  1. Too right Terry. What other industry has moved to such widespead use of private detectives for claim interviews. Hardly a show of confidence/competence in their own staff.
  2. Scan tool should show the fault. No2 son had a very similar problem with his Aristo, handbrake warning light, TPS light , cruise cut off etc. Turned out to be a faulty fluid level sender on the brake master cylinder. Disconnected the plug and fault cured. Luckily he had a complete spare master cylinder assembly and all fixed.
  3. Forget about the lag time, let the tuner do them properly. You can only access the 14V lag time on the hand commander, the tuner will do all the voltages via Datalogit.
  4. The flood story has been the standard excuse here in Qld for massive home insurance premium increases too. There's no doubt they check the postcode and then apply a % factor. Suncorp denied such activity yet I live in Gympie's postcode, and it's well known for the Mary to wet some shops in town. But it would need the ice caps to melt before my house flooded. Same for my sister who lives on the top of a mountain in Rocky, yet her premiums went through the roof. I did have a win when I confronted Suncorp however, told them to review the increase or all my business was walking. Had a return email on Sunday night showing an extremely modest increase.
  5. Suggest you grab someone who knows how to adjust the push rod on the master cylinder. No way is it right if you're down to the last threads ???????? Have you any free travel at all? Without free travel the master cylinder will never prime correctly. Did anyone check the booster unit.
  6. Maroon R33 with busted wing and a dirty yellow roof parked Southbound on the highway just down from the Big Pineapple exit, around 10am today. Tidy grey R32 GTS heading North on the highway near Eumundi exit tonight.
  7. Yes indeed, so much re-hashed misinformation in this thread. You're not comparing apples to apples, no mention of material strength, face width and so on. But IF you were comparing equal materials, face width etc, the helical eats a spur gear. But don't take my word for it, do some research. Look at the gearing on draglines, sugar mills, ship reduction gearboxes in fact anything with upwards of 1,000,000 ft lbs torque. It's always helical or chevron (double helical) You'll only see spur gearing on stuff like rotary kilns and the like where the gears daily eat rocks, have no lubrication and must be CHEAP to replace. Spur gears are simpler to cut so tooling costs are down. Thus the manufacturer can offer large choices of ratios.
  8. Those of us who drive completely stock 32 GTR's (not 33 or 34) would know the hydraulic HICAS valve bank makes changing the oil filter a mission. Filter can't be seen from above or below. It also requires an AFM and boost pipework to be removed just to check an air filter. I'll always put ease of maintenance ahead of modifications. Obviously the FIRST thing any new owner should do is get the workshop manual and start reading.
  9. Regardless of your future plans for the car and If it is dead stock try these two and see how you get on. Do a hot oil filter change. Do an air filter element change. Reckon then your first items would be a filter relocation kit and pods.
  10. Agree totally re-the Castrol oil, waste of $$$. I'd even forget the Redline if it's also got 4th gear problems. (108,000K's????) Save those $$$ for the rebuild and just take it easier with the gear changes in the meantime.
  11. I can't imagine the plate "swap" will be a simple process either. Surely the car will require re-inspection, VIN, engine number etc verification. Then the label on the glass and the actual paperwork, which plate do they show? Sounds like half a day in lost wages. One wonders if there's hundreds more similar cases, once the plate pile gets out of sequence ??????????
  12. Thanks for the confirmation Jez. Saved me digging out manuals, and seems I'm not going senile just yet.
  13. Dark blue 33, wing, black wheels, on side of the road Southbound at Matilda Curra. Conked out ????
  14. Haven't smoked for over 30 years but now I'll go crazy until I can remember what bloody car it was that uses the cat light for check engine. Was sure it was the 32.
  15. 32's check engine light doubles up as the cat over temp warning light. Might pay to look under the passenger seat for loose wiring.
  16. Check the ECCS relay hasn't fried. (One of those 2-relays beside the ECU)
  17. Passenger in a Richer's tray truck thought he recognised me, got a huge wave on Thursday near the duck ponds. Lots of grey 32's around but no-one knows me. Keep seeing a red 34/4-door everywhere lately. Gympie = Nissan town.
  18. Page 23 from the workshop manual has the various engine outputs, 215Ps is 158kw. The kerb weight will be difficult as these cars had options, HICAS, sunroof to name a few. I've seen wildy different weights quoted from Wikipedia etc. Might be easiest to put it on the scales and tender the weighbridge docket.
  19. Saw some numbers from the trawler guys, old price $25/kg, new price $375/kg. Now the cold store industry is also starting to make noises, expect massive price increases. I did like the response from the carbon tax task force, "Live with it."
  20. Yes your red coloured hose goes all the way over to the boost solenoid then back to the wastegates. But on the way there's a tee (I marked it blue) and that's your boost source.
  21. Don't fart about with manufacturer's rolling diameter tyre info, get the tape out and measure the circumference of every tyre. Match them up side for side and put your largest circumference pair on the rear. ATTESA can allow for some tyre wear. As it's a 32 your transfer clutch pack isn't preloaded like later models.
  22. The highlights are usually on SBS a month or two later, but to be there would be the best. Where else would you see all of the last remaining airworthy Spitfires in the world do a fly past, and those cars, bikes............
  23. Think your aircon mate is in for a shock. Gas price is going up a lot more than double. Check Hychill site for the lube info etc. There's mega dollars at stake world wide, and the mis-infomation spread by existing gas manufacturers is amazing. Funny how the Du Pont name keeps cropping up.
  24. Google Hychill for an alternative if you're in a large city. Not a legality problem it's just the industry has had so many "new" wonder gases over the years they're reluctant to try another. I approached Hychill for a list of their nearest agents and came up with Burstons??????
