NZ R33 Long Term Build
R3N3 replied to R3N3's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
new covers and fuel filter. They didn’t come with the original coil cover but that doesn’t phase me. I may do these ones wrinkle red also, for the update fuel system, I want to do create a mount on the strut tower, something like this: I found this image in SAU, so in my usual style I’m stealing other people’s good ideas… I don’t need the flex fuel parallel fitting but I want to get the FPR, fuel filter and flex sensor all neatly packaged low on the strut tower but still be able to have easy access to the filter for servicing. I may even try to get something 3d printed for that OEM look (if I can be bothered) -

I did think of it but I don’t see me firming up the suspension any time soon haha -

So I have managed to track down some finned RB covers for a reasonable-ish price (think half a crack rock instead of a full one).. These will be getting the same weld treatment, as there is breaks in the fins to fit the intake pipe over the top.. also on the weekend, I completed the sound deadening behind the back seat and on the parcel shelf. It’s times like these you realise how small cars of this era are.. While I was at it and the rear suspension top hats were accessible, I clicked the adjustable suspension to its softest….. but I still cringe when I see speed bumps in car parks.. -

@Dose Pipe Sutututu and @Duncan sorry to be a pain, any chance you could link an example? I did some googling but not sure I’m looking at the right thing.. -

So the quest for “comfort” continues… The cabin always smells like fumes… I have a feeling that this is due to the VTA catch can setup I have (not a legality issue NZ), as the ATP can puts it right against the firewall, right next to where the HVAC draws air from (well I think anyway). I have removed the charcoal canister (not legally required to my knowledge) and cut the lines under the car, which may also be contributing? I have noticed that ATPerformance do a re-circ version of their catch can, so I will get that and hopefully that helps. -
Haha, true! The plan is to switch out a working motor with another working and better motor…

Awesome! I will compare the sound. I ended up dialling in the launch and rotational idle 100% many bangs and flames were had. Although I’m a little worried about my stock oil pump gears…

Definitely better than the classic one. i have also been toying with rotational idle (for wank factor) and launch control. Any tips for launch control ie. Ignition v injector cut etc? -

Minor update: Fueling: I have decided to add E85/100 into the mix for a bit more power, so I purchased an ethanol content sensor. I have also never been happy with my fuel plumbing/filter arrangement, so I am going to purchase a nice IDF750 fuel filter like @Murray_Calavera. Once it’s all here I will work out how to package it all neatly so it’s not that visible in the engine bay. ECU: Haltech have released new firmware for the Elite ECU and they have a new MAP prediction for tuning idle @Dose Pipe Sutututu not sure if I explained that right? Anyway, idle is now amazing and so smooth. Throttle blip is now 95% there! I was driving round with the laptop this morning doing some tuning (keyboard mashing more like it) to figure some things out. -

Gone are the days of cheap RB’s (in NZ anyway): RB30 block from wrecker - $1000-1200 Complete engine from wrecker $6.5k (S2) to $8k (Neo) I have my eye on a rebuilt Neo head and that’s $4k…. Barra would be much more economical. -
Yeah, I think they are bringing out a bigger display. I think a 10”?? the ability to programme the buttons on the display is pretty good too.

The ic7 will be firmware updated to allow 2-way CAN communication allowing additional inputs for the ECU. It will also be a master device now, so I believe it can act as a controller for the PDM. You can also customise logos etc.
-
I’m assuming you have seen the latest haltech news re. The IC7 updates? Sounds like that’s just what you need..

Sound deadening is nearly complete. I managed to use 3x sheets of Dynamat for each door. Lined the complete inner and outer skin. I will be doing under the back seat and parcel tray next. Hopefully that reduces the fuel pump noise considerably.. Speakers amp and subs are next on the list for purchasing -

So today I got painting my rocker covers. There was a last minute change with the colours after I consulted with my 7yr old son: loving the look of the shaved/smoothed covers! I buggered up the timing cover (which will also be black) as I got a little too trigger happy with the heat gun… So I will try and re-do it tomorrow. -
Sending my car in for a 360kw setup next month, need advice.
R3N3 replied to IM-32-FK's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Very true im sitting on 320kw and soon figured this out during the planning stage. I knew higher figures are in the future of the car, so I made the decision to future proof a lot of the build (fuel system, exhaust etc). My clutch is currently the main thing stopping me adding more power and im also eyeing up a NPC clutch (the sprung twin disk). I am confused about the pull push converter though, as I’m not sure which way it needs to be ie. convert R33 push type to a pull or convert a R34 pull type to push?? -
Awesome work. It’s a bit unfortunate about the issues but hopefully they continue to develop them further. I have just the top hat in the 33 so didn’t encounter the same issues other than the cover being a tight fit. I also have their radiator fan shroud (A+) and will be buying there full AC kit shortly.

So I purchase the Haltech tyre pressure monitor kit. Originally I purchased the external valve cap one, but they were rather large and would look ugly on the nice new meisters.. so I exchanged for the internal one. However, when it came to fitting them, the valve size used on the meisters is smaller than normal, so they don’t fit. I now need to drill the hole for the valve to be larger in my nice new wheels.. They are now on the CBF pile and will sort one day when I can be bothered. -

The 20 covers have been shaved ready for painting: im still deciding on a paint/colour scheme. I always thought I’d keep it silver but red covers never look bad… I’m thinking wrinkle red cam covers and wrinkle black timing belt cover and coil cover. I will also repaint the exhaust manifold heat shield in black and powder coat the fuel rail black too. I ran out of brass crimps for the last of the alarm tidying, so just waiting for these to arrive. I also ordered some Dynamat to soundproof the interior. @Dose Pipe Sutututu I did have this planned, I’m not just copying everything you do…
