  1. heheh I didn't even realise that you pulled out... lol you missed out... Great units
  2. or you could grab a datalogit for the powerfc and map all knock on the map. Datalogits are $500, but can make the powerfc much easier to tune.. The powerfc will read below 60, you have to look at the graph, just like you will be looking at the knock link...
  3. the hand controller on the power FC seems to do that same job.. The Knock link is actually less accurate by the looks. Its got 3 leds on it.. How could that be better than a full graph and an engine light flashing in your face?
  4. dude, to put it straight forward, with that kind of setup, why WOULDN'T you have an aftermarket ecu.. for $900 more, you could get a Engineering powerfc and make that thing go A LOT harder.
  5. this man is right on the money.
  6. I was just thinking... If it worked really well... Would you consider purchasing it? lol Seriously... If you already have oil and water lines made up, you'lljust need to change the fittings..
  7. hehe sorry, full boost - between 14 and 16 psi. I am going to go to townsville and give it a good tune, but I don't know when I'll be able to make the trip. Might be heading up with a mate cause he needs to tune his beast too. Going to be a bit of a waste of money but I guess if I want to get anywhere I will have to just do it. Surely he'll only need it for an hour to "touch it up" so hopefully I'll get away with $100 or so.
  8. no worries 1. Haven't managed any AV gas yet. Getting close though.. 2. Haven't been able to leave town to see another tuner. The dude that did my car, sadly is the best we got. 3. I want full boost in 2nd \ 3rd all in by about 3500rpm max, earlier if possible. Questions about the RB30de that sky30 dropped in cubes - Having that low of Compression, was it a dog off boost?
  9. I've got no standard bits I just wanted to change the compressor and and a few smaller things like that retaining the core. Maybe I should just wait till garret releases this back end and put it on my GT30, and sell the VG30 housing?
  10. thats awesome. Can you get the stats of the turbo? So guys, what do you think is a final solution? leave the VG30 on, and get a smaller compressor wheel at the same time so the the ex side of things can get the compressor wheel spooling earlier, instead of this one where its too heavy and taking forever to build up speed? I'm thinking thats the problem, the comp wheel is too heavy and grabby creating alot of weight on the exhaust side of things. Maybe even a smaller comp wheel, and the RB25 ex housing? Becuse when I take this turbo off, I want to do it all at once to prevent fcuking around as I'm broke... I would like a final suggestion from these people and anyone else that thinks they know what the go is : Cubes Discopotato DaleFZ1 R31 Nismoid BHdave Thanks guys, you have been an excellent help for me.. I really appreciate it.
  11. thanks for the explanation. NOt sure about a time frame, will call the turbo place tomorrow and see if they are open. If not, it won't be until th new year. Its not a going to be a big job, thank god lol.
  12. well something is stuffed to be making that much lag with a supposedly small exhaust housing
  13. second is 15psi at 5000rpm Tried tuning it differently made no difference
  14. 3rd gear is what concerns me, and its coming on at 4500rpm... thats pretty bad you know
  15. I'm so confused. Why is BHDave getting boost so early then?... I want that...
  16. dude, I think its common for a skyline to no make much of a noise. I have tried lots of them and they were all quiet. Also, its about how much boost you are running. are you running more than 10psi?
  17. yeah I think I can get away with slapping a RB25 housing on this turbo for less than $100. My uncle and aunt own a very very large trucking company in mackay, and the turbo repair guy is 50 meters away. (they get all of their volvo turbos done there) I am going to get the turbo guy to grind a Standard RB25 Turbo Exhaust housing to fit a Garrett GT30 cartridge, and then drive my car over one of the truck pits, remove the dump, disconnect the Water and oil lines, remove the turbo intake, undo the 4 bolts that hold the turbo on, and take it to him to fit the housing. This should take less than 2 hours. He should be able to fit the pre prepped housing in less than 5 mins. Then once the original housing is back on, I am going to get 3 new T3 flange gaskets, bolt the turbo back on, intake, oil and water lines, and the dump and front pipe... This should take 3 hours, so I am looking at about a day and around the $100 mark to reduce my lag from 4500rpm to 3200 rpm. Now thats going to make the car drive 1000000000 times better. Absolutely no adjustments will need to be made, as the flanges on the VG30 and the RB25 turbo flanges are exactly the same. Think about it, full boost or up to 20psi at 3200rpm? Than means the car starts making power at about 2500 rpm. Nice and low. The larger compressor cover should keep the air nice and cool, and hopefully it won't surge too much. If it does a little, I will get a powerfc boost control kit, that should help it alot. Will be a nice little experiment. oh, and I will also get the turbo dude to grind out the wastegate hole to give it a little more flow when it opens as the standard one is only small. He said its not a problem to do. This will also help prevent surging. Here's one last thing. I am not going to get rid of this VG30 for a damn good reason. You know why? This turbo setup doesn't belong on this block! It belongs on a RB30..... and RB30 should be able to get this VG30 setup spooling at full boost by about 3200rpm....with massive amounts of torque, and the housing should also be efficient enough to drag the RB30's arse up to 280rwkw. They are bigger than you think when ground out to fit a GT30. So I am gonig to keep it for when I do a RB30 upgrade. Then I'll put it on, as the standard RB25 Exhaust housing would be way too restrictive for a RB30. hehehe hope I didn't ramble too much. Oh and Dale, if this works out well, and runs just as I thought, I will be able to source you a GT30 core with a .7 comp cover, the better 6 blade wheel, and and no ex housing for about $1400. Then all you'll need is a second hand RB25 ex housing, and you'll have the same low down punch as me I can't wait to see the torque curve, its gonna be fat. I am not really worried about the top power. As long as the setup is good for 250rwkw - 270rwkw, then thats heaps (for a standard bottom end) Has anyone got any thoughts on all of this?
  18. horsepowerinabox sell pre done rebuilds for rb26's for $5500. All you have to do is bolt on your head and drop it back into the car. They use forged pistons too.
  19. dave, you are right on the money. I was thinking this in my f**king sleep! My mate has about 10 Standard R33 Exhaust housings - I will get one machined up to suit this GT30 and see whatit does. It should be more than happy to provide 250rwkw, with a bucket load of torque. What was the top end like though? Did it feel tired? Or did it pull, just limiting the power level to something like 260rwkw like the hi flows are maxing out on?
  20. seen a few people posting 250rwkw to 260rwkw.. GCG high Flows are supposed to be pretty good.
  21. so really, if I wanted the same spool time, I'd need a HKS rear and external gate? I don't want to do this.... But if I have to................... Thanks for explaining that cubes.
  22. omg no, that is wrong. You DO NOT need to plumb your catch can tank to the induction of your turbo. Block that one up...
  23. well, bhdave is getting 20psi at 3200rpm with the same setup. I highly doubt not having an external gate has anything to do with the lag. He's got the same compressor housing, TO4S wheel, and .63 housing. 20psi at 3200rpm...I want that... How do I get it... I tested the tension on the wastegate actuator, and it took both hands to pull the gate and arm open even just a little bit. I think its pretty damn tight.
  24. as I said before I am not worried about top power at the moment due to fuel. I just want to get rid of this lag!
  25. If I had this, I'd be the happiest guy in the world. I need to work out whats wrong!
