Hey Richard, I think there's been quite a bit of discussion on the oil and fluids we need to use for the v35. Of the back of my head, I think i read that a vq35 engines use matic J and vq25 uses matic D. I could be mistaken, so best have a check around the forum. I am sure there's a thread about it! Hope this help!

Hey Mike! Yeah... it's sometimes hard to find a Mobil with 98! Just funny as I used to remember when I had my Mazda, I was eager to find a Mobil with 95! Was living in the city then and the Mobil only had 98! Anyway, from the type of fuel used thread in the forum, seems like the aussies are finding BP actually being a better fuel for our cars as it seems to be giving better fuel consumption. I haven't actually tried BP but was thinking of actually giving it a go as well. But it seems like we are getting fairly similar numbers based on the computer although I do have to say I don't really push the car much so far and am pretty sure that number will drop if I punch the accelerator more!
-
Yeah! Thanks for the updates on fuel as well! I've been using Mobil 98 so far (trying to boycott BP for their blunder on the Mexican Gulf) So far the computer is showing 7.9km/litre which equates to approx 12.6L/100 km with stop go traffic from home to work everyday. I might try Gull 98 as well next time and see what kinda return it's giving me!

Thanks for the update on the Gull fuel James! I think we did discuss about the fuel earlier on this thread actually... anyway, if you are fueling Gull, there's a station on Ti Rakau Rd that is usually 4c cheaper because it's a unmanned station. Not too sure if the 98 there is cheaper as well or not. Anyway guys, I found out something today. Every thursday evening, the Mobil station on Smales Road near Dannemora has discounts on its fuel! Saw today 91 at 1.67 instead the usual 1.78! Apparently my colleague told me it's only on Thursday evening. The 98 was I think 2c cheaper only though which I filled up my car with.
-
Haha... don't think I want to put 91 in mine definitely.... Yeah, there's really no section for us Kiwi.... so this thread so far is probably closest to what we have! As for the auto tiptronic, mine seems to be all ok! I think response is good enuff.... I've occasionally put it on manual when I have a clear road ahead in front of a set of lights!

Hey James! Welcome to the forum! Yeah, I was hoping that this thread will actually pull us Kiwis together in this forum and discuss NZ specific stuff for our v35 and m35! So far, gotta say I've met a lot of nice ppl here! Anyway, I think I read in another thread that Chris Rogers has some single and double din face plate for the S1 v35 which i think is the same for the m35... not 100% sure so perhaps it's worth checking wif him. As for fuel, I've been fueling mine with 98 so far as well... Mobil is having that 8c off promo with a car wash so it's pretty good if u need to get a car wash. So James, you've been filling ur car with Gull's 98? Isn't that the one with the bio-fuel or is this a different one that Gull is offering? I've only used Gull once in my previous Mazda 6 but saw that since it's a bio-fuel, not all cars can use it n hence I've stopped since then. Hey Mike, good news finding this Anycar link.... do update us on how things go! This could be something great for the stereo!

Ticking Sound When Accelarating From A Stop
win4ever replied to win4ever's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Hey James, update me on how u get on with this! Been super busy at work and don't think I'll get the chance to do this til next month. So if you test it out and it works, I'll do it ASAP as well! Cheers! -
Hey Pat! Welcome to the group mate! I am a 1st time Skyline owner myself too and has nothing but great words to say about the car! Just awesome esp considering the price of the car. Doubt there's anything in the market at its price range that can better the car! Looking forward to seeing some photos of your car mate! Cheers!

Ticking Sound When Accelarating From A Stop
win4ever replied to win4ever's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Thanks Micah! Seems like most ppl are commenting that a simple lubricating work will do the trick! Planning to send the car into City Nissan after another 1 or 2k km, so see if that can be sorted out together. Or do you reckon it's a really simple DIY job? Cheers! -

Hey Nick, can you explain further on what I need to do to check this out? Thanks! -
Guys, saw this on Auto Trader today..... http://www.autozam.co.nz/details.asp?vehicle_id=1116292 Relatively high mileage, but the price looks awesome!

Ticking Sound When Accelarating From A Stop
win4ever replied to win4ever's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Thanks for that Will! Anyone else has experience the same noise, please share! Or anyone has ideas of what it might be, do share too! Cheers! -
Ticking Sound When Accelarating From A Stop
win4ever replied to win4ever's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Alvin, yes I know which noise you are refering to. This "tick" noise is a different sound to that. It's a sound that's when you release the brake and press the accelerator, there's a "tick" when the car start moving. Not when it has moved to a certain speed when the ABS test comes in. Nick, I do think the noise probably comes from the rear. Not sure if it's the right wheel but when I lower the window, I do hear the "tick" sound coming from the rear. Any idea what's the reason and what I need to do to sort it or is it just a sound that I can ignore? Thanks! -
Ticking Sound When Accelarating From A Stop
win4ever replied to win4ever's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Not all the time. I know which noise you are talking about. Yes, my car does that too and it's like a grinding noise when the car first reaches a speed of around 20kmh. The ticking noise I am talking about is different. It's a "tick" noise that happens just as the car starts moving from a standstill. From memories I think other cars has that sound too but may not be as loud. -
Hi guys, I am a happy and proud owner of a S2 v35 coupe in NZ. And I guess I am also one of those lucky ones in terms of keys for the car as mine came with 2 set of key and 1 valet key. The car also has the immobiliser sticker on the window and my understanding is the NZ compliance does not have any rules with regards to the standard of the immobiliser. I am keen to try out to ensure that the immobiliser is working or not. There is always a red LED light right next to the driver's side air condition vent that is blinking. I saw in this thread that to try to check if the immobiliser is working or not, one just need to take a copied key to try starting the engine with the original keys far away from the car because of the transponder chip in the original keys. I haven't really made a copy of my original key. But does the valet key has a transponder chip in it as well? Can i use the valet key to test? Advice on this is most appreciated! Cheers!

Yup! Will keep everyone updated on progress! Not too sure if a layer of clear coat will affect the range or not. Will ask the installer b4 deciding.

Ic... yeah, my previous Toyota has a stock one too which has only 2 sensors. Not the best I would say... it still does its job when reversing into a parking but just need 2 be extra careful if i m turning in coz the side is not too well covered. I'll be getting at least 4 sensors. It's just another $25 for 2 extra ones at the front, so I might just add tat. Just a little concern in terms of the look of the sensors at the front. Just called the guy, as he said he has over 40 colours available, he is keen to see the car to check if he has the colour b4 i decide on the need to spray the sensors. Hopefully he has one set tat matches to save me the trouble. Anyway, if u guys are keen on this, I'll update you all once i have it installed to see how things go! Based on past experience, the sensor performs worst during winters bcoz of the rain n moisture in the air. On summer, it's usually sweet as!
-
I was initially thinking of a camera as well as I was hoping I can hook it to the car's tv screen. But someone in this forum was saying those camera is really unreliable and some can go dead after a few times reversing (because it will get on and off quickly everytime u move the gear from P to D. I had a set of sensors in my previous car which I got fr trademe. They are generally pretty good except during really cold n wet days when they will just not work because of the water molecules in the air I guess which affects the sensors. But apart from this, my previous set which I got for around $100 worked really well! SO was thinking of getting something similar but instead of 4 sensors for the back, i m keen 2 add 2 more at the front. Did ur sensors came with the car or u installed it yourself?
-
Yeah... all good mate! Now just looking fwd to getting some reverse sensors in. It's really quite hard to do a side parking now as it's virtually near impossible to see what's at the back with the coupe's big bumper at the back.... Also, got my insurance all sorted with AMI. I have to say, I am pretty surprise by the cost of the insurance which is definitely much lower than what I expect esp after seeing how the Aussies got charged over there!
-
Hmmm... well, I basically gave the scratch area a good clean ensuring no grease or wax on it. Then used a hair dryer to dry it completely to avoid any moisture. Then applied 4 layers of paint on to it with approx 10 mins interval between each layer to allow the previous layer to dry. The result is pretty ok. It's not as smooth as I want considering I am using a brush instead of a spray. But as the mark is really pretty hard to spot, it really didn't concern me as long as I have got the rust sorted. So overall, I would say I am pretty happy with the results.
-
Yeah... i would think repainting it will be a cheaper option. It's a factory Nissan colour, so it should be pretty easy getting the colour code and have the bonnet repainted instead.
-
Yeah, I agree that a spray will do a much smoother and nicer job. Unfortunately (or rather fortunately), the scratch I have is just probably a 2mm diameter scratch right at the tip of the bonnet closest to the windscreen which has started to rust. So it's basically almost impossible to spray without taking the bonnet out as the spray will get onto the windscreen. Tat's why I've used a brush to just apply a few layers of paint onto the car. I guess i'll have to do the same for the clear coat as well.... Anyway, the scratch is really barely visible and my aim was also to prevent any spread of delamination. The sensors will be a different story though. If I need to spray, I'll probably make sure I do a good job on them! The seller was saying he got the color of my car for the sensor, so hopefully it's the case and tat'll save me some work.
-
Yeah X, we'll be keen to see more photos of the car with the new set of mags on!
-
Good idea Ray! Alright, it's going to be my mini project for this weekend then (apart from getting a reverse sensor installed) =) The guy in CarColors asked me to get a can of clear coat too but it was a really big can and he said as the scratch is at such a hidden area, he said it doesn't really matter but he did suggest if I were to spray the sensors, I'll need the clear coat. Anyway, do you just spray the clear coat on or can I again use a brush to just apply a layer on the scratch? Thanks in advance for the help!
