter) and only 5.75 with 265rwkw in a 34? A much heavier less powerful XR6T can easily do low 5s... I guess it all comes down to wheelspin in the skyline then...? What is the best way to get a 34 to hold traction? Suspension, tyres? I think i'll be running my rears down around 20psi when i get it back...
  15. I guess you could always try not putting your foot to the floor in the 250kw+ Skyline and feeding it in..? Guess that can be a hard ask in the heat of the moment. Will have to see how i go next weekend i suppose...! I don't want to get beaten by a fairly standard skyline (or a bloody WRX) after spending the amount I just have for 250-300kw so i might just get some damn good tyres...! I guess your usual inner-city drag doesn't start off with a full on launch though anyway, it's usually the feel each other out through the first half of first, then once you both know you are going to go put the power down... Am I right to assume that in that situation the 250-300kw Skyline is going to leave the 200kw one, or the SS / XR8 / WRX in the dust (obviously that is then taking the launch out of it...)?
  16. I was thinking of sticking some pzero 265/19/30s on but at $900 each that's getting a bit pricey... Guess i'll see how bad it is when i get it back at the end of next week and decide how much $$$ i need to spend to get traction...!
  17. And just a light launch, say just enough so you don't bog down - an easy 5s flat wouldn't be out of the question I assume? I'd think that with that much power the pull towards the top of 1st and into 2nd should move it fairly quickly even without a great launch? And speaking of tyres, does running a lower pressure on street tyres / rims (say 18s or 19s) make any difference to traction...?
  18. Okay guys, just a theoretical topic for some discussion. My 34 GTT is currently in the shop getting a Haltech P2000, GT3076, 800cc injectors, clutch, fuel pump and all the rest - hoping for a 250rwkw daily 15psi and 300(ish)rwkw 20psi tune. Now, my thoughts are turning to 0-100 km/h times. Obviously this question is a bit like "how long is a piece of string" - depending on driver, tyres, road conditions etc etc but i thought it might prove interesting to hear other's thoughts (and if possible timed 0-100 times) from those that have or have driven 250-300 rwkw skylines. The new XR6Ts apparently do 5.1 seconds all day long without the need to really stall it, while 34 GTRs (stock) can do 4.9 if banged off the rev limiter and dumped so I guess i'm interested in a comparison (not that i would give my 34 up for an XR6T - well at least not until the family requirements change and the 34 ends up as a track car!). What does everyone think (or know...)?
  19. Don't have my old dyno sheet handy but... R34 - RB25DET NEO Previous: Custom FMIC Apexi POD Profec B 3" Turbo back exhaust Everything else standard 185kw @ 13.5psi The car went into the shop yesterday for: GT3076 IW .82 rear 800cc injectors Haltech P2000 ECU (Map sensor) Bosch fuel pump Hoping for: 250(ish) @ 15psi and 300+ @ 20psi Will post results and dyno sheets when i get the car back next week.
  20. To: R33 Chris: Sorry - can't send PMs til i've posted 10 times... not sure where the logic in that is...? I've actually decided not to sell and forgotten to delete the post - I can't get anywhere near what i've spent on it back so I'm just going to do a Haltech / 3076r 300+ kw build instead and hang onto it. I'll just wait and get a 35 GTR in a few years time instead of the 34. Cheers mate.
  21. Just spent two months trying to sell mine - quite a few more mods and no one is even interested in it for $17k. I've given up it's not worth the loss of $$! Good luck with it though...!
  22. Car located in Adelaide. Offers over $17k will be considered for quick sale.
  23. Make that $19,000 ono!
  24. Due to finally having (most) of the money for a 34 GTR V-spec I'm getting rid of my beloved R34 GTT to fund the rest. This is the only reason i'm selling - it has been a great car for the last two and half years and has caused me absolutely no problems. I imported it myself completely stock 2.5 years ago and have spent well over $30k in total. Custom front mount intercooler 3" exhaust with dump pipe Greddy turbo timer Greddy electronic boost control NGK Iritop 7 plugs 19" deep dish rims lowered King Springs Kenwood head unit 10 stacker cd Kenwood N'fit front splits Apexi white faced indiglo boost guage Interior Immaculate. Imported stock 2.5 years ago - all new parts with receipts and dyno sheet - 185rwKw. Serviced every 5000kms. 87,000 kms $20,000 ono (an absolute bargain). Hoping for a quick sale to begin my search for a GTR.
