It featured a track (Oran Park) test between a 300+ kw XR6T and a 220 kw Nissan R34 GTT. The R34 turned out to be the better car...Why? Honestly...let's come up with some figures: XR6T 1700 kg 300+kw rear-wheel drive tiptronic R34 1400 kg 220kw rear-wheel drive tiptronic XR6T 176kw per tonne R34 157kw per tonne Also, both cars were driven by professionals - Warren Luff (XR6T); Ric Shaw (R34) Warren commented that the skyline seemed to have more power than the XR6T. Any comments. Has the T just been out-classed by a similar (non 4WD) car with much less power? ktford Posted: May 6 2004, 07:21 AM Put your spoon between your legs & say bi bi. I love the XR6T. My post was a legitimate query on what everyone thinks on how to improve the performance of the XR6T not just in terms of power output but as an overall package. True, it's still early days but the progress being made is terrific. Scotty CCC...you don't have to react in such a defensive manner. The performance of the XR6T doesn't need improving at all. You must take another look at the cars & ask yourself a question of why they're of different performance levels. Then you might make a decision to think about what you say before you just try to envoke abuse (which I believe is your ambition) from people who'd obviously take it to heart any criticism of their choice of ride. I remember the drivers also praising various aspects of the T. I think some of the comments could be taken with a grain of salt. I think as proved by some members that the T has a huge performance modification potential. For starters the DVD is in that Series targeted towards the Performance Stickers and Bodykits brigade. What was the criteria for judging the difference between the cars. Is it straight line acceleration ( I think the APS Ph2 XR6T has already shown it's merit at Eastern Creek - into the 10's already) Is it handling? (The BA has already shown it's merit in Targa Tasmania and GTP) Is it Performance Stickers and Bodykits factor ( The Datsun wins hands down with the "Doof doof" brigade - The Falcon is too 'Skippy' for these people) The basic fact still remains that the Falcon has a larger base engine (4 litre as opposed to 2.6 litre) which makes it a bigger air pump, thus a bigger explosion in the cylinder, thus more torque generated, thus more 'twist' or pulling power. The comparison falls apart on the fact that you are comparing a 4 door family sports sedan with a pseudo sports two door car which is a poor man's version of it's GTR sibling. -------------------- ducatijb Posted: May 6 2004, 09:04 AM Ahh Plonky ...youv'e still got it Rob19 enjoy the forums -------------------- one gripe Luffy had, and he mentioned it a few times, was the suspension of the T. But he does point out that the T is a road car and not a track car though. Why is it that people critisize all jap import cars just because there are a heap of jabbers out there that wack stickers on them with over the top body kits. If you take the time to look over some of these smartly engineered cars you'll see that not all of them are jabbing pieces of crap. Ok now I prepare for the onslaught of replys. He didn't say he personally preferred the R34, just that the people on the DVD did. Why did they say R34 was a better car? Was it based purely on performance around OP?   2. I have actually driven an R34 GTT Tiptronic. The transmission does suck. I think the best thing that could happen to these cars is to have a sex change (auto to manual). Ric Shaw gave this as his one and only advise to my cousin. He has now been convinced. Can anyone lend him $3,500?
  3. Here's a bit of a scoop guys...let me know what you think. My cousin's car (R34 Gtt tiptronic) was tested against a XR6 turbo and he lost! Here are the stats: 1999 R34 GTT Tiptronic -vs- 2002 XR6 Turbo Tiptronic Power (155 kw at the wheels) 233 kw at flywheel -vs- 300 kw at the flywheel Greddy emanage tuned by SAS -vs- ChipTorque piggyback system Greddy E01 boost set at .75 bar Greddy FMIC K&N high flow panel filter -vs- Cold Air Intake system HKS Dump Pipe (3") HKS front pipe (3") High Flow Cat (3") 3.5" cat back exhaust (HKS?) -vs- Hi Tech Mufflers 3" exhaust system 18" ROH Drift R's 235 @ front -vs- standard wheels and tyres 265 @ rears Tein HA adjustable suspension -vs- standard suspension -front dampers set @ 14/16 hard -rear dampers set @ 8/16 hard (where 0 is softest and 16 is hardest) Power to Weight = 155 kw per tonne -vs- Power to Weight = 176 kw per tonne There's a bit of confusion about the R34's power output. My cous had shown me his dyno sheet from SAS after the Emanage install and it read 155 kw at the wheels(233 at flywheel). However, the "before" and "after" graphs clearly showed a 30.5 kw increase (which means that the "before" reading should be 124.5 (187 kw at flywheel) which seemed incorrect) He had another dyno sheet from Unique AutoSports which was done while the car was fully stock. It read 141.9 kw at the wheels. Thus he had been telling us that the current figure should be around 172 kw at the wheels (259 kw at flywheel). I don't which is which. The test was conducted at Oran Park with W Luff driving the Ford and Rick Shaw driving the Nissan. All up they did approximately 3 sets of 3 laps. This is what Rick had to say of the R34: 1. Great car to drive 2. Tiptronic system is slow, he had to adjust his driving style. 3. Trans feels like it needed a gear in between 2nd and 3rd. Certain parts of the track 2nd was revving too high and 3rd was revving too low. 4. Lacks bottom and mid-range grunt, but once in full song, car is very quick. 5. Cornering speed is equal to the Ford. (This is unbelievable). 6. Slower on the straight. 7. He was using 2nd and 3rd gears only around the track. 8. The trick with the Nissan (drifting) was to left foot brake while getting the bum out then apply throttle to induce wheel spin. With the Ford it was apparently just a matter of planting the foot onto the accelerator and drift is induced. Both drivers were pushing the cars. Cous showed me a video of both doing drift action in turn one. Lots of smoke coming out of the rears on both. First lap the Ford was way ahead (2-3 car lengths) on the straight. Second lap the Nissan was ahead by about a car length. My cousin was disappointed! He felt that he let the Skyline enthusiasts down on this one. He was wondering whether any of you would have any suggestions or comments. Perhaps the damper settings were not on optimum. Perhaps the front/rear height adjustments were not right. A friend was suggesting that if the front was way too low compared to the rear the weight distribution would not be ideal and would make the rears too skatey. He checked the air/fuel maps on the emanage and all cells (16x16) were on "0". This indicated factory settings. That may be the answer to the low to mid range lack of grunt dilemma. I think the bottom line is that the XR6 with an extra 60 odd kws in its arsenal is simply more powerful. I could just imagine how a 300 kw line would fare against a 300 kw XR6T.

  6. I have a cousin who had just done that. Full E-manage suite. He's running .8 bar with a profec e01 which is part of the e-manage suite. Together with this he has the following mods: trust fmic hks dump pipe hks 3" front pipe high flow cat 3.5" hks hiper cat back k&n panel filter (stock airbox) tein ha adj coilovers 18" (235 at front, 265 at rear) the car's gained an extra 30.5 kw at the wheels. Any further details contact Peter from Advan at Silverwater.
  7. Droooool!!! I don't know where he's kept his sheet. He was playing around with the e-manage yesterday and was telling meabout this feature called RPM offset. You can apparently adjust the boost rate throughout the rpm range (8 rpm points, as in between 0 to 9900rpm) so you could achieve consistent pressure throughout the curve. I'm so jealous.

  9. Sorry Franks, but this is the story. The car has the following: FMIC dump pipe 3" front pipe high flow cat 3.5" cat back K&N filter all these did not work because he needed the computer. He said it had something to do with the fact that it was a tiptronic model.. now that he has the computer, the 30.5 kw gain was achieved.
  10. I think he's running boost at approximately 0.8 bar. This, I was told, is the limit on stock R34 turbos.
  11. OK, OK, OK...this is the story so far. The car was pulled out from *** because they couldn't do it. It was eventually tuned by Peter from Advan at Silverwater. The car is running sweet with at least a 30.5 kw gain at the wheels. Cous loves it. It is the full suite as Mr B-Man listed in his post. I've seen the Profec E-01 and it's fantastic. It displays (in real time) such info as boost (your choice of either kPa, kg/cm2, mmHg, bar or psi reading); throttle position; A/F mixture; rpm; etc. I guess his one mistake was to entrust the car with so called experts.
  12. I have a cousin who bought a full set of Greddy Emanage hardware. Brought his car to ********* at ******* for installation. They were not able to figure out the installation but still charged my cousin $600 odd for the service. Most of the service charged was for downloading info from the internet so that they could figure out what to do. It really sucks! See for yourself and beware of so called experts.
