Well two days down the track and my tacho has lost it again (not as bad as usual) I think it may have to do with a screw which has been used, it is slightly corroded which would cause bad contact.

PM'd Lookign for a cluster

So I finally fixed my problem. Along with replacing the capacitor I also heated the solder on each component to remelt. This also included taking off the fact and melting the solder on the top 4 prongs that run the electromagnet. Took the car out for a test drive and it was working well. Bonus is that i know it accurate as i compared it to my SAFC2 readout and was almost spot on (within 50rpm at 5000revs) When you take the needle off, push it around to the limit (past 9000) and make a note of where it was sitting. When you put it back in put it in around 6000rpm make and then slide it around to the point where you took it out. This is what i did and its still accurate. Hope everyone finds this useful.

Ticking In Engine At Idle
matticus replied to s13-steve's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I would go with injectors on this one. The ford XR6 Turbo has the same problem from factory and seeing as they based that engine off the skyline they must have thought it was normal If it really is the injectors then I wouldn't be worrying about it. -
Finally got around to doing this one on the weekend and my tacho is still playign up my next move will be to resolder all the contacts. Im guessing there is a possibility that a contact is not secured to the PCB anymore. If i cant find anything ill probably bite the bullet and buy a new cluster. or maybe a tacho from nissan if there are any left...

As the topis states i need a new wiper cowl seal. Mine is cracked to buggery. Does anyone know where i could lay my hands on a new seal? Thanks Matt

The sound isn't always there. ill check to see if it in 4th. In terms of fixing, I know I need to change the clutch soon, what else would need to be done?

Well I finally got one of the NVH guys at work out over lunch to listen to the chatter. Found out that the sound of coming from the gearbox/gear stick. When I am accelerating in 5th gear and push the gear stick up and to the left the chatter sound becomes worse but when the gear stick is pulled slightly downward it goes away. We were thinking it may be gear boot related. Has anyone else had this issue before? Cheers

Hey Everyone, I was cleaning the car and a letter dropped out from behind the glove box. I think it might be rego papers of some form? Anyone know what it is?
-
I got it to happen in third but it wasn't as prominent as it is in 5th. Ill check out the studs today. Is it possible that it was a bad batch of fuel?
-
thanks for the replies guys, when driving home on some nice road it didn't really sound like marbles in a can. oddly enough the only sort of sound I can compare it to was two pieces of paper hitting each other really quickly. It also isn't a constant noise. Ill put some octane booster in over the weekend to see if it helps. Might also go through the engine bay to see if anything is loose.

Cheers mate, Ill check it again during lunch and give a better description. Ill also get someone to tell me the A/F ratio during high boost...I really dont want to be screwing the engine.

those cool electric gauges are great...when you have the SAFC mounted where you can see it easily

I thought 14.7 was stoich and below this would be rich.

Hi All, I was driving my R33 home from work today and noticed when accelerating from 80 - 100 in 5th under heavy load there was a chatter coming from the engine bay somewhere. Not too sure what it is but I did notice that my A/F ratio is running pretty rich (13 - 13.5) I took off the pod recently and put back the stock airbox however I think the SAFC was tuned with the pod on. Any thoughts on what the sound might be?

Buy some CRC contact cleaner. We use this at work and it does the job well. Also, i plan on doing a bit more fault finding on the tacho/speedo issues. It looks like the screws holding in the tacho act as voltage/ground/signal terminals. Im thinking if using OFHC copper wire with nylon bolts to get a clean signal to the tacho (one of the bolts is pretty corroded) When i get this done ill post up the results.

Well took my cluster apart today (R33 GTST) and looked to see if i could find any issues as my cluster is messing up. All contacts were good and continuous (thank god for multimeter's) I went to undo the three screws the from the back of the cluster which hold the tacho in and noticed that one of the screws was different and severely corroded. I cleaned the screw and tried to clean the corrosion out of the screw slot and after stating the car it seemed a little better. Maybe tomorrow (if its a clear day) ill get a new screw and some contact cleaner to try and clear the terminal on the tacho. Hopefully this is the problem and will fix the dodgy tacho.

Ive got the Regu 06&R and its nice and quiet. When you give it some it sounds very nice but deffinitly no drone.

Found an SAU club card on my car yesterday when cleaning the engine bay. Dont know how long its been there...didnt look that old though.
